I was looking at ship and air group placement for one of Andy's scenarios and have a couple of questions.

USS Gillis AVD-12 (Clemson Class) – should it be added? I cant find it in the database, is it under another name? She was supposedly at Kodiak Alaska on 7 Dec 41.

USS Rigel - should it be AR not an AD?
Reference - http://www.navsource.org/archives/09/03/0313.htm
and from https://www.history.navy.mil/research/histories/ship-histories/danfs/r/rigel-i.html “Redesignated a repair ship, AR-11, on 10 April 1941, she underwent overhaul at Bremerton, then sailed to Hawaii for more extensive repairs and alterations. By mid-July she was at Pearl Harbor and was still in the yard on 7 December 1941. She was without her authorized armament and superstructure and was slightly damaged during the Japanese attack. Her crew, unable to fire, immediately turned their skills to rescue and salvage operations. Conversion work on Rigel was completed on 7 April 1942.”

Should the Aristaeus Class Battle Damage Repair Ships be added as ARs ?
These were LST conversions to repair ships, they were designated ARB-1 to ARB-12. In the game we did use the LST conversions to AGP ships.

From what I can find on the internet this class of ships could repair all types of ships. For example, the USS Aristaeus worked on torpedo damage to the USS Pennsylvania, the USS Oceanus worked on emergency repairs to the battleship New Mexico and the USS Phaon worked on “almost everything from small boats to battleships.”

They may not have put these ships in the database because they are simulated some how by other ships or by bases, I was just curious. In any case it may be of use for individuals doing mods.

Thanks Daryl

The USCG was part of the war effort (officially) since Sept 41. USCGC Taney was part of the ASW forces assigned to Pearl Harbor defense on 12/07/41 and had participated in multiple patrols. USS Ward, another of the ASW assets assined to PH defense, sank one of the IJN minisubs on that day. CGC Taney had been overhauled already from her peacetime configuration by 120741. With a variety of missions over the course of her career her captain and crew were actually far more experienced overall than her USN colleagues. BTW the billet for her CO was at least an O-5 if not an O-6 and she actually displaced a good bit more than the average USN destroyer. She withdrew from the Pacific in Sept 42 (and had a unique AAW configuration) later returning as a Command Ship in late 1944.

Hello Daryl,

The Aristeus class ARB is in the DBB Class data file at #2710. It is there in case someone wanted to add the individual ships. If it is not in your class database, feel free to copy it. Proper art is there too at bitmap #510.

Pretty sure JWE used the Navsource data for armament and the like. He did for almost everything else. There is an error in class Nationality. It is presently 09-British, but easy to change to 04-USN. It doesn’t really matter so long as the ship nationality is correct, but why not do everything .

Matt

Great info! I have overlooked ship class slot #2710 and bitmap 510 and created a "modified LST" class in my mod for the 12 Aristeus ARBs - will switch them to class #2710.
Modders may also want to add the 39 Achelous class ARLs (37 USN + 2 British). In that case some LSTs in the game need to be eliminated in order to avoid duplicate hulls (LST-81-83 for example). LST-454 is special, since she served as genuine LST before being converted to ARL (the other 38 were converted while building or shortly after commissioning).
