Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Axis #1. IJN. China Sea.

Japan uses the two naval moves of their combine to add additional escorts and CPs to the 0-box of both the China Sea and South China Sea.

In the China Sea the IJN attempts to engage the USA NAV flying there but fail to make contact. During the attempt, the Japanese add 2 fighters to the 0-box and the USA adds a fighter to the 1-box to provide fighter protection for the USN Dauntless.

Those are minimum figures; I think you might want more. You need to be able to shatter the Germans. Of course, if you don't have enough units, you should build units, but if you have any doubts, build O-chits. The end of the game is rushing at you, and you need to be able to shatter the Germans.

and instead of super combined consider using o chit to double a strong area and evaporating a hole in front of you ;-)

One supercombined the first impulse; doubling for all the other ones after that.

And the Germans keep a straight line defence and not a ZoC defence in Russia. Which leaves them with much more weak spots than if they were just ZoC defending.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. USN. China Sea.

Three USN task forces converge in the China. An amphibious force with carrier support is in box 3 with 4 corps and 2 divisions positioned with the intention of landing in mainland Japan.

The second task force is a carrier strike force in the 4 box which has the objective of winning control of the China Sea and protecting the other two task forces.

The third task force, which is in the 2 box, includes troops on transport (including MacArthur) which will are to reinforce and help breakout of the beachheads in later impulses this turn.

Given the high priority of the amphibious operations, the USA elects for no combat.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. USN. South China Sea.

Storms in the South China Sea have grounded all aircraft. With that in mind the USN puts strong surface forces into that area and attempts to force a naval surface battle with the Japanese. It's the IJN that finds, surprises and isolates sea box 0, containing an allied transport loaded with an aircraft.

The IJN could have elected to avoid the battle but instead presses it sinking a USN submarine unit and CP. The transport is only half aborted.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. USN. South China Sea. Round 2.

Both sides stay and it's the USN that surprises and isolates sea box 0 this round. The decision in round 1 to not avoid battle is coming to roost for the Japanese.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. USN. South China Sea. Round 2. Naval Surface Battle.

The Japanese pay the price.

Both sides, again stay, but the battle ends with both search rolls fail.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. IJN. China Sea.

With an impending allied invasion of the Japanese Home Islands the Japanese, as the non-phasing player, elect to try to initiate a naval combat. However, it's the USN the finds and surprises the IJN. With a chance to isolated sea box 0, sink the last remaining Japanese transport and sink/abort a large number of Japanese CPs the USN elects to continue with the battle instead of avoiding it.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. IJN. China Sea. Naval Air Battle.

The naval air battle is an overwhelming success for the USN with the last remaining Japanese transport loaded with a garrison sunk along with 8 CPs and another 2 CPs aborted.

Perfection for the USN would be if this battle ended now.

Turn 30. Jul/Aug 1944. Allied #2. IJN. China Sea. Round 2. Search. Air to Air.

Uh oh ... it's a reversal of fortunate with the IJN finding, surprising and isolating the USN amphibious task force in the 3-box. It's a bloodbath for the USN carrier pilots. This doesn't look good.

It's not good but it could have been worse. Though, this attack essentially ends the USA hopes of invading the Japanese Home Islands this turn.

Both sides decide to stick around.
