Japan is beaten in the historical sense, but witpqs promised us he would clear all the red dots off the map by 1946!

That is because doing the Japanese turn is so much easier now than the beginning of the game. So few LCUs to move, no ground attacks to plan, targets are concentrated for bombing missions, so few targets to defend from the air. not much of any fleet to use and no worries about transporting RESOURCES!

adarbrauner,

It's about far more than a win-lose-draw outcome. We're enjoying the journey, working through the invasion of the Home Islands, playing through a lopsided end-game scenario. Look at all the AARs out there - having an auto-vic screen appear in the first half of 1945 is not exactly an earth shattering achievement. We are now more than 5 years into this PBM. It's not exactly like setting up an end-game position in chess!

Yes, getting that auto-victory is not always fun. My last game as Allies ended on 1 January 1943.

So, I am trying the dark side where I plan on saving the game at certain points. Then I can decide to switch sides from there while I continue with other plans. Think of allowing any excess CEA troop to participate in an invasion of the Northern resource area if all of the Chinese bases have been captured and all cities are properly garrisoned. The Soviet air forces will not be able to stand against the IJA air capabilities and will quickly run out of pilots.

Supplies are a serious problem and seem to not be getting any better. Both armoured units will attack tomorrow, but with supply production within Urumchi I fear the Imperials will be well fed and stocked with ammo. If things go badly we shall have to set up a supply airlift.

The convoys and escort carrier groups are departing from Daito Shoto. The large carriers and most of the surface combat ships are departing from Okinawa. Tokyo is seen to have more than 1,200 aircraft, including more than 600 bombers. The job of the B-29 groups (all types, all are on Hokkaido) and the B-24 groups (almost all are also on Hokkaido) will be the almost impossible task of closing Tokyo airfield complex. Tomorrow Rain is forecast, but the fleet will be out of range anyway. The day following, the bombers will have to find their targets regardless of weather. With hundreds of our own fighters sweeping and escorting it will likely be the largest air battle of the game.

We have had a surprisingly un-bloody air game! Plenty of carnage there, of course, but not nearly what many people see. I've tried hard to manage the Allied aircraft pools so what was needed for offensive operations would be available when those operations took place. Maybe that's been the driver, but I'm just guessing.

Supply has begun to flow in response to base pull requests. A greater relief is that the enemy has proven to be poorly enough equipped that our forces will prove sufficient. With the tankette Co there it is good that we have armoured forces: the cavalry unit still enroute would have been overmatched. Disruption is pretty low in the 11th and 2/11th but they will rest for at least a day due to the extreme distances to any reinforcements should we get too enthusiastic. Our cavalry unit is abour 6 days out.

China frontier.
Resistance in the forest in front of the river looks to be light so the first units that have arrived will attack tomorrow.

Home Islands east.
Some surface groups and several carrier groups of the invasion fleet have been spotted, but none of the convoys. Still enough for Imperial defenses to stand to, so tomorrow should be most eventful.

Air losses. A hard day in the air even with small casualties. The Imperials still have many fine pilots and we are training people to catch up.

I have the replay back but not the turn, as this will be one of those "turn of a thousand clicks" for Walter, probably due to the air strikes against Tokyo. To whet your appetite: Manila is secured, further progress at Shanghai, victory in the forest in Manchuria, the fleet is safe, and over Tokyo a great victory was won (as the Oracle predicted). Here are the (non-zero) casualty lines from the various air combat reports concerning Tokyo.

That is a lot of combat reports.

With all of those airbase and runway hits, do you think that the airbases are shut down? There are also lots of damaged aircraft as well. Hopefully he will rail them all to Tsu to get fixed.

With all of the damaged aircraft that you have, do you think that you will be able to launch more airstikes with enough forces to put another big hurt on his airunits?

Wait ... you aren't using the one they call The Red Witch are you? Was she wearing a pendant?? Did she like to stare into fire? Do you have an anti-beheading collar on?

Hard to say. There were fumes and lots of wind, and a headache afterwards.

Are you referring to what the US Marines used to wear to protect their necks?

quote:

Leatherneck: The nickname Leatherneck has become a universal moniker for a U.S. Marine. The term originated from the wide and stiff leather neck-piece that was part of the Marine Corps uniform from 1798 until 1872. This leather collar, called The Stock, was roughly four inches high and had two purposes. In combat, it protected the neck and jugular vein from cutlasses slashes. On parade, it kept a Marine's head erect.
