Diplomacy Event Script for Franco Spain This event provides another path for Spain to join the Axis without reaching 100% Pro-Axis mobilization. If Vichy Decision Event is Yes Decision event: (If Spain > 50% towards Axis & (US & Russia are not at war))Franco's price for Spain joining the Axis are the French North African territories and the closure of the Suez Canal to the British. If we accept we must attack Vichy France and then conquer Algiers, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. This will weaken the Russian offensive that the General Staff is planning. Do we accept his terms or not? Yes / No Yes - Germany DOWs Vichy France. When Algeria Morocco, Tunisia and Alexandria falls to the Axis, Spain joins the Axis and French North Africa becomes part of Spain. If Gibraltar falls this territory will also become part of Spain. If Vichy Decision Event is No Decision event: (If Spain > 50% towards Axis & (US & Russia are not at war))Franco's price for Spain joining the Axis are the French North African territories and the closure of the Suez Canal to the British. If we accept we must conquer Algiers, Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt. This will weaken the Russian offensive that the General Staff is planning. Do we accept his terms or not? Yes / No Note: This event rewards German conquest of North Africa and Egypt with Spain as an Ally if the Axis makes a major move to conquer North Africa. Needs to be tested. Can a good Axis player achieve this? Is the requirement to conquer Egypt too much? Can an Allied player counter this? Can the AI achieve Version 1? Can the AI achieve Version 2? What new garrison, offensive & transport scripts does the AI need? Version 1: Requires Germany to Conquer Morocco, Algiers, Tunisia and Egypt for Spain to Join 1. Decision Event If YES: 2. (If Vichy France Exists): War Entry: Vichy France joins Allies 3. War Entry (Spain > Axis) if Morroco, Algiers, Tunisia and Egypt surrendered. 3. Annexation (Morroco > Spain) 4. Annexation (Algiers > Spain) 5. Annexation (Tunisia > Spain) Version 2: (Removes Egypt surrender requirement, allows Franco to change his mind) This version provides the allies an opportunity; via Diplomacy vs Spain or Russia, to change Franco's mind about joining the Axis. 1. Decision Event If YES: 2. (If Vichy France Exists): War Entry: Vichy France joins Allies 3.0 If USSR is at war: Popup: General Franco declares Spain will remain neutral. (Franco breaks agreement with Axis) 4.0 War Entry (Spain > Axis) if Morroco, Algiers, Tunisia surrendered and USSR is not at war. ------ If Spain is less than 35% Mobilization towards Axis: Popup: General Franco declares Spain will remain neutral (He breaks agreement with Axis) ------ If Spain is >35% Mobilization: Popup: General Franco announces Spain has joined the Axis. Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia is now Spanish Territory. 4.1 Annexation (Morroco > Spain)(If Spain joined Axis) 4.2 Annexation (Algiers > Spain)(If Spain joined Axis) 4.3 Annexation (Tunisia > Spain)(If Spain joined Axis) "Operation Felix - There was an alternative to Barbarossa to the extent that oil was the main objective. This was a southern strategy championed by Admiral Raeder and others. That was to force Spain into the Axis and then seize Gibraltar--Operation Felix. With Gibraltar in their hands, the Mediterranean would be essentially an Axis lake. Most of North Africa was already in Axis hands. Libyan Italian colony. And Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco were controlled by Vichy France, intent on collaborating with the Germans. The British would be forced to withdrawal or surrender Malta. The British force in 1940 was very small and poorly armed. Only Italian incompetence enabled the British to hang on. Then once the Mediterranean was in Axis hands, the Germans could proceed to drive on British-held Suez from Italian Libya. From there was nothing standing between the Germans and the oil resources of the Middle East, both in Iraq and Iran. And there was considerable pro-German feeling not only in Egypt, but Iraq and Iran as well. Given the reatively small British force in Egypt... And it would have provided the Germans all the oil they needed and with the Mediterranean in their hands, a safe route to Italy and the Reich." "Following the Fall of France in June 1940, Hermann Göring advised Adolf Hitler to occupy Spain and North Africa rather than invade the UK. As early as June 1940, before the armistice with France had been signed, General Heinz Guderian also argued for seizing Britain's strategically important naval base of Gibraltar. Guderian even urged Hitler to postpone the armistice so that he could rush on through Spain with two Panzer divisions, take Gibraltar, and then invade French North Africa. General Alfred Jodl, chief of Oberkommando der Wehrmacht (OKW) operations, presented Hitler with a formal plan to cut off Britain from its eastern empire by invading Spain, Gibraltar, North Africa, and the Suez Canal instead of invading the British Isles."
