Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Initiative.

At the initiative step, I will re-roll and move first if I have the option.

quote:

I believe we both have that option to request a re-roll, which I will also will do if I lose the first roll. The initiative for next turn will be critical.

With this be the first turn that the USSR and Japan can declare war on each other and the situation in Russia against the Germans I feel that the initiate and weather rolls for this turn are ultra critical. So naturally I roll two 1's for the initiative.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Axis #1. Weather.

I then follow up a roll of two 1's for the initiative with a roll of 2 for the weather.

I'll deal with this impending disaster tomorrow.

I'm off to bed for tonight.

Started a new part-time job this week (teaching at a community college), so my playing time was at a premium. Expect it will be a bit slower till I get used to the routine.

Upgraded to 2.3.9.0, hope it works out fine.

SO42 i1 Axis
Japan DOW the USSR.
JP and GE take lands, IT takes a combined.
Italy flies a NAV to the 1-box of the E. Med and moves the transport to the W. Med and picks up the IT ARM HQ (to be debark in Tripoli).

The bomber initiates a search and is joined by three IT fighters. I reacted both CW fighters to the 0-box to cover the lone CP. Search rolls of 10/3 result in no combat. The image below shows the E. Med situation.

SO42 i1: Ground Strikes
There are three ground strikes. The one on Vlad cannot be intercepted due to surprise. The two versus the Germans can be intercepted as shown and the Italians can counter intercept each of those. Will you fly any interceptors?

1. For the attack on the stack 2 hexes northwest of Moscow, the Pe-3bis will fly and target the German bomber. The fighter will stay until the status of the bomber is determined, is shot down or aborted. The fighter will return to Moscow if it survives.

2. For the attack on the stack in Belograd, the I-16 fighter based in Rostov will intercept and target the bomber. The fighter will stay until the status of the bomber is determined, is shot down or aborted. The fighter will return to Rostov if it survives.

Ground Strike Results:
Note, I had a consistent crash with completion of the A-A combat over the Northern Ground Strikes. In working through it I lost the image (forgot to save on a reboot and did not realize it till I was past that point once I fixed the bug).

I reverted back to 2.3.6 to get past the bug. I would recommend we stay away from that version for now.

First A-A combat, both sides rolled 10's, this resulted in the Stuka being cleared.
The second A-A combat is shown below. First round the RU aborted the IT fighter. I decided to stay and in the second round the RU did not impact the bombers and the bombers shot down the fighter (pilot is saved).

SO42 i1: Ground Strike Results.
The Southern most Stukas must be great pilots. Shot down the Russian fighter and hit all of the targets. The Japanese could take a lesson, they missed on all 8 rolls.

SO42 i1 Land Attack
Moves of note.
Japan expanded into Siberia and cut the Siberian railway at several locations. They are now adjacent to Chita. The Burmese Army group moved for the first time in several months - towards the Indian border. The Germans adjusted things around the front, but a few good attacks this phase. The Italians have moved the ARM HQ to North Africa and moved the Bel Congo Terr into Northern Rhodesia.

Only one land attack around the world. You have several things that can fly. I do not believe I have any extra to intercept with, though I did fly one bomber and two fighters.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #2. Arabian Sea. Round 2.

Both sides (again) find. However, the RN has exactly enough surprise points to avoid combat, which is what they do.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. USSR Ground Strikes x 4.

The USSR has designated 4 ground strikes (3 air and 1 artillery). Only the designated air ground strikes are shown. The Luftwaffe can intercept two. Do you wish to intercept one or both of these two? I believe the Soviets have no fighters in position to counter if you do.

Pat and I started this game back last year at the first of July. So, we've been at it for 8 months. That's quite an investment to get to the point we're at. While I don't enjoy getting my headed handed to me, I do enjoy learning as much as I have from a competitive and better player in Pat. I do want to see if, or for how long, I can keep the Soviet Union alive. And, whether or not the Western Allies can get and stay ashore in Europe or Western Africa. So for now my philosophy is to make the next move based on the current situation.

Pat or I need to upload our game turn for any to see. It's really impressive how strong all the axis are. The Japanese navy is a sight to see, unless you're playing the allies that is.

The FW190 near Kursk will intercept the attack on it's own hex. No other interception.

Things are looking good for the Axis, but I have played this game long enough to know how quick it can turn.

Turn 19. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #2. USSR. Ground Strike #4.

4 attempted ground strikes and 1 of 10 German units disorganized, not to mention a Soviet bomber shot down. Not the results I was looking for or desperately needed.
