I have a strange problem. In previous versions of SPWAW this has never happened. On several occasions when a vehicle or infantry have fired smoke, the game throws me out to windows and the game is shut down. Is there someone who can tell me why this happens or what to do about it? Otherwise, the game works fine and the new version is awesome.

Just ran in and started a battle and fired some smoke, I had no problems. Now I'm assuming you mean units firing smoke not artillery. Other posts are indicating they can use artillery to lay down smoke and no problems reported. I don't think it would matter but what side and time are you playing and I'll check that out.

Hi Pack Rat and thank you for investigating. Yes, it is units fireing smoke. The first "smoke and throw out" happened during the first battle in the Stalingrad campaign. The other in a generated campaign 1941 where I played russians vs the germans. I must stress that this does not happen every time I fire smoke, but everytime I have been thrown out, smoke has been involved. It might not meen that the smoke is to blame, but... Sadly in the Stalingrad first scenario I was thrown out three or four turns from the end, and I had made no saves :(

Well you answered my next question, did you save the game. I was going to ask you to send it to me. Couple of system questions then. How much RAM do you have, can you tell me your swap file size (is windows running it), is your hard drive pretty full?

Well I don't think the performance of my PC is the problem. It's only 6 months old, 800MHz, 128 RAM, Geforce2 32MB, etc... Have never experienced problems with any game before. And there is a lot of GB left on my hard drive. One thing that comes to my mind is that this "error" happened only during campaign scenarios. Strange!

Have you tried the good old standard "first try this" solution - delete steel.prf?

Nice system wanna trade? :D ;) Check your video drivers? Check your version of DirectX? If you're comfortable with changing the swap file size boost it up. If you aren't try this program, Cacheman http://www.outertech.com/ I suggest setting it to "3D games" or "power user". If you try the game again and can get a save, send it to me and we'll see what we see. Good suggestion on deleting the steel.prf also.

I played part way through the scenario last night, popping a lot of smoke, nothing happened. One thing I did notice was all the dust which has to take up more resources to show. I'm out of suggestions, except, as Paul V mentioned in another thread for another problem, you might try a fresh install of the game.

Thanks Pack Rat I shall try your suggestions and see if it make things work out. Yesterday I was thrown out again, this time it was a single scenario during a bombardment. Buy the way I played the Gold-beach scenario. I wanted it hard so I play the germans. Have made it for turn 16 (of 30) and it goes well. It's great. Thanks
