Attempting my get my second PBEM up and running sometime this week. I will be playing vs Lam0ttePicquet whom has played at least one PBEM game as Japan.

AS I did last time I will take any help I can get. We should be getting under way in the next week or so as he is working on the last phases of his evil plan for world domination.
Before we get stated I would like to thank Lam0ttePicquet and all of the forum players whom comment and way in to make this game what it is.

House Rules
----------------

Japanese Specific

1. No hunting of the US CV’s for the first 2 turns. If KB stumbles on them, then so be it, but IJ will not deliberately hunt them.
2. Kwangtung command units cannot leave Korea/Manchukuo unless full PP’s are paid.
3. Royal Thai Army cannot leave Thailand
4. Japanese may not sail past Singapore to invade the west coast of Malaya while Singapore is British controlled.
5. Only Glen floatplanes on submarines (or Serians if subs arrived so equipped, ic I400’s).

Allied Specific
----------------

1. 1st turn
a. Allies can only move already formed TF’s, except off map bases.
b. Allies can change aircraft orders, but not move them. Only exceptions are AVG and Soviet forces.
c. Chinese can do anything (not Hong Kong)
2. No allied non-Chinese LCU may enter China until 1944 and then only USA ENG and HQ.
a. Exceptions: Provided that the Allies control Burma, Thailand, Indo-China, and Luzon, the Allied non-Chinese LCU’s may then use Chinese bases provided that they are not operating with Chinese LCU’s present in the hex and the date is after 1 Jan 1945. If China is ever completely conquered, or Chungking is the only Chinese base controlled by the Allies, or the Chinese are down to only 2 cities, then these restrictions do not apply.
3. No Corsairs allowed on US CV’s until 1/44 except for air transport purposes.
4. HMS Implacable’s fighters must remain Seafires or Hellcats, as Corsairs were too big for it.

Both Sides
----------

1. No Naval Attack by Allied land based 2E bombers under 1000’ until 6/42
2. 4E bombers: no rules, but note that IJ player is skeptical and reserves the right to open a discussion for a house rule on these if it seems the game is not accurately portraying them at low altitudes.
3. Landings only on base or dot hexes.
4. Submarines may not make naval landing on any opposed hex.
5. City Attack strategic bombing is not permitted until 7/1/42.
6. No strategic bombing in or out of China unless or until US or British troops are there as outlined and allowed above.
7. Gentlemen’s agreement not to bomb Chinese airfields for the sole purpose of destroying supply. This is a somewhat loose arrangement since airfields would be considered valid targets if the hex has opposing troops, or if intel detects large numbers of aircraft based there. THIS IS ONLY IN CHINA.
8. Only the IJ Kwantung Army Command units must pay full PP price to change commands. All other command changes can be worked as the player sees fit paying PP to cross national boundaries.
9. House Rules can be renegotiated at any time if either player feels they are not effective, or circumstances arise that warrant changing, adding or deleting HR’s.
10. If a real commander wouldn’t do it, then don’t do it. If you thing what you are about to do is gamey, ask yourself if a real commander would do it and let that guide your play.

Did you ask your opponent if he has a new computer and does back-ups?

Good luck!
There are quite a few changes in the base game and mods so patch up to the latest official release at minimum, or all the way to the latest Beta.

I think we are good as we are up to the current patch and the current version of the beta --- 3/04/2016: [1125.10].

I have been working on an AI game for a bit and have almost reached March of '42 getting myself back up to speed with the game and the changes to DBB 28-C version. Lots of changes to the Aus and NZ forces --- no more divisions.

I will post some general thoughts tonight when I get back from taking the boys out to the aquarium tonight.

Last time the operational names were from 80’s breakfast cereals so I will need a new theme any ideas?

No, but I figured he would not catch the reference to my last game if I started asking those questions. He may also not have caught on to all of the humor that comes in my e-mails and/or AAR.

