Is it possible to take Turk when the AI is playing Japanese? With infinite supplies, bounitful airplanes, regiments and ships in port, it seems futile to try taking Turk with all the units available to the Allies - I think as late as Aug 43. Sure need some advice in this area. Thanks guys!

I suppose you mean Truck :)

If you can isolate Japanese outposts, you can stop them withdrawing men and aircraft back to Truck.

If Truk is not occupied it will fall easily.

Ok, ok, guys. I meant TRUK. Just made me remember McDonald is spelled without an 'a'. But seriously, I have destroyed some 8 regiments from Gili Gili to Kavieng via Rabaul by Jun 43 and there are still some 4 regiments sitting in Truk with a host of HQs and other units. I suppose I can conclude from these discussions so far that it is not possible to win Truk at all.:(

It can be taken, but it will take pretty much everything you own to do so. Remember the minefields when you go in :D

I am in late 43. All of the Jap. bases are gone except Truk. Now, the AI has mastered about 200,000 men in Truk including 8-10 AAA unit, several CD, and the remain of its airfleet (30+ squadrons). The air defence is neglegible since F6F and F4U rule the sky. But the AAA are hitting my Bombers hard. On any mission I would lose about 40 Heavies due to AAA. So, there is no way to surpress the AF and Port. Bombardment helps a little bit but not very effective. Guess, I will just leave it alone, except letting my fighter-only carriers (loaded only with Fighters and 2 squadron of AWS TBF) based outside Truk to shot down as many airplanes as possible. Jap. fighter, bombers come out everyday, since I have put 1 AO in the same field like my Carriers...Truk wil not fall...:(

Why do you think the Allies bypassed it in real life? :)

Oh, with that level, you'll never take it. You would have to land 500,000 troops just to have a shot at it.

The problem is that the AI has nowhere to put the troops so they just keep coming into Truk and stockpiling.

Yep, my attempt failed.:( Land some forty regiments but then I found I am facing 11 Japanese regiments:mad: After one week of fighting, only 5,000 of my troops are fighting- the rest were just too tired. Anyway, I won the war but lost the battle - like they say : you win some and you lose some:)

Minefields are very easy to sweep, just have 2-3 TF with each max 2 DMS and let them sweep with retired on, and let a your CV TF wait at the spot where the DMS will retire to and you wont loose them and they can refuel and go back turn after turn. It takes then about 3 - 5 turns to sweep there mines but keep in mind you also mind them so its hard to tell, depends on the ammount of mines. MSW are good to but they are really low on ammo for these missions, so keep your DMS for this job they can do large ranges and are a lot faster to get out to. Also the weather will also do an effect, if stormy they wont be as good as in clear weather. So keep this in mind as well, after that bombard and run bombers before you land on this island. And dont forget to have supplies for these troops, cause it will take a while to get them down to where you can capture this.
