Army Group North

In the North Germany begin to close in on the Major City of Leningrad. Russian Armies are ill matched against the swarm of German forces. North of Leningrad Finnish infantry are attempting to besiege and recapture the town of Vyburg which was lost in the winter war. We will be hard pressed but I attempt is to reach the gates of Leningrad before winter sets in.

Army Group Center

Germany captures Smolensk this turn en route to Moscow. Hungarian infantry break away from Army Group South and begin to move Northward to support the capture of small towns South West of the Russian Capital. A stubborn Tank formation has slowed our march North of the Pripyat Marshes, and has drawn a considerable amount of units towards it's destruction.

Dnepropetrovsk has been occupied by German forces after intensive fighting for the city, though considerable Russian infantry are still entrenched behind the Dnepr River holding near the city of Zaporizhia. We have also captured the city of Kharkov.

Spain

Spanish forces which have reaped the benefits of German and Italian support prior to joining the Axis continue to dominate the British forces. Franco is closing in on port of Porto (I'm not making this up that's what it's called) which should severely hamper the British, leaving Lispon as the only other source of naval transport.

North Africa

Axis forces continue to hold at El Agheila awaiting the Greek Armies to arrive. A large Greek/Italian/German offensive is looming.

The Clodius Agreement

Turkey is currently Allied leaning 37% but no matter, just like Portugal (in my mod) Germany can trade with Turkey no matter her leaning.

However, I believe I have encountered my first major scripting error. Bulgaria must be in Axis hands for the materials to flow to Germany. But as the Balkan's were heavily shaken up by Greece being persuaded to sign the Tripartite Pact, Bulgaria has not joined the Axis, instead leaning heavily towards USSR. The real reason I have not attacked Bulgaria is because Turkey would swing heavily allied as a defensive reaction. So even if I select "Yes" I will not get my MPP bonus due to Bulgaria's neutral status.

I just fixed this on my side, (instead ensuring only that there are no Allied units with 5 hexes of Sofia (capital) rather then checking Sofia's alignment (occupier status) to allow German/Turkish trade to move through Bulgaria in a case where Bulgaria remains truly non-belligerent. It seems plausible that Bulgaria would not want to risk intervention here given her proximity to war in Europe and would allow the trade of goods between Germany and Turkey. I could always declare war on Bulgaria, and occupy the capital but that will really upset neighboring Turkey. So for this match I will have to select no unfortunately. A shame as Turkey is the highest overland trade partner at 30 MPP per turn to Germany.

And that's the fun of making a user made scenario!

Eastern Front

No major gains this turn.

Spain

The battle for Porto continues as the majority of Spanish forces concentrate their attacks in Northern Portugal.

North Africa

Italian Mobile Infantry are routed as El Agheila. The Greeks without motorization and poor supply are slow to arrive at the front lines.

In the South the weather is beginning to get worse and is slowing our advance. Army Group Center has Moscow in it's sights.

Eastern Front

Winter has taken it's grip on the Eastern Front and it is unlikely I will make any more meaningful gains until winter thaw. A full recap of the Eastern Front next turn to come.

Spain

Spain has captured Porto in Northern Portugal. The British had been massing troops to protect the port but have been gradually wore down by Spanish Armour.

The USA has joined the war! Both the British and USSR national morale is bolstered by this news, and the Americans immediately begin shipping supplies to the USSR via Persia.

The Atlantic

There was a significant reduction in the raiding capabilities of our Atlantic Fleet in the first half of 1941, but with a relatively well supplied raiding fleet at sea we are well positioned to continue momentum into early 1942. To date only one German unit, a Battle Cruiser has been sunk (by Carrier North of France). There are currently 9 German U-boat Groups, 2 German surface raiders and the Italian BETASOM submarine group which was deployed from Bordeaux operating in the Atlantic. With the recently capability to sink up to 100 MPP per turn (see chart below).

Spain

The British acting alone attempted a mass invasion of Spain, declaring war in June 1941 just after Germany had begun crossing the border into Russia. Spain, bolstered by military exports from Italy and Germany in 1940 which resulted in an additional Tank Group, Corps and Garrison unit have been able to withstands the British invasion and have since recaptured one of the two Portuguese ports the British have access to, and in December with assistance from Italian Allies have also captured Gibraltar, essentially cutting off the Allies from Atlantic access to the Mediterranean.

