So I'm playing the 39 campaign as Axis, and apparently can not purchase any Field Artillery. That seems odd, what's the deal here?

Is there an asterix next to the info details? Some units can only be purchased after a certain date. If you can post a screenshot we might get a better look at what's going on.

Actually the Field artillery unit is not even in the list. Not for Germany and Italy.

Looking at the other side of the fence, no Field artillery for the allies also. Is this unit even exists? It is in the manual.

They don't come as standard in the base game, but Field Artillery can be easily added using the editor.

You can purchase Heavy Artillery starting out. The way I always understood it is artillery abstracted in that each combat formation has its own intrinsic field artillery already in the unit (part of the CV for that unit). Heavy Artillery is more or less the dedicated unit that adds extra fire support and used for sieges of cities and busting through fortified positions more easily, i.e. 150mm+ guns for Germans, 155mm Long Toms for U.S. etc.

Doesn't the North African units you get from the event include a field artillery unit?

Isn't it just a heavy artillery unit?

The DAK artillery is field artillery (2 shells), its the only one you can get.

Ah, ok - I wasn't even aware, though I subconsciously noticed the 2 shells at one point ...
