I started the 39 scenario as Germany ran my turn clicked the end turn button The AI ran the allies advanced to September 8 then again to sept 15 Have I clicked the wrong button?

No, you didn't click the wrong button. Each side advances the time when their turn ends. A very odd choice for those of us used to turn based games where time only advances after both sides move, but you'll get used to it.
