The "Heroes and Leaders mod" intends to introduce the idea of freeing the units of classic board counters, such as those used by the Heroes of Stalingrad or Advanced Squad Leader.
It's also attempted that the information presented on the classic counters of the board is not present. The AI already takes all that into account and players do not need to calculate "artificial" percentages, far removed from the reality of a "Close Combat".
I think that the percentage of success that the AI facilitates on the game screen itself is sufficient.
The units are less seen on the board (fog of war?), and their impact is much smaller.

Do you work with .png file format for transparency or with .tga.

Personnaly, i prefer counter style, it remind me the old good time of boargames #nostalgia

At the moment I am using TGA files, following the method of the original designers of the game.
It is true that it is difficult to accept the change that I propose. In addition, the graphic design of the original HoS counters, and also all the mods, are excellent.
I am also working with the buildings. It is true that his design is also excellent, but I think the size of each building is out of scale. When I have a first prototype I will upload it to the Forum.
My idea is to have a first mod on the version of Normandy, to see the impact that it produces.

Easy Company, 2nd Battalion of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, the "Screaming Eagles", is one of the best-known companies in the United States Army. Their experiences in World War II are the subject of the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers based on the book of the same name by historian Stephen Ambrose.

It is true that there are far fewer images of Italian soldiers and vehicles. But, the reality is that I have concentrated with the armies of Germany, the Soviet Union and the United States.
However, I have several friends who move very well on the internet and other sources. I will ask them to look for images of Italian army figures.

On the other hand, I intended to do, later, a mod dedicated to the Italian army in ww2, but I have no clear where to place the action.

Another new German vehicle for Heroes and Leaders mod.
Bussing AG was a German bus and truck manufacturer, established in 1903 by Heinrich Bussing in Braunschweig. Bussing is considered the oldest German lorry manufacturer. It quickly evolved to one of the largest European producers, whose utility vehicles with the Brunswick Lion emblem were widely distributed, especially from the 1930s onwards. In 1931 Bussing took over AEG daughter NAG and became Bussing-NAG.
This company manufactured many lorry types from 1.5 ton to 11.5 tons payload. The Bussing-NAG type 500 was manufactured from 1939 to 1941. Beginning in 1940, it was designated Bussing-NAG type 500 S. It was propelled by a 6 cylinder, 105 HP diesel engine and had a payload of 4.75 tons. It was made in small numbers from late 1940 to 1942.
Beginning in 1942, the Bussing-NAG Type 4500A replaced the Bussing-NAG Type 500A. The engine bonnet of the Type 4500 rose noticeably in the direction of the driver's cab. It was horizontal on the Type 500. Contrary to the Bussing-NAG Type 4500S, which had 7 louvers, the Bussing-NAG Type 4500A had 5 louvers in the side plates of the engine bonnet. Outwardly, it looked different, but it was based on the same technology. It was manufactured from 1942 to 1945. A whole range of simplifications was introduced to serial production of the Bussing-NAG 4500, especially to type 4500 A. Nearly 15,000 units of the type 500 A/S were manufactured until the end of Second World War

The Horch Company supplying a wide range of vehicles to the total engine Wehrmacht throughout the war. At least this was the idea, to achieve a high level of motorization in army units even though the reality was quite different. Most German units moved hypo mobile means similar to those used during the Great War.
The Horch 108 was one of the many models of light trucks 4x4 used the Wehrmacht in their divisions and were present in all theaters of operations. Within the family we can find several variants Horch, Type a, b, 1a, 40, etc. received yet another designation vehicles according to their employment in military life. Among them;
Kfz 15 - General-purpose vehicle.
Kfz 17 - Ambulance.
Kfz 31 - Vehicle and radio control.
Kfz 18 - Transport of 8 seats.
Kfz 21 - Kommandeurwagen to transport officers and officials.
Kfz 23 - vehicle engineers.
Kfz 70 - Vehicle transport of light artillery.
Kfz 81 - Vehicle flak cannon armed with 20 mm Flak 38.
Basic variants;
Horch 108 Typ a/b - Initial Production Model, 1937-38
Horch 108 Typ Ford 1a/1b and EGA, EGb and EGD - Models manufactured between 1939 and 1940
Horch 108 Typ 40 and Ford EG40 - Models manufactured between 1940 and 1942
The basic versions differed from each other in design of axles and wheels and other minor details as the location of the parts, the Typ 40 does not carry the spare wheel embedded in the side of the vehicle. The vehicle had a 3517 cc engine Steyr gasoline developed a power of 85 hp. I did not have any armor and could reach a top speed of 90 km/h with a range of 400 km reach 2485 kg overall weight and had no weapons but many of them were equipped with front stock for MG 34 machine gun in 7.92 mm.
Between 1937 and 1942 more than 10,000 vehicles were manufactured between Horch and Ford located in Germany who billed 1911 vehicles.

