I've been playing Combat Mission: barbarossa to berlin, a game from battlefront, pretty good graphics, sounds, gameplay, except for its very limited scope of battle (compared to SP:WAW)

Makes a good training tool for SP:WAW cuz you gain respect for buildings, roads, artillery, and terrain; also helps you formulate small-area/group tactics on offense and defense. (Ie. what to use/mix in offense defense) in an attack/defense of VHexes.

Also shows you how hard it is to actually assault a tank, and why % to destroy using hand grenades are so low.

What do you guys think?

CM:BB is a very good game. :) I'm hoping that EYSA will turn out something similar in gameplay value, although i guess it's more like GIC in style (but better)

Yes I would have to agree that the CM games do give you that more up close and personal experiance. You do pay a whole lot more attention to cover and terrian in these style of games.
I think what you have brought up is worth keeping in mind....

Yeah..I really love CMBB (and CMBO) and it´s a great alternative when I´m tired of all that design works for SPWAW! :D

Compared to SPWAW, CMBB is much more advanced and training results don´t well translate to SPWAW gameplay, but I agree that the game teaches much better lessons on urban combat ect. and what terrain modifiers really should be (woods impassable for vehicles f.e) in SPWAW too.

I love to set the camera into the middle of a heavy artillery barrage with "shake effect" on and that reminds me why the artillery is so suppressive in SPWAW!
