Daylight comes and the light cruisers are game for one more skirmish.

Only one Yankee ship gets away for almost zero damage for the IJN...a resounding victory!

Meanwhile, IJN minesweepers are busy clearing mines, but a xak blunders into a fresh minefield at Pendleton where a huge amount of forces are unloading over the beaches...I guess Marine Corp training might be interrupted some. (Wishful thinking on my part!)

Elsewhere, numerous AKV's arrive at Santa Ana...can they unload their Army fighters, and more importantly will the Allied 4E beasties show up and pulverize them on the ground at a now overstacked airfield?

Or is the port too small, and the fighters, desperately needed, not be able to unload? Am I capable of making such a blunder?

Sub attacks are fierce and numerous, as is the minesweeping...but the only ship hit is off Luzon but a tanker. Can't even remember what it is doing there.

With dawn, comes the threat of air strikes...my goodness. Santa Ana has the 2nd Tank unloading, another Division is unloading at Pendleton along with about 15 other units...oh my. Four loaded AKVs'...160 planes...can they thread the sub presence (yes), avoid the air attacks and unload?

During the night an IJN battleship bombarded San Diego, and a Cruiser bombarded San Luis (swept first by three destroyer squadrons) but the level 7 runway is devoid of planes (or at least I don't damage any). Yesterday there was a horde of PT boats there, where are they now?

The only PT boat encounter...

Half a world away, the Japanese bombers strike...and strike hard with complete tactical surprise!

The transports are left burning on the runways as strike after strike hits them...

Lions and tigers and bears! What is happening here!

Carriers, Battleships, Troop Transports heading for Portland. Can it be? Is this part of a multi-faceted invasion designed to bring American to her knees?

With Eight divisions unloaded in Southern California, Japanese troops on the Walk of Stars, at Redondo Beach, headed for Hollywood, can Portland be at risk too?

Shocker, to end all shockers, there are no, nada, zilch Allied air attacks, sweeps, over Southern California...

Japanese ships disembark thousands of soldiers, guns, tanks, supplies, fighters.

Praise the ancestors, look at those fighters!

A mistake on my part here, I think I could have loaded the planes with Escort orders, and then when they unloaded, would have immediately been able to fly CAP. Merely a guess on my part...but I think that it would work.

In the background, the Hollywood Hills minus the annoying American sign.

Can you spot the Korean laborers brought along with the Construction Engineers.

Japan has thought of almost everything.

Everything, but how to escape that is.

The West Coast Operation...

Some members of the forum have urged me to be somewhat silent on my goals and tactics here, not for fear of a direct leak to the Allies, but rather for fear of an inadvertent leak. And there have been hints here and there in the past, but so obtuse only a rabidly paranoid yours truly saw them.

I get so much enjoyment out of the AAR, it is really difficult to be quiet or less than honest (deceptive), but I have been very silent (at least I think so) for a long time.

I mentioned this plan a long time ago, and well, it got less than a positive response from the readers.

This is not the optimal plan for invading the West Coast...I missed that boat as I would have need to strike much earlier and at Portland. Cie la vie.

This is however a plan I have confidence in pulling off.

The first part of the invasion has gone very well, very well indeed. I have had my blunders (Goat Island), but really I am in very good shape going forward.

How I get out is another matter.

The deception now is to fake at Portland; fake at LA; make Jocke think I am here for the long term. All or nothing; when in reality this is simply a raid to trash San Diego and grab whatever other easy VPs I can and flee.

Flee back to the perimeter.

I am hoping to take the Allies by surprise again with this tactic. I am counting on you the reader not blowing it for me...and I have trust there that you won't. Many thanks for all your wonderful contributions...keep them coming, but remember lose lips sink ships.

Just look, gentle readers, at that map!

Possible Allied Responses:

Full out fight in California...including carrier clash.

Aggressive attack in SRA or other deep invasion. SRA/Burma most likely areas.

I plan on trying to be flexible, with an eye to preserving my forces...especially ships. The extra resources in a scenario two style game make this a solid option.

What was I doing with that 2 point tanker? I have no clue...normally I never, ever use those little fuel hogs although I have a plan for them now. Muhaha!

A large amount of shipping is here...trying to get it better protected as the Allies can come from many different directions.

I had been hoping to catch an East Coast Convoy headed to San Diego, but it was always a slim chance, since Jocke probably diverted everything to Panama or even further south since the fall of Pearl.

Can you redirect a convoy once you have chosen a map entry point? I can't remember.

You just have to pinch yourself looking at that map! Is this the high water mark for Japan?

I know how you feel about keeping a detailed AAR (fun!) with attendant minor concerns about inadvertent op sec issues. I've been reading both AARs. Over the past few months, I haven't detected even a whiff of an issue.

I just heard from Jocke and the news is to keep processing turns normally for now....the bug seems to be some kind of unit upgrade bug/glitch/mistake.

And rolling back a few days seems very unlikely.

Nice to hear, and what I suspected....it is accidental slips in other threads that I really feared the most. Or even me, accidentally posting in the wrong AAR! Did that once or twice over the years!

I certainly seemed to have achieved complete tactical surprise. I certainly put a lot of thought and effort and clicks and even sacrificed some troops into misdirection at every level of the game that I am aware of.

I think it paid off...

Now to burn San Diego, steal whatever fuel is left and get back to Pearl or Alaska.

A look at the TFs at Camp Pendleton unloading over the beaches....

Normally I don't run such large task forces as that 50 ship monster, but it was correcting the Goat Island mistake...San this, San that...the Japanese find Southern California very perplexing.

A look at the first troops into LA.

More on the way.

I have made heavy use of switching preparation locations among elite troops.

Since LA has a stacking limit of 160,000 and is Urban Heavy terrain it should become quite the defensive position.

I don't see how I could conquer it -- even with daily battleship bombardments. My experience in 1944 in another multiverse has shown me the futility of that plan.

Always gratifying to hear, thanks. Many thanks and huzzahs should really go to Olorin, who started this journey.

I have been so tied up in these two games, my comments in other AARs has been very limited of late, but I read whenever I can!

The AAR's really add to the enjoyment level (and quality of play).

I too read both AAR's, and so dont usually comment in either. I would agree completely with CR - not a whiff of opsec breach. And I also want to say how much I am enjoying this contest. You and Joc are both to be commended for the effort required to keep these AAR's so up-to-date and interesting.
