So I used to play this when I bought it in 2014. I had uninstalled it for awhile. I recently downloaded the new beta and can not get the game running. Nothing has changed on my computer for hardware. Anti-virus is not on.

I have tried running as administrator, installing as an administrator, and without admin. The autoplay works, I hit "Play Game" and nothing happens. Trying to run the .exe gives me no results either. Nothing happens at all. No error messages and no start up of any kind.

The tutorial videos will not open, but the manual will. I never used to have this problem with the original version. I am at a loss how to get this running.

I have downloaded it several times and installed/uninstalled it to try and get it working numerous time to no avail. I have installed it in just a Matrix games folder on the C: drive, in Program files, and Program x86 and still the same results every time. Anybody have any ideas?

I am running a Windows Vista 64 Home premium edition OS. There is enough memory on the C: drive.

There was a change in the development environment in the intervening period which affected the EXE size and built-in some of the files that used to be separate, and there was a change in the auto run file.

Delete the last EXE and try using Update to get you to the most recent public release and then re-download (or re-unzip) the beta, and replace the EXE.

Try asking Customer Service.

My best guess is that when you uninstalled the game that might have removed some of the security files. Customer Service should be able to help you straighten that out [if that is the problem].

The "update" button on the auto run screen doesn't work. Gives me an error saying that the path is missing or typed incorrectly.

I'll submit a ticket with customer service.

Could it be that the antivirus program interferes and removes the exe?

Happened to others and happened to me with another Matrix program. And it can happen even though it has worked before with the same antivirus.

Indeed on the Anti-Virus. Most of them have a mechanism where you can declare certain executables even whole directories exempt from scanning and quarantine.

I had my anti-virus turned off during download and installation. I do not believe that to be the problem.

One thing I did find interesting is I checked the anti-virus to make sure an exception was checked for WiF just incase and WiF wasn't even listed to check. So it seemed to me like the .exe is not installing at all.

If you reinstall from the disk and then update as far as you can go. and then replace the EXE with the current beta, that may work.

I don't have a physical copy of the game, only digital.

Go to the members club: http://www.matrixgames.com/members/ and log in.

Scroll towards the bottom of the games list and you should get to World in Flames and to the right it should say you are registered. So click on that link.

Near the top of the next page you see, click on the Downloads link. You can then download the installation file for Version 2.1.4, which is the latest public release. After you unzip it and install it, you can then overwrite the EXE with the latest hot patch. But it might be a good idea to wait for the next beta release as there are some issues with the current beta.

This whole process is not much different than installing a full beta version (but massively different than installing just the current hot patch), so I'm not sure you'll have any greater luck with this.

A new download link was provided to me. I did a fresh download and install from that link and all is fine now. I have the current beta with the hot fix working. Thank you to all for your help and suggestions.
