AV is just a little over 210. Take three standard SNLF units (60 each) and join them together. A small HQ detachment is added and you have an SNLF Assault brigade. They work pretty well but are very brittle.

As long as Dan doesn't think about LRCAP, I can fly in about 25-35 AV a day from Ponape. Will go over the 6,000 capacity but since I am not attacking, that shouldn't be too big a deal.

Status: offline 		We've had a bit of a sync bug the last two turns so I sent Dan my newest version of RA so we are both on the same page. Don't know what the problem is since all my Scenario File work for Treaty--RA--BTS is on a different install. ANYWAY--hopefully this will fix the issue.

Newest turn featured--NOTHING! I got the last of the Air Flotilla flown out and am now bringing in the 56th ID with 54 Tina and 36 Topsy.

Had an I-Boat sink an LST near Mili. NICE!

Notes:
1. CVE's are in striking range.
2. Tanaka moves into a potential strike range as well. My 4 Kongos have an escort of 9 DDs and are primed and ready for action. Will move him to Eniwetok and see what develops...

I find that the sync bug happens most of the time but that the allied player doesn't usually notice because it can be someything really small. It's just the replay that is different, not the end state, so I always send the Japanese combat report as that's what really happened regardless of what the Allies see.

It is a cloudy day as Vc-Adm Tanaka brings his powerful TF down the west side of the Marshalls. As soon as the sun rises, there begin to be relays of Japanese fighter planes over the TF. This veteran TF of sooooo many missions to Sabang and other locations knows that they are headed into dangerous waters.

Intelligence had placed the American carrier TF as having left the area. A known CVE TF is still in the vacinity so having nearly 70 fighters overhead SHOULD be enough. Besides that, all four of these venerable warships have just been updated with the new 100MM AA guns while at Singapore.

What is not expected this day is for a Recon Jake to pick-up what APPEARS to be a massive portion of the American Carrier Force. He anxiously stares at the CAP umbrella and wonders 'will it be enough?'

At 9:30am the first wave of enemy aircraft comes in. There are to be seven waves of attacks in all for this wild day!

Summary:
Morning Action
0930 66 Jap Fighters vs. 7 P-38 and 12 SBD--Several of the P-38 are shot down and only two SBD. Ten attack with three being shot down to AA fire. Result: No Hits.

0955 58 Fighters vs. 18 Avengers--The intrepid squadron is wiped out.

1024 47 Fighters vs. 110 F6F, 25 F4F, 36 SBD, and 18 Avengers--YIKES! CAP does pretty well versus the massed fighters shooting down 4 Hellkitties and 4 Wildkitties but the entire strike force gets through. Five more SBD fall to AA fire. In a furious 10 minutes, all four BC are hit with two of them taking Torpedo hits. Result:

Kirishima 2 Bombs
Kongo 2 B and 2 TT
Haruna 2 Bombs
Hiei 6 B and 1 TT

End of Morning. DEEP CLEANSING BREATH!

Afternoon
1248 50 Fighters vs. 12 Avengers--All destroyed.

1318 36 Fighters vs. 6 Avengers-Same result.

1450 32 Fighters vs. 7 Corsairs and 12 SBD--Most of the Corsairs are shot down and 4 SBD. Eight come through. Two are swatted out of the sky by AA and one manages to plant a further bomb hit on Kongo.

1631 20 Fighters vs. 17 Beauforts (or fighters?)--All but two are destroyed and the remaining pair miss with their Torps.


THANKFULLY no strikes came from the massed American CVs in the afternoon. Bad weather? Hmmm...

Tanaka is a HIGHLY aggressive Admiral and he wants to smack the enemy HARD with this two lightly damaged battlecruisers, He briefly ponders steering a direct course for the Allied TFs but then decides against it. A transmission from Combined Fleet to withdraw towards a CAP trap settles the matter.

