I have been very pleased with this game up to now, do have some concerns, I would like a programmer of this game either Bill or Hubert explain to me in layman language how they arrive at replacing destroyed Russian units.

I will admit I rarely get past June of 1943 as I am usually bogged down with no hope of winning this game as the Axis, I hear some posters say they win with no problem and I accept this but I would love to hear how they do it

For example in the Russian build column with soft builds turned off there are 63 Russian ground units available, tanks and infantry.

As of march 1943, 96 Russian units have been destroyed, I counted 53 Russian ground units that I could see in the game in contact with Axis troops, I decided to turn off FOW and there was another 22 ground units in the game, that means there were 75 Russian ground units in the game.

Far more than I had, what happened to the 63 no soft build limit for the Russians, now if I was conspiracy freak I would think that the AI was fudging a little, thank the lord I am not, but I would love an explanation how the AI gets all these extra units that I do not get, I am sure there is a very logical reason

Still like the game, would like it better if I had a chance to win.

You will win, Bo, if you want to. If your desire is great enough then you will endeavor to accumulate the level of knowledge necessary to make "it" happen.

This is not supposed to be easy, unless you play the "easy" conditions. This is a game, a puzzle, a goal with an unknown path of achievement, it is supposed to be entertaining.

Approach it with that attitude, and if you accomplish that goal, you have the perseverance, then the attainment of the goal will be most worthy.

The game is accurately reflecting the Russians ability to put very large numbers of new units in the field at very short notice Not only were they well organised to do this but unlike the Germans they had a much larger pool of trained manpower which was the result partly of their greater population (double that of the Third Reich) but also importantly a reflection of their scope to continue a conscript programme throughout the inter-war period unlike Germany which was restricted by the provisions of the Versailles treaty and only reverted to a conscript army in the mid-thirties after Hitler came to power.

I can't remember the exact words but there are two famous quotes from Franz Halder the Chief of Staff of the Germany army. One a fortnight into Barbarossa where he is agreeing that it certainly looks like the Russians have been totally defeated given the great victories achieved by that date. The second is made a few weeks later when he is pessimistically commenting on the fact that 350 Russian formations (or whatever the figure was) have been seen in the field, far more than the Germans had expected when the campaign started and each time the Germans destroyed a dozen or so, another dozen replaced them, maybe less well trained and equipped but still able to oppose the German advance.

If you haven't done so already why not play a game as the allies so you can see what things are like from the Russian viewpoint. Also you could try playing the Axis with the easy option on to give you a better chance until you feel more confident in taking on the Russians. You can change options at any turn so you could change this during a game.

As always, thank you James, just not sure how worthy I am

Ironclad no argument here but I was just wondering if the programmers are taking this into consideraton to put all these extra Russian into the field, if they are then fine I will have to live with it, or is that "DIE" with it

Bo, something that always worked for me when i wanted to become more competent at playing a game was to get one of the Beta-testers to play me.

Asking questions, trying different moves, getting their feedback, usually gave me a better incite into the gaming idiosyncracies.

Of course I always lost, but that goes with the territory, no ego here.

The developers haven't done anything to add 'extra' units to the Soviet side. The computer and human Soviet player have MPP's to spend like any other country. However, the Soviets can build more and they are cheaper to build.
Wherever they pop up, destroy them whenever you can. It is better strategy to destroy one Soviet unit rather than cause five Soviet units casualties.

Bo, I've had three complete games so far. My first Axis win came in 1947 with under 10 turns left. My next Axis game ended in victory in December of 1944. My only Allied victory came in Dec 1943. The point I'm trying to make is that the more you play the game the more you learn. I'll have to move to the next level up I guess but I'm really waiting on the multiplayer. The game will really come into its own when playing another player. Nothing will go the way you expected it would after only playing the AI :) When the multiplayer is live I'd love to play you a game.

Hi

Regarding the Build Limits, units that arrive by script e.g. the Red Army's forces that deploy on the border when they enter the war, via Decision Events during the game, or the transfer from Siberia, are not restricted by these limits.

The AI may also receive some extra units to enable it to effectively ignore locations that otherwise it would worry about, and combined with the above this should explain why the actual number of units it has can at times be more than the Build Limit.
