Hi All

New on Here but not new to gaming. However I have just bought Command Modern Air/Naval Operations. And it looks amazing and just the sort of thing I want to get into. I missed the Harpoon games. I think the game is quite a big learning curve and I have yet to figure it all out. Can anyone suggest a good way to learn the game and the best scenario to get me started,

I also recommend the basic training 1983 air ops tutorial. Once I made it through that one several times the other tutorials went faster.
Not wanting to disturb FOW, I stayed away from true scenarios until the tutorials were more or less mastered. Take a look at Youtube videos. There are a lot covering just about every topic. Enjoy.

I started with the Air ops tutorial but it was a bit complex for me. Beside, apart from the name of the Air Wing, there was no Naval aspect in this scenario.
My advice would be to start with the pure naval scenario (you'll explore the basic of paths, sensors, SAM defence, Helos, land strikes, naval strikes etc...).

Then you can follow up with the Sub scenario, it's a much more "quiet" scenario. There you can take your time to check all of your sub's data before any action to start...

This game has a reputation of hard learning curve, because of the complexity of the subject (we're dealing with an almost profesional simulation of air/naval warfare) but In fact, in my opinion, it's not that hard provided you try to learn it by pieces, helped by the wonderful Scenario Editor.

I have played this game for 100+hours and i'm still flirting with low complexity and difficulty scenarios , but , in the meantime I'm designing test scenarios with some basic LUA scripting for my kid...

This game is a real wonder.Enjoy it !

It is called Air AND Naval. So should be no issue with the air tutorial.

Hello and welcome! Nice to see a new face around here.

As others have said, start with the tutorials, and Keep Asking Questions! For me, the first scenario I started with after the tutorials were Battle of Latakia, 1973 and Operation Wooden Leg, 1985.
Both are quite simple. The first teaches you about modern ship-to-ship combat, and the second about Missions, aerial refueling and ground attack.

Hi there i did the basic training tutorials first too then i think my first proper scenario was either En Garde or 688 Attack sub 4. You'll find yourself having to look things up on wikipedia to better understand weapons/sensors and air/naval tactics and its all part of the fun. The biggest scenario i've taken on so far has been Canarys Cage and it was epic, i won it first time and it felt rewarding after the amount of time i put into all the missions i created although after when i looked at it with the scenario editor, i realized i was lucky as some enemy air strikes didnt happen for whatever reason.
Been playing Command for about a year now on and off and i still feel like a newbie. I'd say the best tutorial that i found the most fun was English Jets Over Uganda (Uncle Marks tutorials part of the community scenario pack) and i have to say i prefer more air warfare scenarios over naval.

Thanks for the advice. Seems like a real friendly group here. I think my biggest problem is I just wanna jump right in. Need to slow down Take your advice and play those Tutorials a few times. Really looking forward to it though

I know the feeling. It's tempting to just jump right in and use all those cool units and weapons, but ultimately it's worth slowing yourself down, figuring out how to do things one at a time.
This way, you can then apply your skills to progressively more complex and difficult scenarios without feeling overwhelmed and frustrated.
Plus, for me, learning new things is one of the reasons why I love this game so much.

Once I learn a concept from a tutorial or a smaller sized scenario, I enjoy replicating the idea in the editor. Scaling up the concept seems to cement the learning for me.

Definitely start small and get used to handling a few units. If you are new, it's easy to get overwhelmed with larger scenarios.

Welcome aboard WORP! Good scenarios for beginning, besides mentioned, are also "Stand Up, 2011" and "Battle of Chumonchin Chan, 1950" from Standalone scenarios.
