Frederikshaven is ablaze. OKW notes that Danish dispositions make a single-impulse overrun impossible?

Good set-up again, Keith (Poland too, but I undermanned the E Front.)

Only the second game I've played not against myself (which can never be satisfactory, really); have to say, am enjoying it very much. The challenge will come when combats become more complex and we have to find windows in our respective time zones.

Critical commentary from the community remains very welcome. Another pleasure of the game so far.

Still, 3 cps look likely to join "the enemy."

Italian transport ships make their way through the Suez canal and embark an Italian army corps from Asmara.

It may be the Allies are pursuing a strategy of getting USA into the war as quickly as possible. Alternatively, they have other plans which risk losing US Entry Chits. If so, well done for sticking to the plan but as CW I don't think I could have resisted a DoW on Italy to trap the TRANS and INF on the wrong side of Suez.

Me neither!!!!

Bait. And tasty. Hope I can get it out of there lol.

Unless the Italians move something else of a sea-going nature, that should be achievable. The CP might have problems, although the prize may not be worth the DoW now so you could be in the clear.

The Italian X Infantry Corps is delighted to be home at La Spezia. Soldiers are given a fortnight's leave after their African tour of duty. What a great guy Il Duce is. So stylish, and humane.

Japan rails the Tokyo Militia from Peking to Nanking.

Umezu wanted this unit. But Japan does not yet control SE China's rail network.

The Wehrmacht's 3rd Division hops into Copenhagen, a motorized Corps enters Aarhus.

Danish cruisers are forced to rebase to Frederikshaven, but the Germans can keep moving and meet them there.

The rolls are not good for the Allies. Only 2 cp make it to Edinburgh.

(Keith nominated Scapa, where the cps could not stack with the Polish refugees, and then any British port.)

Why wasn't half the Danish navy based in Iceland? Standard Danish setup.

I'm getting the impression that there are two newbies fighting eachother. So let's change this remark in:

Next time: set up as many convoy points you can in Iceland or the FarOes Islands. It's wise to do so, since the CW needs the shipping...

Lol

I'm a newbie for sure, by the standards of you guys.

I had the board game in the 90s. Played it against myself for the want of a partner and got to sometime in 1943 before I was defeated by the sheer complexity and loneliness.

Bought the PC game with interest many years later. Haunted this forum as guest. Played against myself a few times, many hours of solecism. Got to mid 1940 with a friend IRL, defeated by early version bugs/IRL issues, he prefers XBox golf and GTA.

Because this is one of the most difficult and sophisticated games yet devised by mankind.

Can't speak for Keith, but am
a) excited to be playing a real person
b) enjoying everything you big hitters say, complimentary or not. You people know what you are talking about.

This is still for me a game of discovery rather than familiarity where you are looking for small finesses and efficiencies.

I am a history teacher by profession and come at it from that angle. The real war was very messy indeed. "No plan survives contact with the enemy."

In the north, Yamamoto disembarks at Tsingtao. Good German beer in that city.

Terauchi's Army Group proceeds south.

The Germans throw almost everything they can into an assault on Warsaw.

Zerstoerers provide ground support, von Bock HQ support, engineers assist his panzers across the Vistula on pontoons.

German fighters rebase from Poland to the Baltic coast. Heavy artillery is reorganised by air, von Leeb reorganises Stukas in the same hex.

Roll 10 = turn continues.

So thanks to some stupidity on my part, we are going to be restarting our game. Will be posting new updates here soon, instead of starting a new AAR, just going to keep using this

Cheers. Keith

Here we go then. A second attempt.

Axis leaders are disappointed to find they have been only dreaming of glorious war. The Fuehrer is so upset he declares war on Poland for real. Umezu was having a nightmare. He's relieved, as are 45 000 of his infantry.

Keith wanted additional Chinese cities this time, and I can't blame him for that.

For my part, I like the regional flavour the Warlords provide. I guess if China is defeated there are more garrison units available to Japan?

You may wish to note that to conquer a country, the attacking side needs to take the capital PLUS all factory cities, if any. So taking only Warsaw does not conquer Poland.
