I'll let you know shortly - but I do need to know if you are expecting any German units for Italy.

Edit 2: Regarding the US DOW. Any thoughts on how to proceed? Cautious or bold? Yay or nay?

I think the Chinese will soon be adopting the Russian "Snow Dance." The Race Is On.

I am very curious about the contents of the Japanese Infantry class force pool.

Also wondering if you made any agreement on any attemp to use the Isolated Re-Org optional, because in a regular game of WiF, this would soon be coming in to play all over Asia.

Cautious would be my approach. The last thing Japan needs is a breathing space - better to make them think its happening - even if it isn't.

No such agreement, so no isolated units.

Cautious - I wouldn't do it on 40% with the game as it is.

I fully agree with not attempting with a 40% chance. You have pulled this game out after a horrendous start; it is at least even. Actually I think it is in your favor. The one thing that could quickly put things back in the Axis favor is a greatly delayed US entry, and the best way to do that is to blow a few US entry attempts. Trying for a 40% is a great way to blow a US entry attempt. I would not even try a 50% shot, so long as the game is going well.

Huh, I thought the Japs were down several INF armies. Nonetheless they are quite stretched, with another War looming.

Going to war with the West without all those divisions is a mistake though. They will have many, many weak points in their perimeter. The USA could twist the knife further by rushing reinforcements to Malaya when war comes. Or the Reinforce the Phillipines option might both exploit the extra chit/turn and nicely balance the Tension pool and the war chance simultaneously, dunno.

The Japanese are fleeing. Lets follow them so close we can and grab 'em by their clothes. The Chinese soldier is, obviously, superior to the Japanese but in close combat they can not use their pesky artillery unless they target their own troops as well.

---

How about we advance in China so that we ZOC most of their units to increase the chance of partisans? I do not fear Japanese counterattacks unless they cause a front to collapse. If we taunt him into attacking then it might disorganize his troops and give us an opportunity. And either way it increase the Chinese production.

Edit: Although the bad weather stops the Nationalists for advancing because bad movement and bad weather cause almost every unit to become disorganized if they move. The Chinese are kind of happy that we didn't demand a re-roll.

If USSR keeps up the preasure on Germany then it might be that he declare war in winter. I suspect that is to our advantage.

HQ-A from Spain to Poland - a) it's working, and b) partisan chance in Spain might start going up too. Very good country for Allied Partisans - Spanish units can disembark on to them, if you can finagle the survival of a few through Incomplete Conquest, should the Axis get lucky @ Bilbao before the Yanks arrive. Same in France of course.

As my country goes up in flames, I need my little theoretical world in flames more than ever. Having studied 1930s German politics at the Graduate level is not re-assuring historical knowledge to have right now.

Okay, the Germans are starting to move the big guns to Poland. Not sure if I can make it to the start of next year without the pact being broken. Maybe get a defensive marker next turn and switch one of the offensive markers over to try and stall the Germans?

Not a bad idea. Germany has to declare war to activate Rumania. Boosting the defense value will continue to draw the Germans to the east.

It is starting to look like the USA will be able to get in the war with intact Allied bridgeheads on the Continent - nice position to be in. So anything that leads the Germans to put a unit in Poland helps keep Spain in the war.

It is a delicate dance though, as the USSR will hope for a chance to keep Rumania out of the war via their own DOW.

I don't think the Russians are in much danger from an attack late in the year, or very early in the year. Either will allow the REServes to be integrated into the defense before anything gets serious, and it will only get serious if Germany has a lot of Panzers and an O-chit on the spiral.

Nice spot to be in, playing to keep Rumania out of the war and/or bringing American troops directly to Europe.

I think it is better to focus all energy on offensive for USSR. Making Germany wonder if he can delay until 1942 or not. Making him break the pact, and use up his surprise, before he is ready. And more importantly just before the winter turn.

Well that depends on what is better:

a) Germany forced into declaring war when not completely ready (but can bring Romania into the war)

b) USSR declaring war on Germany (keeping the Romanians out until the Soviets want to attack at some point in the future).

I think I prefer b) - particularly with two HQ in the Far East. But needs a closer look at the garrison numbers as the turn moves on.

I agree that b) is better than a) but I think that it is unlikely that b) can be achieved. And I think that reaching for b) decrease the chance for a) and increase the risk that option c) occurs. And option c) we do not want considering that we want USSR to be able to continue with the offensive in Manchuria.

c) Germany declares war when they are ready.

The 2nd HQ in Siberia should be considered to be transferred to the German front to next summer anyway.

Is it OK if I do the first part of this game? And, if so, will USSR take a land impulse?

Sure - and I will come back on the Rail moves shortly, but there will be nothing else pre-land movement.

One problem with a USSR attack on Germany is the effect on US entry. I would declare war on Germany, if possible, once the US is at war with Germany and Italy. It is always possible to declare war on Italy, but unless Italian units are near the German/USSR border, there is little point if the Russians are at war with Japan. (If the USSR is not at war with Japan, one should always declare war on Italy once the US comes in, but that is not the situation here.) Once the US is at war with everyone, the USSR should always declare war on Italy.

May I suggest that USSR gets a lousy (bad factors) militia down to Persia to relive the 2nd Cavalry from partisan duties? Once relieved the cavalry is great to ZOC out Finnish intrusions behind the lines in Karelia.

I do not get it? I think it is 'no combat', although I have to check CPs to be sure, and that isn't all bad.
