I have been trying to load this ship which has a capacity of 4800 with a squadron of Warhawks. Never had a problem loading ships with squadrons previously but for some reason I tell ship to load squadron but it doesn't happen. They are not restricted. I tried to load as a cargo and as transport mission and when I when I check the following day they are not loading. ????? Anyone have a clue as to what I'm doing wrong?

Your screenshot already shows a squadron loaded- is that the one you're after? Planes load immediately.

You can only have one squadron loaded on each ship- regardless of how big the ship is. The same goes for land units- only one unit per ship.

You are loading the aircraft, going to SF while docked at SF, and having Unload Cargo enabled.

So the aircraft should load and unload on the next turn in SF.

Change to Do Not Unload and see if the problem goes away

The reason is the ship has no destination set other than the port the ship is in. And unload cargo is set. What you need to do is set a destination for the TF and your all set....GP

This is strange - I'm sure I have loaded ships in this way many times (waiting for other TF's to be loaded) and they
have not been unloaded in the loading port.....

I usually load TKs in Palembang this way at start. Set to Do Not Unload, load fuel, wait for some escort arrive in Palembang, then go to Oz.

Thanks.....will put destination point in. I thought I had loaded ships with no destination point in past and it worked. Will do that.

As long as the TF is shown as "loading" all the ships in the TF will retain their loads. If it completes loading and (1) has no destination plus (2) is set to "unload cargo", it will carry out its instructions.

Sequence is important in many orders. If the TF needs to wait for one reason or another before departure it should be set to "Do Not Unload". When the wait is over, give the TF a destination and only then, change the orders to "Unload Cargo". This can be done while the last ship is loading so that the TF can depart as soon as it completes.

Having the TF depart with "Do Not Unload" and "Retirement Allowed" set is a classic fuel/time waster! It is easy to do so I am OCD about checking TFs before they arrive at destination to make sure they will unload before returning.

I've loaded task forces without setting a destination lots of times. None has ever loaded up and then unloaded; they've either waited patiently for sailing orders or (as has happened in a few instances) unloaded when I clicked the "Unload Cargo/Troops" button over on the right. So I don't think that's the problem here.

krb3, I'm going way out on a limb, but looking at your screenshot, this newbie doesn't see anything wrong. The screen seems to show that 49th PG/9th PS has been loaded and that the ship is now loading supplies. All that is WAD. If you sent this task force to, say, Alameda and unloaded it, does 49/9 make the trip, or not? If not, then it seems we have a bug.

This will work, but only if the TF is set to "Do Not Unload."

Isn't this what the previous posters have stated?

Here's something I did just yesterday in my current game. I ordered a TF at Rangoon to load but did not give it a destination. Now, two days later, the TF is sitting at Rangoon fully loaded, waiting for its sailing orders.

It is an amphibious TF and it is fully loaded.

As has been said you need to set 'do not unload'. The reason why you need to do this, particularly in this case, is it is a single ship in a huge port. It is loading and unloading in one turn. The other example posted here in Rangoon cannot do that as the loading process has exceeded the ports capacity,

Strikes me this is a UI problem. Under what conceivable conditions are Load and Unload not mutually exclusive? Why would anyone want to load and unload in the same port??
And yet if you forget to click the right buttons this is exactly what happens. I am finding these little niggles exasperating, at the level the player is simulating you would have staff to take care of this sort of stuff.

Krb.

Another variable here is if you, like me, are using multi-turn cycles. I use 2 days. So game will forge ahead with activities in accordance with game parameters...so plan your orders accordingly.

Echoing note above my observation is you only need to do this when loading & using multi-turn cycles (set to "do not unload) with aircraft loads and for some reason supply loads on support/aux (ADs, AEs, et.al.) although I've made it a habit for all for consistency. Having played through all releases, most beta, and many mods no idea if or when these behaviors may have changed with different versions. Cargo and troops do seem content to stay loaded. As a result I often load troops/cargo, aggregate ships together, then load aircraft, add to TF and set sail. A subtle hint above is "planes load immediately". So, pop'em on, join to the larger TF (if it won't fit at docks), and sail away...

Hey, I am a civie, I guess they just do things a tad differently in the military. Destroy sth in order to save sth, you know? This kind of thing.
