Using the event editor, I tried to trigger a video clip to play when a unit is destroyed. I have attached the video clip as a .wmv file via scenario attachment. Although the action was triggered and a screenshot of the video clip appeared, the video did not play. Can anyone help? This is the action lua-script seen on the event editor. Thanks!

Videos don't just do it but the auto play command is usually coded into the html or page they reside. Not sure if there is a lua equivalent but you could just attach a webpage with the video in it that has the auto play line in it.

You should be able to play a video. I just added one of the NI video attachments to a test scenario, and it played fine.
If you zip up the scenario with the attachment, I can check it for you.

Interesting idea. I would probably use it with a bit of caution i.e for special / high value units. Having it play every time one of dozens of a/c are destroyed might be too much. Certainly if a carrier goes down it would be neat reward for the player.

Do you have the video clip as it is not in the zip?

I can see what you mean; it just shows the first frame.
I used one of the existing videos from NI in place of it, and that video shows okay.
Must be something about how the video is created, or the properties in it. The video is played thru DirectX, not any special coding in the game.

so any videos played would be via html embedding within briefings/special messages?

Hmm, interesting! Does that mean that, in theory, YouTube videos (and other video streams, e.g from Dropbox) can be embedded and auto-play as well? Worth trying!

Hmm .. Come to think of it, having any old stuff dynamically loaded off the internet into local memory might not be a great idea for security reasons. Even if the scenario designer had no ill intent. Links to harmless content could be exchanged with harmful material at a latter date and the designer would never know.

Thanks guys, for trying to help even though the issue is still unresolved. I will update again if I ever figure out what's wrong. I still think it is quite cool to enhance the 'mood' of a scenario if a video clip is played when a special event is triggered.

Hey guys... guess what? I tried another video clip, this time in .AVI format using the same attachment format, and it worked! And I tried the earlier video clip in .MP4 format and it didn't... guess it's a trial and error process...
