Actually, for now I bought WitPAE. And based on my short tutorial play, it's a very good game. It is also very, very different from WitE.
The hex sizes, which I was concerned about, doesn't really compare in the two, as in WitPAE the player plans operations to and from points on the map (a simplification). It's not pushing chits around at all.

The WeGo system seems super solid and the game gives me the possibility to delve deeeeep into the different details about everything, plan my moves/operations and launch them. I love the fact one can do plans which run over many many turns.

Only thing that is a bit of a challenge is the map/resolution. On a 15" laptop with 1920x1080 it's a bit tough on the eyes, even with clearer map mods. I could lower the resolution, but then the map itself would not look as beautiful. (I'm a graphics man, what can I say ;)

As XXXCorps says, get into mods. They add so much more to these games. I am playing a game of WitE (and doing miserably, it's my first campaign game!!) but the mods I am using increase the enjoyment immensely!!

Edit: Oh, and I know I am in the minority on this, but I have a 42 inch Tv as my monitor. Yeah, the resolution isn't as great, but I have no trouble reading anything.

Jison's Map Mod for WITE is a must have.

The link is in the second post. It's a fantastic map and adds so much to the game over the stock map.

That is an incredible map! One of the reasons I have not bought WitPAE is that I am way under-whelmed with its graphics, esp the map...even the map mods are not very good (but better than the stock). When/if WitPAE goes on sale for $19.99, I'll buy it.

Matrix should hire Jison for ALL their maps!

god bless jison!

And many thanks to you, Chemkid

For those who don't know him, Chemkid made a stunning map for WitP AE: the one I and others use.

On principle, everyone -and I mean everyone- deserves respect, but given that this is a games forum, those who improved a game and shared this improvement with other players, deserve utter respect and gratitude.

Yes, thanks, chemkid for all your contributions to the hobby.

I use your maps in WITPAE and also in Campaigns on the Danube.

there would be very few modders left to duke it out with jison and come up with something 'better'...

god bless jison!
(... and give him some spare time to tackle all the games out there still left without his mark ...)

Another to Chemkid and jison...I use their maps for WiTp:AE and WiTE and couldn't go back to playing stock maps...(and Chemkid has a dozen? or so options, all beautiful maps, I use the Sunny Day No hex version...)

Cheers,

Chemkid's map mods for WitP:AE is one of the reasons I picked it up in this case. Just amazing work. Installed the rainy day -one for WitE too.

In WitP:AE I use the Topo map mod as it's a bit more "realistic" looking than the others. But it really makes a difference on clarity and playability, even.

Thanks!!!
