I have seen few setups that demand a reroll on initiative as much as that one does. A double move here by the Soviets is devastating.

As Axis I am often pleased when the Western Allies use their strategic bombers on ground strike missions.

Especially when they fail.

Note that most Allied players, including me, misuse their strategic bombers like this.

Turn 31. Sep/Oct 1944. Victory Totals.

Barring any issue, I plan on playing this game out until Germany, Italy and Japan are completely conquered. That's my WW-2 simulation part of this AAR. However, from a gaming perspective I will determine the faction winner and faction rankings based on their score at the end of turn 36 (Jul/Aug 1945).

For this game, the score that a faction gets will be calculated by the following equation.

Score = (VPs_Held - Bid) + (Bonus_Points - Penalty_Points)

The bid is the number of VPs historically held at the of the war. The factions and their bid are:

(1) Euro-Axis (Germany & Italy), bid 0
(2) Japan, bid 9
(3) Nationalist China, bid 1.
(4) Western Allies (USA, CW and France), bid 42
(5) USSR & ChiComm, bid 15.

Only allied factions are eligible for bonus points. An allied faction gets 2 bonus points per turn for a incomplete, or complete, conquest of an axis power earlier than historical. The historical conquests of the axis were,

(1) Italy, Sep 8, 1943.
(2) Germany, May 7, 1945.
(3) Japan, Sep 2, 1945.

For game purpose these dates are:

(1) Italy, turn 25 (Sep/Oct 1943).
(2) Germany, turn 35 (May/June 1945).
(3) Japan, turn 36 (Jul/Aug 1945).

So in this game, the USA, who is a member of the Western Allies faction, conquered Italy on turn 23 (May/June 1943). This means that the Western Allies conquered Italy 2 turn earlier than historical and therefore they get 4 bonus points (2 per turn earlier than historical).

Penalty points are assessed against a faction if and only if the only victory totals held by a country, or countries, in that faction are asterisked victory points (i.e., "* based on closet capital). In that case, the number of penalty points assessed is equal to the number of (asterisked) victory points assigned to that country. Basically, if a country of a faction only has asterisked victory points then they do not count.

So based on my equation the current faction scores are:

(1) Euro-Axis: 20 VPs - 0 Bid + 0 Bonus_Points - 0 Penalty_Points = 20
(2) China: 1 VPs - 1 Bid + 0 Bonus_Points - 0 Penalty_Points = 0
(3) Japan: 8 VPs - 9 Bid + 0 Bonus_Points - 0 Penalty_Points = -1
(4) Western Allies: 32 VPs - 42 Bid + 4 Bonus_Points - 0 Penalty_Points = -6
(5) USSR/ChiComm: 5 VPs - 15 Bid + 0 Bonus_Points - 0 Penalty_Points = -10

Turn 32. Nov/Dec 1944. Trade.

Two changes from last turn.

(1) The CW stopped the 1 BP to the USSR.
(2) The CW increased the non-oil RPs given to the USA from 1 to 2.

The allies got excited when the axis rolled a 1. At worse, the axis would have to re-roll and move the marker on the initiate track 1 close to the allies, which would be to 0. At best, the allies would win the second roll and make mush out of the axis in the East and in Austria/Poland. Maybe some too in France. Well, all of this is predicated that the allied don't roll a 1. However, the allied players had the gut feeling that they that's exactly what they were going to roll. I don't know why, but they had it right. The allies roll a 1 too, so no re-roll was necessary and the axis move first.

Is the Hannover militia the only Axis unit, in supply, in mainland USSR?

At this stage of the war, hitting German production is a lot less important than earlier in the war. Any newly produced units won't be on the map for very long, and if you can get rid of some units that are already there, that is worth it.