North Africa

Where as the British have faltered in the invasion of heavily Axis leaning Spain, they have more then made up for in North Africa. Commonwealth forces have destroyed Rommel on the battlefield, and have commanded control of the sky. Greek Armies have been dispatched to El Agheila to try to thrust the Axis forces back onto the offensive in the region. North Africa has proven to be a very expense endeavor for Germany.

The Mediterranean

Even though Italy was able to sink 1 of 2 known UK Carriers in the Mediterranean in 1941, the British had decisively won the Battle at sea sinking 3 of Italy's 4 Battleships. Greek and Spanish Heavy Cruisers, as well as German U-Boats which were redirected from the Baltic have since arrived in the Adriatic Sea. The Italians are waiting to upgrade their naval units and now with the capture of Gibraltar will attempt to win the next decisive battle for naval superiority in the Mediterranean.

Finland

In Northern Finland the "Engelbrecht" Division which was transferred from Norway to Finland by Swedish rail, has captured the town of Monchegrorsk and in December 1941 have in coalition with Finnish Forces begun an attack to isolate Murmansk from the Russian Army. Without HQ support I can only hope to wear down the local defense, and then turn towards Murmansk.

Army Group North

We have arrived at the gates of Leningrad, and although a solid defensive line holds south of the city we consider our objective met. Capturing Leningrad will free up a number of forces and will be a huge blow to Russians.

Finnish Forces led by General Mannerheim have not yet been successful in recapturing Vyborg. If the towncan be captured the Finns should be able to march to Leningrad to support the siege.

In the South our objective of capturing Rostov has fell well short. We have however Captured Kharkov and the City of Kursk (upper right) could easily have fallen had weather permitted. Army Group South's main objective in 1942 is the capture of Stalingrad and secondly the capture the Caucasus oil fields.

North Africa

The war in North Africa has grown to epic proportions due to the British massing their air fleets. The Greek Army has proven unable of changing the Axis tide of fortunes. I have redirected German Fighters and Bombers from the winter conditions of Russia to try and level the playing field, as well have sent additional Italian forces to Tripoli and a German HQ (Kesselring) has arrived in Italy for transport to Tripoli to take over command of the German forces in the region. I do not believe I can commit anything further to the North African "killing fields."

Thanks, hopefully I will find some decisive victories in the East this coming year. The holiday season has kept me from the game for over a week, I haven't been able to work on the mod or play. Hopefully I get some free time soon to pick it up! The mod itself has changed a lot since I've started this round. I now have Finland and Romania as minor Majors for example and have removed Poland.

The British are soundly defeated as it looks like only mop up duties remain for Franco's Army. With Gibraltar under Axis control I have taken the opportunity to move part of the German fleet into the Mediterranean to join the Naval force grouped in the Adriatic Sea. My hope is if I can regain naval superiority in the Mediterranean I may yet be able to beat the British in North Africa.

North Africa

Untimely weather in North Africa has impeded my ability to move the German Luftwaffe across the Mediterranean to safety so I have no choice but to hastily declare war on Tunisia, luckily German paratroopers were in position to support the DOW and have destroyed the defending Corps at Tunis. I moved some remaining ground units across the Tunisian border to secure ground for my aircraft to land. I fear Gariboldi may not be able to escape the British Armour storming across the desert.

The UK has also annexed Syria this turn.

Heavy fighting continues in and around Leningrad as the Russians have committed sizable forces to the defense of the city. 2 German HQs and 2 Tank Groups are pounding the defenders South of Leningrad and Russian forces are being decimated.

Army Group South

Rostov is captured. The Russians are beginning to form continuous defense lines behind the Don Major River.

Army Group Center

Model (HQ) who has been chosen to lead the offensive against Moscow continues to destroy the fortifications (and the occupying units) West of the capital. Von Bock (HQ) has arrived at Kursk to lead a Northern push towards Moscow where Hungarian forces have stalled. North West of Moscow Yugoslavian have capture the town of Rzhev.

Tripoli will soon fall to the Commonwealth forces. In hindsight my missed opportunity to meet the Allies head on in the air was my downfall in Libya. Now I have strong air assets on the wrong side of the Mediterranean of which could be better served in Russia.
