Ships can withdraw at any of the capital cities. They do not have to be off-map. Sydney works, Trincomalee works, etc. So yes, British ships can withdraw from India, Oz, NZ. I withdrew the British CVs at Sydney in my PBEM, for instance.

PH and Pago Pago are not home bases though and ships cannot be withdrawn from them. US national home bases would be those located on the mainland: East Coast, Los Angeles, San Francisco... But if we're talking about USN ships in SoPac, again these can be withdrawn from Sydney, etc. Nationality doesn't matter. It just has to be a "national home base."

Hope this helps. I'm sure someone else can give you a precise definition of what national home base actually means.

You are confused because the list is "National Home Bases" (or alternates if the home base is in enemy hands) plus any level 9 base. So PH does not qualify but a built-up LA does. SFO is the national home base for the US. Vancouver for Canada. I am not sure about Columbo - it would qualify once it gets to level 9 but before that I think Bombay might be the go-to base. Karachi is a National Base.
You can tab between the main national bases by clicking on the little flag symbol at the top right of the game screen, next to the credits.

Question

for

The War College

I suspect some members of The War College might think the question I pose herein is a stupid question. It may very well be. However, I prefer to be safe than sorry.

Example: Several Australian units accept an invitation from several Japanese units to get hammered on Saki together in Hex A. One of the Australian units forgot their weed so they cross over a river into a solely occupied Allied Hex B.

Question: Will the drunk Australians that remained behind with the drunk Japanese in Hex A suffer a shock attack?

Best Regards,

-Terry

If your opponent orders a shock attack, you will get one.
Your unit that left the hex did not cross the river into enemy territory so there is no shock attack there.
The unit that remained behind did not cross a river so there is no automatic shock attack.

BBfanboy-

Thanks.

That is what I figured, but wanted to make sure.

I am trying to move Allied forces through his bases to control hex-sides.

Happy Holidays to the Gentlemen of War College,

In scant moments between eating brunch and preparing dinner I here gather the Greatest Hits of my current collection of Rockin' Ignorance:

1. I have a fully-supplied AS Sperry in Kodiak. I have an SS with 0 SYS 41 FLT 1 ENG. I understand the game limitations of AS re floatation, but I am merely trying to get the SS to scroll "Repair Ship" in the repair options. Disbanded, docked or undocked, the AS does not appear. Where am I going wrong? (As a side-note, I served on a ASR that was often outboard of AS Sperry and I happen to know that, while it couldn't substitute for dry dock, that machine shop worked wonders—in reality, that SS floatation would be down to 20 and falling in a week, tops.)

Anyway, we plan on having many support ships in forward bases for the upcoming operation, and it'd be nice to understand what I have to do to make them functional.

2. I am going to try to extract Det B Srv ENG from Kanchitka (320 troop, 0 cargo) with submarines. Argonaut (troop 110, cargo 72) is sailing there, and will link up with 4 SS (cargo 48 x 4). Obviously, any boat that loads cargo is doing the garrison no favors, but how do I get the troop load aboard? Conversely, can Argonaut remove them in discreet parts for quick shuttles to Kodiak, and thus reunited? Or is this endeavor doomed to failure?

3. In the upcoming operation, we plan on using CMs as emergency minelayers, in cases of hasty retreat. Under "Ammo", in the mine category, it has an *—e.g., "75 (75*). What is the * significance?

Additionally, is there a feature in which one can dispense large amounts of mines over multiple hexes?

I thank you, Gentlemen, for any help you might provide,

I wish you and yours the best,

Hag

BURMA 125

March 12, 1943

El Lobo has a minimum of 125 Japanese Ground Force units in Burma (includes 5 units one hex West of Paoshan).

For the moment, Magwe is cut off from getting oil to Rangoon. I suspect that will not last too long. 17 Japanese units are now at Prome. El Lobo will probably move some of these units to Hex 56,49 (one hex Northwest of Toungoo). El Lobo already has 14 units in Hex 57,49 (one hex Northeast of Toungoo). I think El Lobo will attempt to shove the Allies out of hexes 56,49 and 57,49 to open the roads south to Rangoon.

A map of the Burma Conflict is below.

Dear Evil Emperor El Lobo-

You have bombed the Chungking Runway almost every single day for one year.

The present elevation of the Chungking Runway is now lower than Death Valley. In honor of the brave Chinese that built the runway, we have renamed the Chungking Airport and Runway the Death Valley Airport and Runway.

We do not know why you choose to keep bombing The Death Valley Runway. We do not have any aircraft. If we had aircraft, we would not be able to lift-off as the runway has been and remains completely inoperable. If the runway was operable and if we had aircraft, we could not lift-off as we have zero fuel. If the runway was operable, we had aircraft, and we had fuel, we could not lift off as we have no supply.

Accordingly, go F_ _ _ yourself.

Yours truly,

Me No Fly,
Airport Minister
Death Valley Airport
Chungking

A bit of an Ooops!

A minor breach of Allied intelligence has occurred. The good, benevolent, tight-lipped Admiral (ummm, me) drafted an email to Captain Haggard and accidentally sent the email to El Lobo. The email was entitled "Scotch Material." The substance of my email is in green. The substance of El Lobo's response is in red. Plans remain unchanged. Operation Sea Shark remains scheduled to lift off from Pearl on June 1, 1943 with amphibious landings on the four Southern Marianas Islands on or about June 15, 1943.

Commander-

Our Carrier force sits one hex East of Ramree Island for an extended period of time to provide LRCAP for amphibious landings.

What if El Lobo steams battleships and cruisers to one hex East of Ramree Island?

Your pal,

-Admiral

P.S. I'm glad that you're getting excited about Operation Sea Shark.

Commander Tu,

I think you had a little too much scotch before you dreamed this scheme.

There are a couple of flaws with plan Operation Shark Food. The first is you thinking that I would believe you in the first place.

The others, well let's give it a try and find out. * laughing *

Your Bud,

EE

TOP SECRET (please keep this "Ooops" within The War College)
