Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Initiative.

The allies win the initiative roll and elect to go first.

The Axis wants to know where those rolls are when it rolls naval combat.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. Actions.

With fine weather in the Med and in the North Monsoon, which are primary two active theaters involving Western Allies, the US though this impulse was a good one to play one of their three o-chits and take a super-combine. This will allow the USA to make all the naval moves they need, make all the air attacks or moves they want and make the three or four land combats they want to.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. USN. South China Sea.

The USN sends a carrier strike force to the 4 box and an invasion task force to the 3 box (target Hainan) in the South China Sea. Through greatly outnumbering the IJN forces there the USA opts for no combat. The objective for this impulse for the USA in the Pacific is a successful amphibious invasion of Hainan and to capture Manila. There will be time later this impulse for trying to engage and destroy the Japanese forces in the South China Sea, specifically including their CPs. This impulse is not that time.

The IJN, being soundly outnumbered and with minimally protected CPs in box 0, as the non-phasing player also elects for no combat.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. USN. China Sea.

Learning from the lessons of the turn that never happened (i.e., last turn that was this turn), the USN sends a carrier attack force into the China Sea to force the IJN to deal with the USN in the China Sea and not give the IJN the freedom to sortie into and raid rear USN sea areas such as the Marianas and the Bismarck Sea.

The USN elects for combat and ...

I did you not, less than 5-minutes after I posted a response to this the USN rolled a 10 and the IJN rolled a 1 for search. Fortunately for the USN, even with those rolls the USN still outnumbered the IJN and would happily trade them carrier for carrier. Also, the Japanese have lightly defended CPs that could get dragged into a naval battle in the China Sea if such a battle went out for more than one round. So the Japanese opt to avoid combat.

But still, I don't know if General Courtenay is a sage or was the jink. Funny how things like this happen isn't it.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. USN. Ground Strike. Manila.

These results make me wonder if the USN carrier planes involved in this ground strike were even loaded with bombs.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. USA. Land Combat. Manila.

FINALLY! All three Japanese units were destroyed because there wasn't any valid path for retreat. The CB Engineering division was one the three units that advance into Manila in order to get started on repairing the port. Once repaired, Manila will serve as the primary USN naval base in the Pacific. Also worth noting was that MacArthur and his HQ was also one of the three units that advance into Manila.

Turn 27. Jan/Feb 1944. Allied #1. USN. West Med. Naval Air Combat. Round 2.

Combat ends after the second round. Though the Luftwaffe saw a fighter unit shot down and a second one forced to abort, their NAV unit (actually bomber with air to sea factors) is still flying. Really a victory, though costly one, for the Luftwaffe.

I think maybe a small bug here. The result said the allies need to destroy 1 unit, however, I they didn't have to destroy any units.
