It's now November 5, 2016 - more than 1 1/2 years later - even as another holiday season approaches, and yet still no BAB II announcement anywhere along the horizon.

I confess I'm a little surprised (but not shocked, given the trials and tribulations of niche war gaming design and publishing), that a BAB sequel or major add-on had not been announced before today.

If nothing else, this is likely as good a time and place to add yet another shameless call and plug for:

Forge of Freedom II (incorporating latest BAB enhancements to ye olde tactical engine option).

In any case, and,

If it's not asking for too much candor and transparency, please, update / share with the BAB community here what may be anticipated or more likely may or may not be expected to be coming down the BAB II pike sooner now.

Thank you.

Since a Brother Against Brother sequel still keenly interests me and doubtless others, a simple status update, please.

Thank you.

Do the devs ever look at this forum
Just as bad as the No Mans Sky devs
they despaired as well
Looks as though you will be getting the same reputation
How humiliating is that

Yes it is frustrating, while there are still plans for another release the time frame is unknown and the lack of any attention does not enhance the reputation, reliability or believe ability of the developer. Frustrating also because the series has such truly great promise and could and should be among the best Civil War series there is.

yes, so do the mods and all those of who who loved the first one and are waiting for the second one, but like everyone keeps posting the same thing, Rome wasn't built in a day, games aren't thrown out one a year for every year either, the teams are small, some developers and projects are massive with great returns to match some times, these are triple A titles, war games tend to not be like this as most of you already know and understand, everything comes to those who wait, but yes i also know it's frustrating too, as i'd like to test it, but first it needs to be built and ready, so we all need to wait a while longer i'm sorry to say

The Roman Empire notwithstanding, I was just under the wrong impression, obviously.

I would have thought (or expected) a second BAB status update before now - if
not a release.

In any case, a discomfiting bit of silence coming out of this site from the design team.

Which suggests another conspiracy theory: The German hordes have somehow managed to turn history on its head,
so as to have already breached the walls of Rome even before they ever got built.

The German hordes & time travel, a good idea for a game, don't you think?

if you could alter one key fact and a given time period, what would the future events unfold into?

better or worse?

You must remember Rome wasn't built in a day, more like a century. Which might be the time line for next release too.

The devs must be so busy working on this game that they can't find the time to to reply to all of these comments

frustrating, maybe, but most don't know or get to see what is happening so agree it does seem that way at times, but as some of you know, they have just released a game on steam, and patched it, so are still working, maybe not at the speed of what some of you would like, but not sure what more i can say on the subject either

That game was Released: May 8, 2012 on this site
And you say they have just patched it
Wow at this rate we might get a response from the devs in about 4/5 years time
What hope have we of an update let alone a decent tutorial
Oh god

no i didn't say they had just patched it as such, just updated it to work on steam, so they had to alter it, so not a patch in the real sense of the word, just a play on words

Ha
Stop defending them
If they cant bother to find a little bit of their time to respond to the queries regarding their game then the deserve all the grief they get

The real problem is lack of customers. I am afraid we are a dying game segment. Unlike board games which also died out but people are still able to cheaply publish them for very high prices, computer based board games are expensive to develop. Board games now sell for hundreds of dollars to compensate for the lack of customers. PC games have not been able to pull that off. People are picky when paying just $50. They still remember getting well done games for less. Board gamers no longer remember the days of S&T publishing "free" games with their magazine and monster games for $50.

There are board games that can be played using PC software like Vassal but they are rather tedious since you must do so much of the work yourself. There are VR style games like the Take Command series but they don't work very well for PBEM.

The other killer for these games is the poor state of their AI. Playing against the computer is a waste of time. Yes, there are scenarios so one sided that the computer can win but that is rather boring style of play. If you play BAB's large scenarios on First Manassas you will win. You should always win since it is easy to exploit the AI. Some games allow you to handicap yourself so the Computer can win but that is rather pointless play too. You quickly get tired to playing an HPS civil war game against the computer when it charges you with limbered artillery.

I don't know the fix for this. I am afraid we of the PBEM Civil War are doomed to get only new scenarios to aging HPS/JT games every few years.

Thanks for your imput i welcome it
But my original gripe about this game was a lack a decent tutorial
I have been on about this for a while and am thankful for all the replys that i have had
BUT and its a big BUT all i was asking for was a response from the devs
There has been nothing whatsoever from them
That is why i am going on about it
How long will it take to type a few words in reply
Is it any wonder the sales are so small
People looking at this thread will more than likely be put off buying this game not only because of the price but also the lack of any response from the devs
They probably think what a waste of time buying this game when the game seems to be abandond

I appreciate what you are saying zakblood
But i dont want to see vids or twitch
all i was asking for was a tutorial that you can playthrough
It dosn't need to be long
Just how to show how things are done something that can be played over and over
Others seem to do short tutorials

fair point and very valid ones, sorry can't help, i played the game to death in beta testing it, and can honestly say i've still not had another one like it, for pure enjoyment, then again before this game, i only played WW2 ones, so was my first, have tried a few others since, but not as yet came close the the play ability of this one, but understand where you are coming from as well, as it's not the easist of games to pick up and play, but no way near one the hardest, or me it's in the middle, but yes needs some good reading skills used in the manual to really play and appreciative, and one of those game that only with time you can fully master, not saying i'm any good either, just for me it's enough of a challenge to keep me coming back and into a time period i'd previously not been or wanted to go to either.

Unfortunately, you are more or less right. Tutorials are developed for popular games. For games barely hanging in there, it is do your self learning with some help from the few people still reading these forums.

It is a chicken or the egg type question, would better tutorials bring more customers? But if there were more customers, then the company could dedicate more people to the game to write tutorials, post of forums, etc.

Yes our niche is certainly in the dregs compared to some others. Thankful to Matrix/S they are keeping releases coming anyway.

I was sent the latest INC Magazine for free. Check out the cover story on Riot Games, maybe online.

Never heard of it (I'm 60!) but the money involved is mind boggling.

The move toward high end expensive games like those developed by Riot Games is why we have no games. They aim for the twitch market that wants fast paced, high quality graphics games. All of which are based on the basic play theme of get the biggest gun/sword/etc you can, fire/hit as fast as you can, and run around a lot.

The type players that like these are young and willing to spend hours every day playing them.

Us old folks with our plodding 2D counter games just can't compete with them.

Think I will go on WW II Online: Europe and shoot a few Germans in frustration.:)
