So I'm playing as Japan against Historical Allied AI, and I want to establish an overland route from SE Asia to Shanghai or maybe even Fusan. My goal is to condense ASW efforts to the Yellow and East China Seas in the north, and the South China Sea around Malaysia in the south while at the same time making my resources safer.

I know I'm in for a huge battle in China with several tens of thousands of Chinese in my way. I've already moved several thousand troops from Manchukuo (without taking away from the Soviet border) as well as aircraft to support the invasion, and plan on moving along the main railroad and highway systems, then spreading east towards the coast. I realize I have to secure the entirety of the overland route that I planned.

Is this a viable strategy? Do supplies and resources actually travel along overland routes, or am I forced to use transport ships from base to base and forever be at the mercy (and luck) of the Allied submarine force?

Is it as simple as ordering bases to stockpile at each end? Or every base from start to finish? Kind of unsure what to do to get the results I'm looking for.

The short answer is.... yes, it works. You need to make sure there is a road route that can be traced between endpoints. For obvious reasons, this requires capturing Nanning.

Now I'm curious what the not-so-short answer is.

Its rather long and I'm not the one to describe it as I don't use the method. I feel its too ahistorical for my liking. Its all about creating a demand along the path and its got to be done from the start or very early in the game AFAIK. There are others here who use it that may chime in with more info.

You could also try a search as I've read search is working again.

Okay. I'm only up to 16 Dec 41, so I can probably make use of that. I'll have a look around.

All you really need to do is make sure you have an unbroken road or rail connection from point A to point B. You can then just have your resource convoys load up at point B for transit to Japan.
