Not sure if this is the best place for this, however, I was wondering if there had ever been any official announcements regarding Distant Worlds 2 or if it was all still just speculation and rumor?

I played Stellaris (which I enjoyed), however I found more often than not it left me wanting to play Distant Worlds which led to be wondering about a sequel.

They've acknowledged that they're working on "the next DW game" but haven't provided any details beyond that. Can't seem to find the post by Erik where he confirms it.

Really, it would be nice to have some info about the progress, as Stellaris failed to keep my attention on it, I keep looking everyday here for some good news regarding DW2

It seems like Stellaris has actually done DW a big favor.

I saw Erik as the latest author in this thread and my heart skipped a beat...

A false alarm this time, but it's wonderful the devs are as frank as they can be with us

By the Darkness of the Shakturi and the Light of the Ancient!! (Also the beauty of the Secureans ladies!)

So nice to finally have an official confirmation of Distant Worlds 2. Honestly, it's the most anticipated strategy game for me since ever. As many pointed out, if you play DW:U, all the other space sims seem so lacking by comparison.

We're all waiting and drooling for news, but thank you for confirming DW2 for us at least!!

Erik,

I appreciate the reply! I am sure I speak for many others when saying I am pleased that it is still in development. I look forward to future news!

Yeah, I must say that even though I enjoy playing Stellaris to a certain extent I feel like it is missing some key things that DW has. So in a way playing Stellaris has me more excited for DW2 so I'm looking forward to learning more about it in the (near?) future :)

Looking forward to this as well, I just hope they improve on the original, and won't take out features like some sequels love to do.

Extremely eager to learn anything about this, but I also appreciate them wanting to keep it under wraps for some time. One thing which was nice about Stellaris development was roughly 1 year from announcement to release. While HOI4 had how many years?

I think development diaries, community feedback, etc is good to build hype and generate feedback before release, but if the lead time is too long it can sap my enthusiasm.

Looking forward to see more at DW2 whenever the time is right - for now enjoying Endless Legend a few years late, which is probably how I should have approached Stellaris!

Did you compare the manpower involved as well?
I am not defending the DW2 devs, but each game takes its own time and if there is nothing to show yet, what would YOU show?

As I posted before, the manpower is probably Elliot with a few artists.
Also I never pushed for info or a release date. Therefore your post is moot.

The above is a great interview with Erik that gets into game development and other things. It's a good read.

Thanks for the link, Retreat1970. I came across it a year ago, but didn't bookmark it. In the broadest sense, I think this interview is the closest thing to a preview of DW2 we're going to have for a long while. Just reading what Erik could or would want to address in a "wrap up project" (DW-U?!), and/or in DW2. Then seeing what they actually did with DW-U, could give us a hint at what they might do with DW2. Just my thoughts.

I think if we make a big enough fuss, we might get thrown a bone.

This is great to hear! I understand if you're very early in the development process but please consider a dev blog entry every now and then showing some game mechanics/graphics/features being created. It doesn't matter if it's bare bones information. I'm sure the DW community will appreciate it a lot as well as garnering good interest in the game.

Doubt it. Erik said they'll release info when ready.

If you haven't, read the interview I linked to in my last post. It explains how DW was developed, and I'm sure the same thing is happening now.

There are indeed many, many games that have a larger development team than we do. However, it's probably more fair to compare this to the development of DW1 + all the time that went into the development of the expansions. By that measure, we are way ahead of schedule.

With that said, I know you are all impatient for news and an eventual release. I can only say that we will release it when it's ready, but I hope we will have a lot of news for you well before another year has passed.

Regards,

- Erik
