If necessary and still interesting I plan to play this game past turn 36 (July/August 1945) in order to see the allies finish off the axis. However, for scoring the game I will evaluate the number of victory points held minus the bids made by faction at the end of turn 36.

I have five factions which are: (1) Euro-Axis (Germany & Italy), (2) Japan, (3) Western Allies (CW, France & USA), (4) China and (5) USSR/ChiComm. Faction "bids" are the historical number of victory points held at war's end, which were:

Euro-axis, 0 (bid)
Japan, 9 (bid)
China, 1 (bid)
USSR/ChiComm, 15 bid
Western Allies, 42 (bid).

The total victory points currently held by each faction is:

Euro-axis, 24 (total VPs)
Japan, 10 (total VPs)
China, 1 (total VPs)
USSR/ChiComm, 5 (total VPs)
Western Allies, 26 (total VPs).

This means that the current rank and score for each faction is:

(1) Euro-axis, +24
(2) Japan, +1
(3) China, 0
(4) USSR/ChiComm, -10
(5) Western Allies, -16.

So if this game were to end now then Germany/Italy would be the prohibited winner followed by Japan in a distance second place. So the Euro-Axis could be the big winner but still wind up losing the war. Or they could lose both the game and war.

The only change from last turn was that the CW reduced the number of BPs being given to the USSR from 2 to 1. The reason is that with the likely icing of Archangel this turn, and the cutting of rail to Murmansk by the Germans, then only 1 BP at most will count. Any other BPs sent will be lost.

And the all important roll for initiative sees the allies winning it on the first roll. The axis were prevented from requesting a re-roll because of the +1 modified held by the allies.

No attempted combat by the RN and no chance for the Germans to attempt a combat since the RN didn't add any units to the North Atlantic.

The US needed to land in order to fill significant gaps in their front lines with the Germans in the mountains of Austria and the Yugoslavia. Otherwise, some US units were in danger of being cutoff.

With the weather, the US wasn't able to get any remotely decent odds for a land combat. So no attacks by the USA in this theater this impulse.

No combat attempted by the RN in the Arabian Sea and since the RN didn't move any additional units to the area no combat attempt possible for the Japanese.

However, the IJN could and did try to initiate combat but failed. The CW flew in two air units to the 0-box to bolster defense of their loaded transport and CPs operating there. In the end this was unnecessary only because the IJN I-boat failed to find the transport and convoys. But, no way was the CW putting a loaded transport at risk was some ASW protection.

Guided by the RAF and an RN heavy cruiser, the USN carrier strike force operating in the South China Sea is able to find and surprise the IJN forces operating there. Prior to the search the IJN adds two fighters and two NAVs to the 2-box.

The allies are able to exclude the two IJN fighters and NAV units and isolate the majority of their surface force currently operating in the South China Sea. Air to air combat sees an IJN carrier fight unit shot down. However, the chances are good that its home carrier will be sunk anyway.

The IJN light carrier is indeed sunk along with a heavy cruiser. A second heavy cruiser is damaged and two others are forced to abort.

The allies press to continue the naval air battle, however, the IJN is able to disengage and end the battle. The Japanese plan to bring a carrier strike force of their own to counterattack the USN boldly patrolling the South China Sea.

The ChiComm's are moving now moving to try to get in position for a fair to good odds attack on liberating Sian. Whether or not that's possible this turn given the winter weather in the North Temperate is the question.

In central China east of the Mufu mountains, a ChiComm cavalry corps liberates Nanchang.

Not to be outdone, the Nationalist Chinese also have a cavalry corps in central China on the move and threatening Hangchow. And they have a cavalry division northwest of Hengyang in position to raid the RP northeast of that city if the Japanese don't react.

On the main front, Nationalist army units are moving to flank the Japanese lines in the south.

Between the Nationalist and ChiComm the Japanese will be forced to take a land or risk being outmaneuvered by the Chinese somewhere in China.

With the fine weather in the Philippines, MacArthur is pushing to take Manila again. This renewed push starts off with a partially successful ground strike.

However, the odds prior to HQ support were < 6A and with three Japanese units now holding the city these odds were deemed to low. Especially, when the USN hasn't put in place in the South China Sea several of its battleships and heavy cruisers that could provide significant naval bombardment support. So this early in the turn, the USA passes on taking the risk for assaulting Manila. Also, there are two of the land units still organized (army and division), which if disorganized would alone provide an additional +3 to the attack odds.

Now to the Eastern Front. The Soviets start things off with three ground strikes aimed at German command and control (i.e., HQ units) on the Moscow front.

The first of these three ground strikes fail miserably.

The Soviets considered a couple of other high risk, high gain land combats but decided on two high odds land combat this early in the turn. Given the situation in the East, maneuver is almost as good as successful combat for forcing the Germans back and possibly trapping them. The first of the two land combats was automatic.

One of several frustrating things that happened when last turn ended without the allies getting their move, and with fine weather, was this critical rail junction controlled by the Germans. Because of German control, Soviet non-oil and oil resources in Georgia and the Caucuses were cut off from Soviet factories in the East. The Soviets had 2 CPs in the Caspian Sea which meant only 2 of a number of these critical resources could reach factories. This had been the case for the Soviets for their last three turns of production. One mitigating factor was that the oil in this region cutoff from Soviet factories could be used and could be saved by the Soviets. The Soviets were in turn using oil saved earlier in the game in Urals and east for production but last turn ran out of that oil. It was, and still is, vital that the Soviets open up a path for the resources in Georgia and the Caucuses to get to Soviet factories. They succeeded in doing that this impulse and plan to make sure this vital rail link remains open for the remainder of this turn and the game.

This land combat goes after the spearhead of the German southern pincer in the Moscow theater. The land combat is successful but not as successful as it could have been due to Luftwaffe ground support.

Can not the Western Allies use the route through the Mediterranean and Turkey to reach USSR with the BPs instead of Archangelsk?

To me it looks like at least a couple of BPs could be send this route.
