Well its a German bunker, the writing is in German and one of the lines is from a German "drinking" song - Wer niemals einen rausch gehabt [seems to have a bit missing] der ist kein braver mann - "He who has never been drunk is not a worthy man"!

So my guess is its the Germans

Edit: Oh and Freuet euch des Lebens apparently is a waltz by Johann Strauss. Yeah - its ze Germans alright

No, Footslogger, you are not. Meine Deutsch ist sehr klein but what it looks like is being said does not involve drinking, rather "The men who never smoke are not the bravest men."

Maybe that was an early Marlboro ad.

How is it that you've never been drunk, Footslogger? Is it because when a mob of forumites go to Washington DC they can't track you down or when they go to the state of Washington they know not where to begin looking for you?

Well that depends if you agree with the sentiment expressed in the song (assuming of course that the words of the song are not meant to be ironic). Either way, I would suggest its not something you need to take too seriously....

Yes your Deutsch does appear sehr klein - although perhaps it is of quite a high standard for a gorn, who I understand are rubbish multilinguists (well if you can't even pronounce basic words like preposterous because of your mouth shape, how are you going to deal with Rindfleischetikettierungsueberwachungsau)?

Well I have never had liquor or beer. No alcohol, except for some wine for communion. My grandfather and grandmother in Italy must be turning in their graves. I told one college girl about me never getting drunk. The first thing she said was, "Your Boring!"

It is from an Austrian song (18th Century) and it is (btw.) not about drinking beer, but about drinking too much wine and about what happens after you have drunk too much wine (the whole song is quite funny). The bunker crew probably hailed from Austria, considering (additionally) the citation from the waltz from Johann Strauss and the style of the artwork on the wall, which doesn't look like Nazi artwork but like wall paintings similar to those that can still be found in many Austrian and Bavarian inns and taverns.

Thanks for the additional insight. I assumed it was beer due to the fact that the song can be found on Steins (see previous link). Maybe wine is drunk by the Steinload in certain parts of the world

I don't know about "not a real man"; however, I personally operate on a two part philosophy:

1. Never trust a person with no vices
2. Never trust a person who has never been intoxicated (on anything)

Because these are the people who are going to turn you in!
