The AI is very good at raiding port, airfield and troops day and night. I have tried to bomb the same but suffered bad losses. After a week left only 1 plane in squadron. Can hardly spare fighters for escort as have to cap and lcap. How do you guys get your bombers to attack?

Depends.. what is killing your bombers?
if it is AA, then don't fly too low
if it is fighters, simply try sweeps for a few days to reduce their numbers, then mix sweeps with heavily escorted bomber strikes

naval bombardment is also a great way to reduce an airbase, assuming of of course it is coastal and not too well defended with mines/ coastal artillery

Watch what the AI does, and mimic it. To start, that is a good way to learn. The AI does KNOW the game in the sense of what works and doesn't work from a fundamental perspective.

I assume you are the allies, so you have to understand that you are outmanned and outgunned across the board. You have to pick your places to fight carefully. If you try everywhere, you play into the IJ strength.

A lot of your early forces are either really poor equipment and/or really inexperienced. You cannot fight them until you have better equipment and more exp... that takes time.

Survive until you have it all ... it is what happened historically.. trade space for time ...

Yeah the AIs can be tricky, if you stand your fighters down for CAP and not having any other fighter groups nearby for CAP, good chance they will send in bombers to hit that base. Also depend on the weather, they wont send it if it is poor and aborted if really bad. The AIs will send in recons to get some information about that base before attacking it, supposedly though. But not always.

I do a lot of night raids early in the war. It may not do a lot of damage but the enemy
will spend points repairing runways while your crews gain experience.
Flying at about 10,000ft keeps your loses to a minimum.

Thanks guys for your helpful advice. There is no short cut to end the war quickly and the real war took lots of sweat, blood and tears so the game is no exception.

+1. Night raids the only effective means to launch bombing strikes without taking unsustainable aircraft and pilot losses. This is definitely true on strikes launched using unescorted bombers - which will occur in most if not nearly all instances as Allied fighters (with a very small number of exceptions) do not have sufficient range to escort bombing missions. Down to 8000' altitude for level bombing strikes is sufficient to avoid most damage by Japanese flak.

Watch the weather, A/C fatigue, pilot fatigue, and range to target. If high (bad in the case of weather/long in range) all will lead to higher op losses in addition to that stated above.