Krupp Prötze Kfz. 70
With the start of the German mobilization, armament department of the Wehrmacht began to select civilian vehicles with the potential to be used for military service. The main requirements for selection was the road performance, maintenance, simple and economical manufacture. For these parameters entered the civil light vehicle Krupp Protze (Protze, term used to describe an artillery wagon pulled by horses), with excellent 6x4 independent suspension and 4-wheel drive that could carry both soldiers and dragging artillery pieces lightly.
It was known as "Boxer" by the peculiar flat 4-cylinder engine air-cooled was the cause of a very distinctive shape. This provision also granted the driver an excellent view forward with a very low profile for the set. The vehicle exceeded 70 km/h was 4 forward gears and one reverse. Its serial production began in 1933 until 1936 he was replaced by L21-I 143 with an engine of 60 hp M304.
To transport the troops had a Kfz.70 open compartment with wooden benches and space for soldiers for the team. Production ceased in 1942 but Krupp Protze trucks were in service throughout the conflict with a total of 7,000 vehicles built.
The 1.5-ton light truck was designated Kfz. followed by a number to indicate that it was a military transport vehicle. The Kfz. 1 to 30 referring to passenger cars, whereas Kfz. 31 to 100 were reserved for trucks. Many times the cargo box was used to give mobility to antitank or antiaircraft pieces

StuG IIIF
With the arrival of the longer Stu.K. L/40, penetrating ability of the rounds was improved, and a battery of tests followed. As a result, the total load was reduced to 44, and the round proportions were changed. 12% of the shells were K.Gr.rot. Pz (armor piercing, capped, with tracer and explosive filler), 65% were HE rounds, or Sprenggranaten, and 23% smoke shells, or Nebelgranaten. Eventually, a fourth type was introduced, with increased efficiency against armor, thanks to the shaped charge principle. This was the HEAT or Gr.38 HL round. It was designed for excellent fragmentation performance, but was still very effective against softskin targets. The initial design was less successful than the K.Gr.rot. But, after the introduction of the HL/A & B, the numbers supplied to frontline units steadily grew. As an indication, an Ausf.D was captured in North Africa crammed with 88 rounds, including 20 HL/As and 35 K.Gr.rot., signalling an increase in tank to tank use.
The “long barrel” series, Ausf.F and F8
These series were known by the Waffenamt as the Sd.Kfz.142/1.
-The Ausf.F was an all-out improvement dictated by war experience against Russian tanks and the urgent need for high velocity guns on every platform available. It appeared on the production line in March 1942. The gun was the new 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/43. This 3.3 m long barrel was a real game-changer, with a muzzle velocity of 740 m/s when fed with the armor-piercing Panzergranat-Patrone 39. The Pzgr.Ptr.39 was indeed proven to defeat 99 mm (3.9 in) of sloped armor at point-blank range (100 m), and still 63 mm (2.48 in) at 2000 m. The optimal engagement range was 500 m, due to the lack of a turret, were it could pierce through 91 mm (3.58 in) of armor at a 30° angle slope. This was proven enough to destroy the most common T-34 tanks and saw the role of the StuG shifting from an infantry support vehicle to an ubiquitous tank-hunter. Another change was the exhaust fan added to the rooftop. By June 1942, with the production rate increasing, 30 mm (1.18 in) appliqué armor was bolted to the lower frontal plate, while the gun was upgraded to the StuK 40 L/48. In total, 366 were produced until September 1942.
-The Ausf.F8. This version appeared in September 1942 and 250 vehicles were built up to December. The name was derived from the chassis version of the Panzer III it was based on, the 8th, or Ausf.J/L, which had increased rear armor. The hull was characterized by towing hook holes extended from the side walls. It was armed, from the beginning, with the new 7.5 cm StuK 40 L/48, which could defeat 96 mm (3.78 in) of angled armor at 500 m, and 85 mm (3.35 in) at 1000 m (30° slope). With the same ammunition, the 3.6 m long barrel had better muzzle velocity, reaching 760 m/s for the Pzgr.Ptr.39. After October, 30 mm (1.18 in) of appliqué armor were bolted on to the front during the production run. Some were later retrofitted with side skirt armor.
The long barrel
Krupp already started worked on the s.Pak L/42 from January 1940, and the project evolved until March 1941. It was then shown to Hitler and an optimistic spring 1942 target was set for production. However, Wa Prüef 4 was ordered to cease work on the new gun design as the OKW, after evaluating the reports from losses due to T-34s and KV-1s, realized that not only protection needed to be increased, but the long barrel gun had to have an even greater muzzle velocity. Wa Prüef 4 then used this letter to require Rheinmetall to design a new gun with a 770 m/s muzzle velocity (with HE) and penetration of 80 mm/30° (3.15 in) at 1000 m.
The Sturmgeschutz-Abteilung GrossDeutschland and the LSSAH were the first to receive 22 of the new Ausf.F in operations, built since March-April 1942. At the start of the summer offensive on the Eastern front, there were about 210 Ausf.Fs in operation (18 units). By November 1942, 448 Ausf.F/Gs served with 22 units. By the time Kharkov was retaken in February 1943, GrossDeutschland Division’s StuG units claimed 44 T-34s (whereas the Tigers only destroyed 30). Around Leningrad, the Abteilung 226, with its 41 StuGs (including replacements), claimed an impressive score of 221 T-34s and KV-1s among others, for 13 losses. By March 1943, Abteilung battery composition was changed and increased. By the time the summer offensive started, all 26 units were replenished with new StuG Ausf.Gs, for a total of 727 right before “Zitadelle” took place.

