Cute, using a long word meaning, 'given to or characterized by the use of long words', to describe long words. Are we being pedantic?

Picnic? Well you certainly get a mouthful going there.

That would be Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch - Welsh for dont talk with your mouth full of Welsh rabbit

That would be Welsh rarebit - it's just pronounced like "rabbit".

Here's someone who is not Welsh trying to pronounce those really long Welsh place names - c'mon man, spit it out!
And we are not being pedantic - just pediatric mixed with a bit of geriatric.

What was that great line in Blackadder about asking for directions in Wales?

And by looking up a certain word I fount this sentence...

The most common use of "antidisestablishmentarianism" is as an example of a sesquipedalian word.

A reseacher was in the local library researching the American Civil War. Reading Northern reports taken from Rebel POWs, he was trying to locate Aug Creek.
Finally he asked a local, who told him how to get to Hog Creek.

No, antisesquipedantic, which involves hopping around on one foot, trying to kick yourself in the butt with the other while spouting nonsense. Well played warspite1.

Oh, dear, I'm going to have to define that word for everyone. It is about sending Ralphie's dad, Old Man Parker, his major award to the wrong address in Northern California by expedited next-day-air.

Very useful word.

I just read this and it cracked me up. If you don’t know anything about William Howard Taft just do a google image search and you’ll understand. This is from Barbara Tuchman’s “The Proud Tower”.

Anxious to end the war [Spanish/Filipino/American War] and placate the “new-caught sullen peoples” and govern creditably, the Administration sent various committees to investigate the atrocities [committed by US troops], to find out what the Filipinos really wanted – short of self-government, which they said they wanted – and to report on what form of civil government to give them. In April, 1900, the shy, kindly, three-hundred-pound Judge William Howard Taft was sent out to set up a civil government, armed with a charter drawn up by the new Secretary of War, Elihu Root, which granted the Filipinos a liberal degree of internal autonomy. Since neither they nor the Americans were ready to give up fighting, the attempt was premature, but Taft stayed on, determined to govern in the interest of “the little brown brother” as soon as he was given a chance. When friends at home, concerned for his welfare, sent anxious queries about his health, he cabled Elihu Root that he had been out horseback riding and was feeling fine. “How is the horse feeling?” Root cabled back.

Yes I did. Thank you making me laugh for five straight minutes.

I wonder how I have missed this sketch. Maybe I was to young to get it, and simply forgotten seeing it.

He should have contributed to the Macy's parade riding a water buffalo. "Junior, do you see that? That's not a walrus riding a water buffalo, that's our President!" Junior: "Huh? the one with the horns?"

Welcome, after reading Root's comments I thought of that pic. Was there truth in his statement? Was Taft so hard on the horses that the Army fixed him something else to ride.
