Just wondering what the rationale was for lowering cargo capacity for paradrop? On the C-130, the most hummers I can get is 3, with the 18 soldiers that come with it, it leaves me room for only 6 more paratroopers. 20 ton cargo capacity, but only 10 ton airdrop capacity.

Here is a video of 4 HUMVEE and 50 paratroopers. And it looks like there is room for 5 Hummers as well.

As well, the C-17 only has paradrop for 8 tons, and only has personnel cargo type, it cannot airdrop small cargo (like the HMMVW) at all. This video shows it dropping 8.

And this video shows a Stryker (medium cargo) being dropped from a C-17.

And Seals being dropped with patrol boats Please add this, as people have reported dropping cargo over the ocean and sinking. You can them just tell them to drop floatable cargo, haha.

Overall, I am incredibly impressed with the cargo model. Kudos! But I'm sure there might be small issues like this. Heh, I was about to take up issue with the C-5 not being able to transport 2 Abrams tanks, but then I realized that it could transport 2 M1A1s, but not 2 of the later models which weigh 7 tons more(lockheed and Army statements I'm sure were when the M1 just came out)....haha, that's probably one of the reasons why the C-5 fleet has been reduced

Unless you have some clown car variant of the C-130 going on, you're never ever going to load 5 HUMMVEEs onto a C-130. The Youtube video you linked is a C-17, even if the title says otherwise.

Here's a pic from inside a C-130J, taken just behind the cockpit.

Yeah, I was questioning that myself, as I couldn't hear the props. And the plane seemed new and modern inside. However, the 'first' video looked like a smaller plane than the 2nd video, which had the hummers 2 abreast...but now I think about it, the paratroops are besides the single line of hummers but in the second video, no paratroopers.

Still wondering about the lower capacity for paradrop compared to normal cargo haul, especially for the c-17, which can paradrop only 9% of its non-paradrop weight, nor can paradrop any vehicles at all.

In theory, Hercules can lift eleven 3-tonne Humvees with its impressive MTOW.

But no, cargo plane is not a sardine can. You have to respect the capacity, like it or not.

Well, in regards to capacity, I "can" fit 5 vehicles in the C-130 in cargo mode and transport them to an airbase (or a LUA created shortrunway). I suppose that is only possible if they are disassembled. Maybe one of the issues is that the model isn't detailed enough. Square footage of cargo doesn't translate directly into cargo available square footage. I'm not sure if length width of the cargo and container are taken into consideration. Heh, if the Hummers were loaded into the C-130 sideways with a forklift, maybe 5 could be put in there. 3 can be airdropped, and that's fine by me (again, I got thrown off from the beginning due to the video stating the wrong aircraft). Again, thanks to all for the info to clear up my C-130 confusion.

But what about the C-17? 8 hummers can be paradropped or 4 hummers and 50 troopers IRL. But the C-17's paradrop cargo seems to be way off to the low side.

Also, I realized the V-22 doesn't have paradrop loadout at all, which it most definitely should. I think it should be able to do 12 paratroopers or 2 463L half-pallets (whenever generic cargo can be paradropped which can contain ammo)
