Hi all,

I've played SC2 to death and can't wait for this new version.
I'm drawn to these types of games because of all the previous games I played in my youth: PanzerBlitz, Third Reich, Clash of Steel, Squad Leader, etc.

While I like both the 3D and Nato counters in SC2, I was never quite satisfied them. After a while I created my own counters for SC2WaW and continue to use them. They have a more familiar look about them.

I have posted a few screen shots. I’m hoping the current Development Team offers a similar counter option in this latest version of SC. I like to think that I’m not alone.

Any comments are welcome.

Cheers,

Angus

Get rid of the bases, the background color on the strength number denotes the owner. Keep the Nato symbols for all but the air and naval units.

Except, perhaps the HQs, nice effect with the portraits.

Hi Seamonkey,

Thanks for the feedback.

All the regular Corps and Armies use the Nato symbols. Any other special units have a silhouette, a unit badge, insignia or portrait.
What do you mean by "get rid of the bases"?

I've tried to upload some other samples but i seem to limited for now.
Will try again later.

Cheers,

Angus

Bases = the background colored squares the images are posed against. Just give us the icons or nato symbols, no need to obstruct the hex's terrain features.

Sorry 'bout the grid...
These were all created for SC2WaW and I'm hoping to contribute something similar for SC3.

Hubert,

I have complete confidence that this game will become another classic and have been waiting patiently...
But, is there any chance you can release some detail of how the counters are saved and possibly modded in this latest version?

Below are some more examples of action in North Africa. I apologize for extending beyond the counters but I wanted to maintain scale and detail. Maybe dropping the "Base" as SeaMonkey suggested, for at least the Naval Units will be a good compromise. I would like to maintain the counter chits, but I can see how they blot out the map detail. Perhaps a semi transparent counter chit if allowed might make an interesting option.

Any feedback is always welcome.

Cheers,

Angus

Hi HimAgain, thank you and the files are all PNG files and modding is still as simple as changing them as desired. There is still also a way to preserve the originals and only mod them on a per campaign basis which is nice if you have a custom campaign and only want the changes to apply just there. With PNGs, partial transparency is now also an option.

Yes, the Fighter images will change as upgrades are applied.

Thanks Hubert,

That's great news. PNG files will offer more flexibility.
I look forward to the release.

The only positive feedback I've had so far to my old SC2 MOD has been with regards to the General's portraits appearing on the HQs. I think it adds atmosphere and literally puts a face on the units.

As you know, SC2 had a limitation on selecting unit icons for the HQ units which restricted my Mod to using the same portraits for all that countries HQs. I worked around it replacing all the 3D icons with 2Ds, thus expanding the variety of portraits by utilizing the additional Winter, Desert Camo and even the Mirrored unit icons.

It would great if you could actually show the real General's portrait on the HQ units.

Could there be a option for this in Strategic Command WWII War in Europe? If not in it's initial release, would you consider it in a future patch?

Once again, congrats on such a great game and I can't wait until Nov 17.

Angus
