For anyone looking at downloading this mod - I attempted to use it in a PBEM game and eventually had to PM pcellsworth to discover the mod uses the stock maps with no upgrades.(I was using the extended maps which made Aden and Abadan mostly useless since the X,Y coordinates didn't match)

pcellsworth was very kind and put me on the right track. many thanks!

Hopefully I said that clearly... and for at least the first couple turns The Coral Sea is a happening place!

The Val pool is now 23 ac, Kate is 3 and 11. I also changed the B5N1 to only bombs as it was not strong enough to carry a torpedo - both model 11 (770hp) and model 21 (970hp). Only the B5N2 carried the torpedo.

I liked old Nikademus version of the mod and I like this one. There is also possibility to get this one upgraded:

So is thie Mod worth the effort? Has a reasonable effort been made to change bases, supply levels, aircraft pools, unit locations, etc been made to historically accurate numbers in May of 1942? I think the scenario goes til 1946? Maybe a "full campaign" which allows the Japanese to go in any direction in May 42 but ends around the time of Saipan or maybe Jan 1944 would be better.

Go to Big B's site for a tidied up version which uses the extended map and plays very well against AI or PBEM - https://sites.google.com/site/bigbsshipyard/home

So is thie Mod worth the effort? Has a reasonable effort been made to change bases, supply levels, aircraft pools, unit locations, etc been made to historically accurate numbers in May of 1942? I think the scenario goes till 1946? Maybe a "full campaign" which allows the Japanese to go in any direction in May 42 but ends around the time of Saipan or maybe Jan 1944 would be better.

1. The scenario goes till 1946 and plays normally, just the start date and situation is different.
2. You may go in any direction from May 42, although Moresby push is already planned.
3. Authors made effort to change things to be more suited for 42, but you CAN get better results if playing form XII 41.
4. Aircraft pools were adjusted. I don't know if they are exactly historical, but for sure they are different from 41 situation. As Japan you get Zeros, Hayabusas, Bettys in numbers in pools. Unfortunately production is not adjusted.
5. Japan get all DEI/Malaya/etc bases and forces were moved to those conquered bases. I haven't check if all units are historically correctly placed, but that has not meaning to me. If played by myself - all units would be moved as needed, not as historically correct.
6. Supply levels are adjusted ONLY in new conquered bases. Unfortunately the rest is in state of XII 41 (both sides).
7. Japan industry is stronger but only because of new acquisitions. Level of reserves is different for supply, fuel, oil, resources, but unfortunately the same for the rest (man, HI, LI, NS, MS, SR).
8. Units are moved and placed to their 42 locations, but of course not all.

In short: you get new tactical situation with locations, forces, pools and tactical opening of scenario. It's nice to play, but it's not strictly historical.

Nikademus wrote about his version this:
"What This Scenario attempts to be: this scenario is meant to be a more comprehensive 1942 GC scenario than it's predecessor with a focus on minimizing player administration on Turn 1.

- Most units, including reinforcements that arrived between 12/7/41 and 5/1/42 have been moved either to their historical locations, or placed in a logical distribution based on the time period in question. The exception here is China.
- The bulk of the opposing forces' merchant fleets have been concentrated at either their respective auto-convoy ports (Osaka/Columbo/San Francisco), or their home capital as in the case of Australia.
- The various opposing fleets have also been congregated in large part at home ports and bases with the exception of units assigned to imminent ops. For the Japanese fleet, there was some dispersement of major units to various naval commands so one will find major units at Singapore, Java, and the PI's as well as the Home Islands.
- All warships and merchants have been scrubbed to put them on their most current upgrades as of 5/1/42
- Airplane pools have been adjusted for May of 42. This was roughly based on letting the respective economies run for the six month period from dec41 to may42 + a tweak here or there.
- Map has been adjusted to account for May 42 situation and command HQ assignments dolled out.
- The historical forces for the Coral Sea operation and the situation in Burma are represented in close proximity as these were the two active hot spots at this point in time.
- Some additions to Restricted Commands were put in force to balance out the large amount of Allied LCU's that start the original scenario as well as reinforcements.