The Sturmgeschütz IV resulted from Krupp's effort to supply an assault gun. As Krupp did not build Panzerkampfwagen IIIs, they used the Panzerkampfwagen IV chassis in combination with a slightly modified Sturmgeschütz III superstructure.
The first known proposal for a Sturmgeschütz on the Panzer IV chassis is in Krupp drawing number W1468 dated February 1943. This initial drawing unitized the outdated Sturmgeschütz Ausf. F superstructure on a Panzer IV chassis 9. This proposal had a sloped front superstructure with a combat weight of 28.26 tons. Krupp abandoned it in February 1943 because it was too heavy. Plans for the StuG IV were halted.
During the Führer Conference of 19 to 22 August 1943, after the Battle of Kursk, Hitler had seen reports of the StuG III outperforming the Panzer IV when used in an infantry support role and tactical defence. Convinced that a tank-hunter version would be superior to the tank version, Hitler planned to switch Panzer IV production to "Panzerjäger IV" production as soon as possible. It was to mount the same 7.5 cm L/70 used for the Panther. Another manufacturer, Vomag built a prototype Panzerjäger IV with 7.5 cm L/48 gun and demonstrated it on 20 October 1943. It was later re-designated as Jagdpanzer IV Ausf. F. As the Jagdpanzer IV was already being produced by Vomag, the StuG IV may not have materialized, had it not been for the major disruption of StuG III production, and the scarce supply of the 7.5 cm L/70 gun designated for the Jagdpanzer IV.
In November 1943, Alkett, the manufacturer of the StuG III, suffered damage due to an Allied bombing raid. Alkett produced 255 StuG III in October 1943, but in December production fell to just 24 vehicles. A conference held from 6 to 7 December 1943, addressed possible solutions to this problem. Hitler welcomed the suggestion of taking the StuG III superstructure and mounting it on a Panzer IV chassis. The StuG IV could be more quickly manufactured than the Jagdpanzer IV at the time. This restarted the Sturmgeschütz IV project. This time, the superstructure of the StuG III Ausf. G was mounted on a Panzer IV chassis 7, with a box compartment for the driver added. Combat weight was 23000 kg, lighter than the 23900 kg for the StuG III Ausf. G. Between 16 and 17 December 1943, Hitler was shown the StuG IV and approved it. To make up for the large deficit in StuG III production StuG IV production was now given full support.
From December 1943 to May 1945, Krupp built 1,108 StuG IVs and converted an additional 31 from battle-damaged Panzer IV hulls. While the number is smaller than the 10,000+ StuG III, the StuG IV supplemented and fought along with StuG III during 1944–45, when they were most needed.
