Pushing Through Cold War Scenario Creation Blocks

A short article to help with a hangup.

Lots of great points, and I definitely agree with your advice - and I'd even encourage designers to think of the Cold War as a backdrop/wild card to any scenarios set in that era. Even a small colonial clash, terrorist incident or coup can easily turn into a rather modern conflict if one or both of the major players provide support.

I got into CMANO largely because of my interest in the Cold War era, so I'm always happy to see creative scenarios from this period

Must be something wrong with me since I have more Cold War scenario ideas for CMANO than I can ever possibly create. Right now there are six partially completed CWDB scenarios in various states of completion living on my laptop and two from the 1980's. Finding the time to work on them and solving scripting problems to facilitate the desired effects are the issue and not a dearth of subject-matter or concepts.

Got some really interesting feedback the other day but its gonna make some of us feel old

It's that many of our younger players were not alive when the Cold War was going on so the Cold War fear and atmosphere really doesn't really compute. I'd say that's definitely a valid thought.

Yeah, that was actually my thought exactly - must be an age/informed-ness thing. I once lived in the same building with college students (who'd be in their early 20s now), and I remember the one time they genuinely asked me what the USSR/Soviet Union was when I mentioned being born there, because they'd never heard of it

I think CMANO is a great educational opportunity on things like this!

Even worse. Now, many folks, especially "Millennials" and late "Generation X" types, were not even alive for the Vietnam Era. At least WWI, WWII and the Civil War were before my time LOL!