What this scenario is NOT: This scenario is not....repeat NOT meant to represent a complete effort to historically place every single air unit, LCU or ship in their historical starting points in May of 1942. Such an effort would require 100's of man hours to accomplish and at the end of it, there would still be nitpickers who will complain that this or that is not HISTORICAL. In my own personal view I believe that, in addition to time constraints that part of the reason why the Stock WitP post 1941 GC scenarios came off looking like partial conversions of the 41 template was because the original developers probably figured that the effort was not worth the cost and time when in reality a game with this level of detail control by the players will quickly result in a completely changed situation.

My primary goal was to ease player administration duties on turn one and enhance enjoyment of the scenario by not having them have to take several hours tracking down units still sitting in their 1941 positions or in reinforcement ports and get them moving. What one has here is a rough mid 42 starting point that allows players to get further into the war without having to first go through the first six months conquering the same areas before getting to the main showdown that was seen during this period and into 1943."

Other changes - some reasonable base upgrades that could have been done between Dec 41 and May 42 and slight increase to Japan's industry - small enough not to change game balance - but an improvement in their industrial base that would be similar to what they would have done historically.

I hope it explain well situation in scenario.
Greets.

Today I update the scenario for the expanded map. I'm saving it as Scenario 68 for my working copy. I changed Abadan, Aden, Subic Bay, Bruin and Shortlands. I ran the first few turns and so far so good. Does anyone know if the expanded map changed any other bases? I'm not sure how much work I can put into this but I'm going to try and track down more information on unit locations and make adjustments. Certain information is difficult to find like Japan's production by month.

Possible change A6M3 / 32 production started in April 42 and ended in Nov 42 and built 322 planes / that is 46 per month. This aircraft lost 1000km of range.
A6M3 / 22 started production in Dec 42 in an effort to restore some of the lost range.
Does this mean all production of A6M2 stopped by April 42? I do know during Guadalcanal campaign there was a shortage of A6M2 because that was the only model that had the range to get to Guadalcanal and back.

I know there is a way to make a scenario start with a alternate set of scripts which is randomly selected at game start. I may do that to alter the starting tactical situation. It depends on how much time I can devote to the project.

Japanese aircraft production - 222 Vals produced in 1942, 126 Kates produced in 1942
D3A1 470 produced in Nagoya 12/39 - 8/42, D3A2 815 produced in Nagoya 8/42 - 6/44, D3A2 produced in Tokyo 201 12/42 - 8/45
B5N1 669 build by 12/41 but almost all in front line units were B5N2 by P.H. B5N2 280 produced during 1942 - 1943
I've adjust the production rates of Vals and Kates to match these figures.

I updated the position of several ships to their May 1, 1942 positions. Like the Mizuho was at Sing for some reason. She was sunk May 2nd near Yokohoma and was in that port on May 1st. Most of the major ships were in the correct positions a couple of heavy cruisers were in the wrong Japanese port, like Tone and Chiguma. I ran a game for multiple turns and the Coral Sea battle occurred. Yorktown and Lexington suffered moderate to sever damage but they did not sink. Shokaku was modestly damage. Surprisingly he results were similar to the actual battle.

Tracking down where every ship was position will take more time than I can give to this project. I want to update unit positions in China but having very little luck finding the detailed information.

Opening Days, I find it impassable to keep Port Moresby in this scenario. I stopped the first landing forces and carrier group but a second group of each arrives on the six. I still have the Lexington and the Yorktown is damaged.
it does'n not play like the coral sea campain. I know you spent a lot of time in this but I tried 5 different times and it cant be won by the allies against the Jap AI. It would have been nice to have a week of intelligence before the start of the campaign. McaArther had time to setup defenses and position his bombers with supply prier to the invasion attempt. Also were the carriers plans that depleated at the start? I spent 3 weeks moving over the first 7 turns and I see it is impossable to keep PM under these conditions. I really want to get this working. This will be try at a full campaign. Thanks

Ok, I see the issue. In the full campaign you have Nov7 1941 or 0 start date and ending on 08/01/1942 for PM attack. So all of the forces in Truk are available for 2 months to take port moresby. Where the Corel sea campaign is 9 days. I am going to try to give it 9 days and I matched the experience pilots and planes to mach the coral sea campaign. 9 days may be to long considering the forces at Truk. I haven't gone 7 days yet but we will see.

