1. I want to assign an invasion hex. I have the Amphib HQ and two infantry divisions in a "30" port hex. I click on the target button to assign a new hex destination. The target hex will not save. On pg 145 of the manual, it implies that this is what I have to do to start accumulating prep points. What am I missing?

2. Is there any benefit to manually assigning support units to a division, regiment, brigade rather just having the HQ close by? i.e. does the Hq automatically provide it's support units to the attack?

Directly assigned unit always will take part in the battle when parent unit is involved. Directly attached AA units add to AA fire when unit is bombed.

Units in HQ have to pass series of leader rolls (initiative) before they join the battle. AA units in HQs can't help distant units.

I wish I could delete this thread. I was looking so hard for the answer to #1, that I missed it.

I've had this game on my list for some time and this sale makes it look really good. The game description makes it sound like you have to pursue the historical Allied strategy (Sicily, Italy, France), but are alternatives allowed? Invasion of the Balkans or Norway, or France in 1943? If not, I'll save my money.

Also, how does the Operation Torch expansion fit in with the main game? Can one go from that to alternative strategies in the main game?

The Balkans and Norway are off map but France in 43 is a possibility. Where you invade in Italy or other on map areas is up to you. It's fun to try.

Torch has a number of North Africa scenarios but it doesn't have an earlier starting campaign. It does have a what if campaign with stronger Axis forces.

Thank you, Red Lancer, for your quick reply. I think I'll pass on this one. Operation Torch sounds like fun, but I think it requires the main game.