Kongo and Hiei with 4 DDs retire towards the 'safety' of Eniwetok where 125 more Fighters land to provide much stouter CAP for the morrow. The CVE TF moves NW away from the action but will also still provide LRCAP support.

Kirishima and Haruna with 4 DDs retire towards Ponape where they will be protected by Fighters flying from Kusaie and Ponape.


Goodness...

1. He must have hidden his CVs inside Mili. Recon showed nearly 100 ships disbanded in the LIMITED harbor but I thought they were AKs/LSTs/etc...
2. My Fighters had an excellent day. Even fighting that massed strike with the Hellkittens they held their own. Encouraging.
3. The new AA Guns managed ten SBDs shot down. That isn't bad at all.

We are now pulling out away from the Marshalls. I hoped for this day to pass without heavy aerial action so I could get into his bases but that was a pipe dream. Lesson learned.

If he pursues towards Eniwetok, there will be a CAP of 150+ fighters over my damaged BCs next turn. Additionally, Kido Butai departed Saipan yesterday and MIGHT get involved with this the day after tomorrow...

When a CV clash occurs in this game - the winner might very well be the side that builds the better AA task forces...or manages to deplete the other sides AA ammunition first.

Status: offline 		NO. I am talking about bringing the kitchen sink and see if I can draw him AWAY from his LBA.

He has a BIG conglomeration of STF and CTF just SE of Kwajalein and I would love to draw them out for a fight. Reality is he won't but one never knows. If nothing else, I can work so massive a CAP Trap on the turn after this one as to crush his CV striking strength.

Must extricate my pair of BC so they can live to fight another day. If he chooses to go after them then his air will pay dearly for it.

Should also note that every day occupied is a day away from the situation at Kwajalein.

If I was to guess, the CV TFs came out to cover a lift for adding weight to the Kwajalein attack or going after Roi Namur as well...

My subs are doing a fine job of dying presently. Just lost an Ro- last turn and that makes 4 in 10 days. Am withdrawing my SS for a little bit and am searching for a different approach in that arena.

Currently have about 16 I-Boats upgrading presently getting radar. That should help some I hope. Does anyone really know what sort of difference an SS having radar makes?

Status: offline 		I do believe that we have our sync issues dealt with. Neither Dan not I did any changes but we suddenly developed issues. It seems my Beta went BACKWORDS to an older version. Quite strange. We are now both updated to April 3rd Beta so the issues should clear up pretty quickly.

It is ironic that we were just talking about I-Boats.

I-172 has been ordered to clear out of the Marshalls but stops at Kwajalein first to refuel. The near 20,000 fuel at the beleaguered base has been used by I-Boats nearly everyday since the invasion and we've managed to drop it down to 10,000. ANYWAY...shortly after refueling enemy ships are spotted approaching the base. The experienced crew takes her just far enough out to submerge and then they wait. Sure enough two very large brand spanking new American battlewagons begin their approach for a bombardment. Before they can open up the Captain lets fly a spread of 4 TTs at BB Washington. To immense cheers, not ONE, not TWO, but THREE TTs smash into big ship's side. BANZAI! She staggers ouot of line and does not participate in the attack.

Hoping to catch the damaged battleship, a strike is flown from Roi Namur to Ailinglaplap. This attack is the first of its kind in enarly 10 days and finds the Allies waiting. A big furball of 70 Geroge and Tojo fight a mixed bag of 60 Allied Fighters. The Japanese hold off most of the fighters so 28 of the original 38 Judy get through. These planes dive on three nice targets in the bay. Two APs and an AK are sent to bottom with multiple 500 Kg bomb hits.

No sign of the Washington. There are some unidentified ships disbanded in Ailinglaplap's harbor so a Port Strike is ordered for tomorrow afternoon. A Daitai of 48 George fly in to sweep the base prior to the Port Attack. We'll see what happens...


IJHQ has noticed a pattern in how the Americans withdraw their ships from the Marshalls and we have been waiting for an opportunity to pounce. Quietly eight I-Boats have gathered south of Johnston Atoll. Three American TFs are spotted leaving the Marshalls using the same hex row as normal. The Japanese wolf pack is ordered into the line and we shall see what harvest simply paying attention to my opponent's patterns yield...

