PI- Manilla fell okay but Clarke is a real bear thanks to stacking limits.

The allied forces are out of supplies but are still capable of inflicting severe damage on IJA infantry formations. Once Singapore is taken the focus will shift back to here. I think Armour will be the key.

Aleutians- and this is where Jeff has cleverly made his move.

I haven't aggressively resisted because:

1. All of my assets are engaged with priority targets and can't be spared and

2. Fairly convinced it is a distraction to divert forces away from India and OZ.

I can't see the Allies making much further progress and once the Tojo comes on line, I fully intend to establish air supremacy. Jeff has been very good with his CAP settings with his P40s and P39s and has caused a considerable amount of grief amongst my poor Oscars

What settings is he using?

Very short range and reasonably high alt but not maximum. I am starting to suspect that his pilot quality may be the major factor behind my grief and not the settings. I also suspect he is very good with his pilot training.

A long time without an update but plenty happening.

Its late Jan 43 and the Allies have started to roll into an offensive.

Most of the fighting has been in India where the Allies have twice fail to take Bombay and suffered heavy losses. On his third try Jeff utilised some great manoeuvre tactics where he bypassed Bombay and went straight at Calcutta. He obliterated two Japanese IJA divisions that got caught in his path and trapped.

IJA Tactics: Allied firepower and speed is simply too strong for a war of manoeuvre over such a large land mass as India. In saying that the key positions (Madras, Bombay and Calcutta) are valuable to the war effort and would be very difficult positions to take. Also one of the key reasons for invading India was to attrit and make commonwealth forces bleed. Defending from these solid strong points makes sense in achieving this aim.

Anyway 12 + allied inf divisions + armour are about to assault Calcutta which has 3 and 1/2 veteran inf divisions.

I wonder who will win

Well the first wave came in, but unfortunately for the Allies it appears someone stuffed up traffic control and only one side assaulting across the river arrived either that or there was a colossal failure in Allied int.

I know how devilishly tricky it can be to coordinate multiple battle groups arriving at the same time so I feel Jeff's pain.

It was always going to hurt the allies, but the lack of combat power meant a lot of blood spilt for no real gain.

Now I just need to take care of the other 20 divisions behind them.

Only way to fight as the IJA- in heavy urban terrain

Nicely done at Calcuttagrad , but the low level of supplies is worrisome.

No CV clashes?

Sorry Lowpe, I have been very slack and trapped with work.

There has been some interesting land engagements but both navies have kept pretty far apart from one another. KB ambushed a decent sized Allied convoy around Guadalcanal which most likely resulted in a sunk US fast BB but that is about it. Bombay has been ignored which makes sense given the casualties he is sustaining at Calcutta. Did I mention before how much I love urban terrain.

I will post some maps and stats over the weekend. It is another great game and Jeff is a very sharp opponent.

From every game now on I will always try to take Calcutta.

Without naval bombardments, it is such a nightmare for the Allies to take and they can't really leave it before they push into Burma because of flank security. Also it is an important logistical hub.

The third failed allied assault though my supply position is low. I can always run shipping through to Calcutta but losses are very high.

Major shipping losses

You can add another US fast BB to this total but apart from that losses are very light. Neither side has lost a carrier and we are both cautious with them. The real carnage will start when the Allies commence their push.

Russia- massing on the borders.

Jeff has delayed me in China so the Russian assault is still a couple of months off. I will only oush the button once Chungking is taken.

Some eco stats.

I have spent a lot more on R&D this game and mass produced engines, hence HI and supply are considerably lower than I am use to.

South Pacific

Due to my Indian excursion, I made a conscious decision not to push to far into the South Pacific. Instead I have been working on developing a series of strong points around Rabaul that can be mutually supporting. 3 of the strong points have been completed with another two to go. Once I add more mine fields and AA guns they should be tough nuts to crack.

Surface forces and occasionally other surprises will lurk a few hexes back covered by strong LBA and IJN search assets.

Finally Northern Oz.

The positions have been developed and there is quite a bit of infantry deployed on these outposts. It shouldn't be an easy path for him........

The concept here is defence in depth with the really formidable positions slightly behind the outposts. Ambon, Kendari, Boela etc

Leading pilots below. I have tried to be really careful with my pilots with the result being the pools and operational units are still very strong, especially with fighter pilots.

Air losses- the A6M2 is such a fragile little thing.

His B17Es have been causing me a lot of grief either on ground strikes or low level naval attacks. Unfortunately the A6M2 have borne the brunt of defending against these beasts on CAP (sometimes at a distance) hence the heavy op losses.

Overall losses for both sides are very light.

Your Manchuko garrison is only 11.5K AV; is that enough for Japan.

My goodness your vehicle production is sky high!

I believe the garrison should be fine. Once Chungking falls the IJA will commence massing back in Manchuria.

I love my vehicles and last game I needed every one of them fighting the Ruskies.

It doesn't take much to fall back to page 2 these days!