There was no need to risk offending my new opponent until I catch the KB in a night action with the Slow US BB under My Main Man Admiral “Ching" Lee…

I will be ripping the basic plan for defense from Sardaukar's Plan as where I will fight to hold and where I will do a limited Sir Robin.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=2564541&mpage=1&key=Newbies

On this map, there are outer limits of maximum theoretical allowed Japanese expansion in BLUE. On your side of that line are areas that you SHOULD DEFEND AND KEEP. You should of course fight for bases outside these absolute limits, but not to death. Of course, some bases like Efate and Luganville in South Pacific may be difficult to reinforce in early game and may fall to Japanese even when inside the BLUE limit.

In RED are places you should start reinforcing IMMEDIATELY or as soon as you have troops available. You will have quite limited troops available in Dec 41, so you need to prioritize.

In GREEN are your major Troop, Supply and Fuel Transportation routes. It's not coincidence that they are close to BLUE and RED areas, you need to keep your supply routes open.

Ok, here goes.

Good luck, first of all.

Second of all, no plan survives contact with the enemy.

China will be very tough. You might want to try a Mr. Kane defense .... i.e. setting up a huge bomber/transport air lift into China.

2nd: You can't hold Ceylon from a JFB that wants it.

3rd: You can fight for Burma depending upon what Japan's priorities are. In fact, I think you should challenge Japan at every step of the way and make them earn their early conquest....as long as you keep you carriers.

Bend like a willow in a wind...where Japan is strong bend...but where Japan is weak challenge. Probe him.

Send the Boise east, deep behind the lines and then patrol and head for the Aluetians....pack up a volunteer xak with 5000 supply and make for Wenchow....send another to Luzon...use your poor subs for supply transport to Manila...think about a raid on Hokkaido...or dare I say it a landing at Ustonomiya.

You should be thinking -- no free lunch for the Japanese.

Just my thoughts...

General Strategic Overview
----------------
Given I have no idea what my opponent intends to do or what his overall plan of attack willbe, until I can determine his overall all focus, China, India, Australia, hold the historic perimeter I am simply going to hold the areas as outlined above and try to preserve my CV’s as a force in being. Overall I am going to try to build for a massive Oct of ’43 offensive in Burma but this may or may not be what occurs.

China
----------------
Hold the until relieved or dead. Use max stacking limits in bad terrain to hold as much of the industry and supplies for a long as possible. Air Transport as much supply to China as possible. This is one area vs a real human I feel will be an issue as I expect to lose most if not all of China simply due to the fact I have no idea how to defend vs a concentrated offensive human player.

India
----------------
Will send all Australian brigades India, in the current DBB this cannot be reformed into divisions. Australian units will hold Madras and Bombay and act as a central reserve. One Indian Brigade at sea will go to Ceylon to delay/hold this area. One Indian Brigade at sea will go to Port Blair to delay/hold this area. All other units will rest, train and hold the India/Burma border after detachments to hold the coast.

Australia
----------------
Will hold the US division that arrives here to offset the two divisions left in India. Major effort to hold all Perth and the entire Western Coast. The UK 18th Division will land at Perth, will withdraw from this area rather than risk being cut off if needed. Port Moresby and Horn Island will be left to hold with minimal (if any) reinforcements.

Singapore
----------------
No new units will be committed, but single ship supply convoys will try and slip though at the start for supply until losses are too high. All units will fall back and recombine at Singapore as fast as possible.

DEI
----------------
As many units as possible fall back to one or two points and hold for as long as possible. Need to look at a more details plan in this area.

Burma
----------------
Units that can recombine fall back to Rangoon to dig in and hold. Hold the Air over Rangoon as long as possible for single ship convoys and bring supply in and fuel out. Hold the road open to China as long as possible and then fall back to the India/Burma border and then hold here at all costs unless he lands behind the lines in India.

Christmas Island
----------------
This will become my middle base to route all convoys around as the convoy system gets rolling. It will also become a supply point to fuel the advance. It will feed Pago Pago and Suva as my forward bases.

CV’s
----------------
Will be split into single ship task Forces and grouped together as follows: (1) All Task Forces will hang out near Christmas Island under massive air cover to hit free targets as they appear.