Pretty much pays back for the day before, even. I think subs can be massed at this stage when you know the Death Star's location and still sneak some hits on the big boys/ladies. It'll be a war of attrition, and you'll lose a lot of them, but it could pay off if you take a BB or CV out for years or sink it. If you throw some Glens on night search it helps, and of course getting the Emilys to fly and get everything lit up during specific days (when you can stand the losses for the potential gains).

The WA looks to be hurting. It may have already gone under, but if not it can't be moving fast.

Allied ships start converting to the MK 9 DC during this time. These are amazingly accurate compared to any other DC with any other nation. Not going to be a good time for your subs from now on. Crappy Japanese radar will give you a little boost in DL for passing ships but won't compensate for all of his radar equipped patrol bombers and patrol ships. So you might get a few more attacks in but will have a good chance of getting sunk in return. Sorry to be the bearer of this bad news... But nice whack on the Washington.

Aleutians
Up north I have reinforced the small amount of warships deployed here with a pair of CAs and a modern CL. Total force is still small at 2 CA, 4 CL, and 7 DDs. We still seek to keep the enemy honest though.

The 9th finds the Japanese hunting off Adak. They find lots of fight. In order of fights, they run into 6 DDs, 5 PTs, 6 PTs, deliver a good bombardment of the base, and find 6 more DDs. The TF does rather well damaging 3 DDs in the first fight, sinking 2 PTs in the second, 2 more PTs in the 3rd, and then beating up 4 of 6 in the last wave of DDs. The USS Renshaw is sunk.

As the ships withdraw, they are jumped by 13 P-38 and 16 B-25. The CAP of 60 Fighters absolutely chews up this attack. NICE!

One Japanese DD is badly hit but it makes it back to Amchitka and disbands.

Marshalls
Ailinglaplap
A sweep by 40 Georges encounters 30 Allied Fighters and the Japanese shot down 10 for the loss of 6. Not bad.

Kwajalein
A group of 12 Barges carrying 800 men of the 56th ID is wiped out by 4 US DDs. Drat!

In da babes the George is substantially faster. Really outclasses the Hellcat until the 1944 versions come on line.

The Aleutians

There has been lots of thrust--parry and parry--thrust between Dan and I up in the Great White North. Decide to change tactics and send a STF along the northern side of the islands as far as Umnak hunting convoys. The STF is quite stout with 2 CA, 2 modern CLs, 1 old CL, and 2 DDs. They get over 150 fighters assigned as LRCAP.

The sweep yields a plumb target of 3 LST and an AM. The Japanese gobble down this pleasant dessert and then encounter a STF of CL Honolulu and 4 DDs. A spirited fight then ensues with Honolulu putting on one heck of a gunnery display. The Japanese take damage to a CA, both modern CLs, and a DD. Nobody is in sinking condition. The Americans see a DD crippled another in bad shape and Honolulu takes 6 hits. Fairly poor result but we got the LSTs and that is NICE!

Several strikes come in at the TF but 136 Fighters smack down the attacks of 6 P-38 and 9 B-25, 6 B-25, and 9 B-25. A whole lot of those planes never return to base.

ORDERS:
Split the TF with the damaged ships moving NNW away from enemy subs and then heading for Paramushiro Jima. Dan is going to think I am done and withdrawing so I decide to make a calculated choice to send the remaining CA, CL, and 2 DDs on the same sweep again. Two convoys are spotted by recon so there might be a very good chance of another intercept.

The American STF is out it it for the moment so we might be able to score another quick little victory.

I am about to do something really CRAZY. Consider that John 3rd is going on record as ordering something CRAZY (even for me) this coming turn and you might have an idea how crazy we are talking about. This is shameless tease but all I'll say is that it involves every CV capable of 30+ Knots speed...
