The generic portraits

I know that you can‘t find a portrait for each officer of this era.
Therefore, the game uses generic portraits - and I find that perfectly fine.

But using for each army, the same generic portrait, with the same uniform, is not fine.
This is disappointing.

They shouldn't be - I did make British, French and Prussian. They may look similar as they use the same base model and with them being filtered in Photoshop maybe the difference isn't obvious. I'll have a look.

Ok - i think you're install is fine. Probably we couldn't get the GUI to switch. I'll check and see if we can add to the patch.

Yes it's already in our tracking system for the patch. It was a limitation of the new GUI and we ran out of time to fix it. But we'll get it in the game as soon as we can.

After a break I play SOWW again.

In an epoch which showed so many beautiful uniforms, this issue is still unresolved after so long.
I'm disappointed...

it appears no development has been done on the waterloo engine itself for nearly a year now. This doesn't bode well for future Napoleonic titles.

The Wavre feature list is very short for $20, compared to say Quatre Bras. Little Powell has given us stuff over the years for free with more depth, imo.

Nevertheless, newcomers should not overlook the excellent Civil War collection, especially when it inevitably goes on sale. Nothing wrong with Napoleon either, but latest offering appears a bit lacking.

In a related topic, I purchased the Wavre DLC because I do really love these games. However, I was disappointed to see that Marshal Grouchy has a generic portrait like the ones featured in the OP. C'mon! That's just sloppy. Marshal Grouchy isn't some obscure brigade or division commander. There are several contemporary portraits of him that should have been used. That Grouchy didn't get his actual portrait appears to be a bad sign along with the no update/upgrade that the Wavre DLC was rushed-out the door in order to finish-up the series.

Sadly, I do suspect Waterloo and its DLC were sales disappointments and that the SOW series' future is dim. If true, then it's a shame.
