The Luftwaffe pull back in the Soviet Union... and that gives the Red Army a chance to pounce.

The Soviets have entered East Prussia! Hitler and co decide that the Wolf's Lair is no longer viable as an HQ and they hotfoot it back to Berlin....

The 3rd Panzerarmee have been completed bypassed and encircled by the first elements of what shall be a new Front; The 1st Polish Front. 7th and 8th Shock Armies, supported by two rifle corps and a light tank corps, take Memel and threaten Tilsit. The latter appears guarded by Luftwaffe units only.

There was a reverse however to the southeast when 1st Tank Army, seeking to link up with 8th Shock (and at the same time encircle Kaunas) ran into the German II Infantry Corps and received a bloody nose.

However, this was a good turn and Konigsberg is now firmly in Soviet sights...

..and the hits keep on coming...

Just south of the above post, the Soviets are just 4 hexes from Warsaw. An uprising takes place in the Polish capital, although there is nothing that the Soviets can do to assist.

The really annoying German in Minsk reinforced, so it still hanging around like an incredibly bad smell...

In the south the Soviets achieved their encirclement at Uman quicker than expected, bagging another 4 Axis units in the process.

2nd Guards Army and 3rd Shock Army meanwhile bear down on Vinnitsa - another HQ that the Fuhrer will no longer be needing.....

Italian fortunes continue to nose dive. What was is Il Duce said? "I only have to bring a few thousand dead to the table to claim my spoils"....

"Hey Mussolini, you know that New Roman Empire you wanted?"

So while the Soviets have been busy reclaiming East Ukraine and beginning the task of conquering East Prussia and Poland; the US have been sending convoys over to the UK and capturing Tripoli, what have the Commonwealth forces been doing. Or in modern parlance, "Where day at?"

Well day at.. I mean the Commonwealth have been busy regrouping and then making Crete one giant airfield. The lead elements of an invasion task force are at sea with a view to landing in Greece.

The British have no idea of fighting through the Balkans, the plan is to build a base in Southern Greece from which the heel of Italy can be invaded.

At sea in the North Atlantic the U-Boats make their presence felt. One is found and attacked but dives. The other is too far south for my destroyers to catch.

Meanwhile back in lil' ol' Englandsville, the big build up for the second front continues.

A couple of US and Canadian units suffered from rough seas en route to the UK

The 1st Vistula Front continue on and invest Konigsberg. More German units are asking to be pocketed too.

Back in Moscow Stalin is at work on important matters...

[Stalin] So Molotov, what shall we re-name Konigsberg when we have taken it?
[Molotov] Well we have Leningrad and Stalingrad... how about Molotovgrad?
[Stalin] Perfect. We shall call it Kalliningrad
[Molotov] Kallingrad. Yes that's nice, that's what I was about to suggest....

To the south the Germans make a very strange decision. The corps defending the fortress of Brest-Litovsk decides to abandon the fortress and head for Pinsk.... as you do.

Once again the Germans are caught out by a combination of too few units and an inability to retreat quickly enough. The Soviet lead elements breakout from Uman - the Axis units in their path are not going to hold them for long....

Let's take a quick look at the loss returns. I think this will be sufficient to spoil Adolf's day....

Right, things are getting a bit samey here. So, I am not going to post the pictures of this turn. Also the Soviets are not going to move forward next turn (I am also going to consider withdrawing further units).

What I am keen to do is get an Amphibious landing going as I do not really know what to expect. I should have used long range transports for the Greek invasion

Next turn the British should be in a position to land - fingers crossed!

The Commonwealth troops land in Greece. Canadian and British armoured forces have tenuous lodgements south and northeast of the capital, but the main landings at Patras and Kalamata have gone well. Airbases have been established and additional troops are at sea and on their way.

I genuinely think that the Soviets could end it in early 1944 they way they are going. They are 10 hexes from Berlin!

But I would like to see what the British and Americans can do. So because of [insert whatever reason] the Soviets are halting their drive east.

The British 10th Army take Corfu to set up an advanced base for the invasion of the heel of Italy. The unit in Athens is proving...tough.

The Americans (2nd Army), sailing from Tripolitania, invade the heel of Italy, while the British WDF Army, sailing from Cyrenaica, invade Calabria to stop reinforcements coming back from Sicily.

The plan was not for the British to head through the Balkans but there appears to be little in Greece or Albania to stop them at present....

Okay so one more turn with the Soviets not moving - we'll then restart.

Italians are really unimpressed with Il Duce given the landings in Southern Italy and the invasion of Albania.

I am really pleased I tried this out with the Western Allies - this is good experience of what not to do. I've had no real plan, my HQ's are all over the place - as are my units - its all a bit of a mess and I think I've been saved by the fact there were few units in Greece and initially in Italy.

As can be seen, with my attack on the mainland going nowhere, I've double-backed into Sicily....

One other point of course. This would have been impossible to done if the Italians still had their fleet in being. The liberties taken with the transports and amphibs sailing alone, could not have been taken.

u actually can lunch stay in port then move and land effectively negating the fleet.. not the best but..
When
Italy falls all italy becomes Allied territory, an error I think, and in my recent game Greece switched over, as It was Italian conquest, became Allied and created an army!1 nice,

Okay so the Soviets are now back in the game... and that's not good for the Germans...

Firstly, 7th and 8th Shock Armies take Konigsberg with the 3rd Light Tank Corps liberating Danzig.

3rd Army's resistance in Jelgava ends, and this allows 54th Army and the 18th Rifle Corps to move on Ventspils and set about ending 2nd Hungarian Army's resistance at the southwestern end of the Gulf of Riga.

Having the Advanced Tank 2 upgrade certainly helps as the 1st Hungarian Army, defending Grodno, starts to find out.

German pockets of resistance remain in Kaunas, Grodno, Pinsk and Gumbinnen, but these should soon be cleared and the Soviets will be able to completely clear East Prussia and be back in northwestern Poland....

I assume German forces are on the west bank of the Vistula?

With the last German resistance being ended in Kirovgrad and Nicolayev, the Red Army appears like one unstoppable brown mass descending upon southern Poland and Romania....

in my game, I suddenly found quite a powerful German defense on the Oder. Not sure if this was generated by the AI or by event but it added a bit of spice to the final battles around Berlin.