I would like to see some feedback.

Ok, I got to day 5, I sent the landing force in the opposite direction, I sunk a CVL and heavily damaged one of the CVs with 1 bomb hit on the other. I did hit the lunga landing force and lost the Lexington. Yorktown is still functional and I am going to withdraw. I will update tomorrow.

I'd like to hear about the alternet startup scripts but I think this is now a good way to start with setting PM attack for 9 days. This gives you the time to prepare for Guadalcannal and midway. After that, it's anything can happen.

OK, this scenario is not as described above and it heavily favors the IJ. First american pilots on on all 4 carriers are at only 50 or 60 experience, They had 6 months of additional training after pH. and all other air groups are at 50% or less. You have IJN pilots at 80-95%. Halsey's carrier group was in pearl on May 29, not in the north pacific. The port Moresby drive is to relentless and the evasion of Efate would never had happened. The reason the US choose to fight at Guadalcanal was because they new the IJ where stretched to far. IJN would, with the taking EFATE, require 2 sets of rotating carrier groups to support it. They couldn't hold Guad. That would also require Halsey to in-gauge in the coral sea which will mean losing MidWay. I am done with this one.

I'm working on an update version of this scenario as scenario 68 using extended game map. Some changes made to date. Add a lot more scripts from Scenario 1 and updated relevant ones for 5/1/42 start. Josho Maru relocated to Hong Kong. Ship was used in merchant trade between China and Japan. It was sunk 10/11/44 by SS Tang in Formosa strait. Jusan Maru relocated to HK. Kokuyo Maru is incorrect type - actually a tanker. Relocated to Kure and made into tanker type. Departs Kure 5/6/42 to support Aleutian campaign. Kashiwara Maru was converted to CV Junyo and used in Aleutian campaign - made inactive (not the CV just the Maru). Kinjosam Maru is actually an AMC and relocated to Truk. Sunk by SS Greenling 5/4/42 near Truk. Kirishima Maru relocated to Kure. Arrived there 2/17/42 and departed Kure 5/19/42. (I do not the reason for such a long stay). Kinkasan Maru was renamed Paran Maru 3/42. It was repairing at Manila 3/30/42 - 5/26/42. Relocated to Manila with damage. Kisaragi Maru was at Shortlan 4/30/42 - relocated to Shortland. It arrives at Rabual 5/2/42. Kiso Maru converted to gunboat in 42. Escorts Nissani Maru in Nov 42. Relocated. Kisogawa Maru attached to Penang base force 4/42. Relocated to George Town. 5th Division went to Mindanao and arrived 5/3/42. Unable to find any info on Imperial Guards Division until renamed 2nd Imperial Guards - move to Singapore as part of garrison force. 5th Amphibious Brigade unable to find information on this unit. Kure 3rd SNFL actived at Rabaul 5/1/42. US 4th Marine Def Batt went to Efate 4/42, relocated this unit there.

I also upgrade US carrier air group for some additional experience. Most were at 70 not 50-60 as stated above. Added a few points for experience. Reduce the number of replacement Japanese aircraft to much smaller numbers.

Currently testing the changes and trying to see if a Midway operation will take place. Reduced the Coral Sea / PM operation time to 21 days. So far Coral Sea / PM looks to be good.

BTW getting a 100% accurate May 1, 1942 start will be very difficult to achieve.

The new version is ready to try. It has all the scripts and should be much closer to historical.

I loaded this scenario and Kaga is missing but there's an Air Combat TF in Port Blair with no carrier. A while ago I tried Scenario 68 and found the same problem but I thought it's because I wasn't using the extended map. With scenario 65 I'm sure the problem lies with the scenario itself.

Edit: Again ignore. I've learned that Kaga was under repair until May 4th. Excuse my ignorance.