Submarines
----------------
Will harass the DEI area and try to slow down the offensive in this area as much as possible. Will to listen as to where the sub’s should focus after I lose the DEI and PI.

Philippines
----------------
I have decided to fall back to Bataan. There will be a defense at Clark Field in x3 terrain with at my max stacking, putting the left over units in Bataan and Manilla. The plan will be to fight and Clark and Fall back to Bataan, also by time in Manilla to grab as much supply as possible but not if it endangers the main defense. Will also look as using xAKL's to send some supply to the area.

I expect to lose China, I did not in my last PBEM game but that was far more luck then any skill on my part. His Focus was elsewhere. My goal is simply to buy time and to save some LCU's and ACU's that can be bought out with PP.....

2nd: You can't hold Ceylon from a JFB that wants it.

Agree, I just want to defend it enough he has to bring force to bear to take it and expend time.

That is the plan, unless he is pressing to bypass me I intend to fight in Burma. My goal everywhere is an aggressive defense on land. At See the same is true unless the KB is present or location unknown.

I also expect to lost part of Australia or India this time around but its all up to where the Japs what to go at this point.

Question for Lowpe and anyone. Is it better to start the airlift with my transports and pilots from December 8th on or to train the pilots to 70 air transport to reduce operational losses?

Subscribed! I have just started a DDBB-C game against an old friend and, being the Japanese Fanboy that I am, I have no idea what I am doing. I probably won't comment much, but I am certain I will learn tons. Good luck!

You don't have the infrastructure to do a lot right away, don't overcrowd your airfields or your aviation support, but I would do both...start right away with a good rest percentage and work on training pilots and building runways.

If you keep Ledo you can really be flying in the supplies by late 42.

I think bombers don't suffer nearly as badly as does the skytrain from op losses.

But you will have to measure it and do what works for you. Watch plane fatigue, pilot fatigue etc.

KB and Subs at Pearl

Overall this is a good thing, the KB is one hex east of their AO fleet (just off the image here). The large number of submarines are providing good training for the DD that are now on ASW work.

Would someone have a listing of the Divisions Japan has unrestricted in Sen 28? And then a listing of Division that can be released/formed so I can start tracking where they are on the board.

Quick Note on Strategy vs Tactics

Most of what you will see in the AAR here will be the review of tactics that support the over reaching strategic goal - of running Japan's economy into the ground. The strategic goal of all the tactical moves are to burn fuel, supply and force the commitment of air units to prevent pilot training.

Air War
Force Japan to fight on three fronts as we move into 1943. Burma, Southwest Pacific and North/Central. As Japan can out build the Allies - we need to ensure that we bring all of the force pools to bear for depth. Also Pilot training will be maxes so all fighters by mid-1942 are 70 air, 70 def 60 xp. All Bombers are 70 Nav or Gnd and 60 xp. Make him build more early and mid war planes then he wants to slow down the engine bonus and burn HI/Supply.

Sub War
Force him to use his convey escorts to burn fuel. Force him to use some of his air force for ASW and not pilot training.

At Sea
As we did this turn if we can locate the KB and mini-KB strike aggressively and then run fast.

Forts 0(10%) all damage now repaired so fort building should begin. Supplies ~62K all forces falling back to this hex. Kota Bharu has just fallen no other landings at this time.

Philippines
Forts 0(10%) at Clark and Manila - 2(8%) at Bataan. Bataan is held by one ENG LCU and one CD LCU at this time building forts. Clark is held by 24k/40k troops with more in route. Manila is held by 20K of troops. The goal is two move LCU's from Manila to Clark and from Clark to Bataan (rotate) as long as possible. If we are lucky we can hold for a little longer in x3 at Clark and then fall back to our forts at Bataan. Not sure why he has not smashed the port/airfield at Bataan but not going to complain either.

The real question I am trying to determine is what objective is he going after that would require the Mini-KB and KB? Fiji (maybe), Pago Pago (maybe), Pearl (unlikely) the NoPAC area (why would be near Johnston Island then)?

The Line Islands similar to what happened in my last game?
