Don't pay any attention to the wild-eyed fanatics. The T34/85 handled whatever the Germans threw at it and regularly defeated German armor on the field of battle, which is what really counts. Don't be the least ashamed of being a fan of the T34 - if it was so bad, why did German field commanders early in the war want it copied? And that's for the record, too. A number of the real experts believe the T34 to be the outstanding medium tank of WW2, I happen to agree. Soviet designers constantly improved the T34 throughout the conflict, sure they were locked in from a production standpoint, so were we with the Sherman. At the same time they turned out heavy tanks in a constant stream of improved models. My belief is there were any number of Germans who were laughing at the Russian peasants right before an 85mm round took them to there own, private Valhalla (for Germans only, natually). I'll quote some field reports if it will make you feel better. Like the one where almost all the new super Panthers broke down after unloading from flat cars. A platoon of T34/85's in good running condtion took care of those which actually made it into combat. Comes down to perception. Bing
