Hello,

I try to play the game but it will not launch. I click on icon, The main menu launches, I click on "play war in the west" the game initially starts, the screen says war in the west/green bar fills up and then bang..I have a blue box in the middle of my screen with garbled up text on the right side of the blue box. I click on it and it just closes the game and crashes

Game is completely up to date and I've even tried the beta patch..

OS is win 10.

It looks like you it is missing data (art) files. Either installation is incomplete or corrupted or it is launched from wrong place.

Can you navigate to the folder the game is installed and try to launch it from the there?

If it is not launching correctly check if you have \dat\art\ folder with all images. One of the solution would be to reinstall the game. Make sure it is not installed under "Program Files" as it has known permission issues in W10.

It looks as corrupt installation (missing art) or any other reasons why exe is not able to locate them.

My initial suggestion is still valid.

Ok, I got the game working after a couple of re-installs..Fwiw here is what seems to cause this as far as I can determine. I have a 4k monitor and when I changed the display to what I believe is fullscreen in the preferences menu, that will cause the game to glitch out. Once I change this there is no going back the game is borked from that moment on.

After getting a successful re-install I started the game in 4k but the text is so small I cannot read it. So I have to launch the game/set my monitor to 1080p, then MANUALLY stretch the box out to fill the screen, as I pointed out above if I select the fullscreen in preferences it glitches the game out completely.

The PC is an Alienware 13 i5-5200u running WIN 10 with 16gb of ram. Hooked up to the PC is the Alienware graphics amplifier running a GTX 1070 which is hooked up via HDMI to a 4k TV for a monitor. I havent experienced this in any other game I run which caused my difficulty in remedying this problem.

It also seemed the game would not completely uninstall when I ran the WIN uninstall program. Which seemed to not fix anything when I was trying the first few reinstalls. I went back and manually deleted the folder and few files. After multiple re-install attempts I got it to work as stated above, then again attempted to select the fullscreen mode which again caused the problem. This occurs every time I do that and is easily recreatable.

Thanks to Helpless and others with diagnosis and for anyone else that may currently or in the future have this issue try the above.

Thanks,

Thanks for the report.

Indeed running in 4K might have issues with font sizes. It is possible to adjust fonts in the game by editing dat\WitwFontConfig.txt. (editor manual 7.2 page 42).

As for crashing in 4K fullscreen, I'll try to arrange some tests on that. I never heard of any issues on this.
