Japanese Unit(s) surrounded at Nanking
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Our troops need to rest but the cleanup of about 20,000 Imperial troops should be quick once our boys are ready.

With 10 of 12 units wiped out I can't see there being 20,000 troops left at Nanking. Looks like 71st Inf. Bde. and China Expeditionary Army (minus all the vehicles).

I've come to suspect that often the Recon tally of troops is more or less a day behind. Or it could just be the total number seen, not the 'effective' number of troops that gets shown in the combat report.

At any rate, comparing the two lists gives these remaining.
3rd RGC Capital Division
71st Infantry Brigade
5th RGC Division
China Expeditionary Army

It's possible that one or two of those had their destruction reported in the "surrounded" message.

5th RGC is on the wiped out list. 3rd RGC is almost certainly the one surrounded - the RGC units give up first chance they get!
HQs always seem to be the last to be eliminated. Seems they keep ordering their troops to run interference while they run away!

1945 March 25

The Empire captured:

The Allies captured:
Kaoping is occupied by the Allies

There were Imperial amphibious or airborne operations at:

There were Allied amphibious or airborne operations at:

Imperial Naval Bombardments

Allied Naval Bombardments:
Allied Ships Bombarding Cebu

Our subs are conducting secret activities.

We lost 98 B-29 variants, the vast majority during the daytime strikes. Thank goodness the bombers went in before the sweeps, or we might have lost more valuable fighters and pilots. BTW, the nighttime sweeps did not fly at all - does anybody know for certain if nighttime sweeps work? They were done in real life but that doesn't mean they would be a big factor.

Our bombers did amass 291 Manpower hits on Tokyo. Up to 1,000 strategic points were added (did not snapshot yesterday), and Fires at Tokyo should add more in succeeding days. Some points were certainly accounted for by Heavy Industry hits at Nagasaki/Sasebo, and there is more work to be done at that target.

Cleanup proceeds at Chengtu.

I'm sure I missed this, but how are you gentlemen defining victory in this match? I see you are getting close to the magical 2:1 VP ratio.

And thanks for bringing up night sweeps. No matter how long I play this monster, something heretofore not imagined pops up now and then.

Cheers,
CC

My kind of contest: You battle intellectually over more than three years and in the end it all comes down to who can drink the most!

It is almost like Star Trek, where besides all the phasers, faster-than-light-travel, spaceships and politics in the end the fate of the Galaxy is decided by fist fight of captain Kirk against a forum regular.

Chengtu is secured; at Nanking the attack will continue tomorrow against 10,000 hold-outs; two units at Chengting will move east to hit Imperials in the open. Our units already there, which might have caught them in Strategic movement mode, is massively disrupted by unfettered enemy air strikes. There won't be much help for that in the near future as AA and/or air support are some time away. Another tank Bde is also railing in from securing Tsiaotso, not far behind the current front.

Chungking is now surrounded and sufficient strength is in position (units able to defend themselves) that we are now moving into that city. The cream of the Chengtu assaulters are also now moving. A few of the Chinese Army units which freed Chengtu will stand there to recover damage.

Maizuru 1st SNLF Wiped Out at Cagayan by attrition!!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

More rest needed at Cebu, but a partial attack to clear recalcitrants at Cagayan will be made tomorrow.

No nighttime sweeps flew again... Tomorrow over the Home Islands is forecast 'only' as Overcast, so we will try for the 61x Ki-84r Frank factory complex at Maebashi. There are many aircraft factories there, including a 33x Ki-84r Frank factory complex, but so far Recon shows only 167 guns. P-51D and P-47N will sweep ahead of the B-29 groups. Or behind them.

China west.
