Status: offline 		Yo, Obvert. Your list is great. But I note a serious omission. Books by Alvin Coox. He was/is a fundamental source/author for any serious student of the Asian conflict. Lots of your titles cite him as a primary reference. He is a serious historian of the old school. He is dense and informative, and perfect, but his style and focus doesn't comport with contemporary wanna-be imperitives because they ain't bright enough to figure out what he's saying. He's another one that is on the reading list for AIS, NIS, ISA.

To be honest when I do something here I haven't even checked to see if the books I've read and over are on it, yet!

Just trying to add what others have suggested over the years. nearly finished adding now and then I can have a look through and do some Amazon buying.

I'll add this if it's not there for sure.

Now I have studied and read and shadowed these forums since just before Christmas of 2015 and this is one thread I failed to come upon.

This is incredibly valuable in the "hobby sense".

I suspect many of the players also "hobby read" about the War (or Wars or History).

If the moderators dont deem it sticky material - perhaps it could be linked in the FAQ for Newbies in the War Strategies Forum????

... again I didn't see it there either and I was obviously not smart enough to simply search "book thread" which brings it up.

A very readable account of the exploits of the most famous US subs, using personal anecdotes from the crews to recreate dialogue and tactics used during the battles. Example: USS Wahoo reconning Wewak harbour by periscope:
Mush Morton at periscope: "We better turn around now, I can see the palm trees at high power."
Crew member:" Um, sir, you are at low power setting."
Mush Morton (switching to high power): Jesus Christ! I can see the coconuts! ALL ASTERN - back us out of here!

Status: offline 		Christmas ain't far away fellas. Time to start looking for stocking stuffers...

I don't know if it has been listed but I am reading Storm Over Leyte right now and it is excellent. Am roughly halfway thru and the telling of the Japanese planning for the Sho Operation, their changes to tactics, strategy, and hopes for the battle is very enlightening. After my terrible experience with The Most Dangerous Moment of the War, this has been quite refreshing. John Prados has usually been a pretty good author but this time he has outdone himself.

Status: offline 		For interested parties : Kaigun: Strategy, Tactics, and Technology in the Imperial Japanese Navy has become available in Kindle format.

For people like me who can not keep a personal room ( I lost mine to my daughter ) this is a good way to get books u like.

Now I'm waiting for Rikugun by Ness to become available on kindle.

Some of this is available free - vol I and II of the Amphibians Came to Conquer from the Marines. Much more WWII stuff is out there. For example the entire US Army Green Book series seems to be on the Army site.

Warships After Washingtonby John Jordan, from the Naval Institute Press is a look at how the signatories of the Washington naval treaty attempted to meet the limits of the treaty while still producing viable warships. The main focus is on design, with doctrine only mentioned in so far as it influenced design. As a fascinating bonus, there are 2 appendices with the full texts of the Washington and London naval treaties.
This is actually the first book I have read that explains the odd-sounding decision of the French to have all the main batteries on some of their capital ships in the front. It was adopted from a British design intended to reduce the size of the "citadel" and thus weight of armor.
I recommend it.

Heartily concur. EXCELLENT book. The section describing the Hybrid Cruiser--Carriers spun my Mods in a whole new direction. Very informative book.
