Version 6.04 uploaded.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/su88gsvgxe0xfjn/FW%206.04.zip?dl=0

No fixes necessary, just some balancing tweaks in favor of Axis (Allied AI stomped me last game).

Also is there anyone who would like to make new NATO Counters?

Hello crispy131313

I would be Glad to make some Nato counters for your MOD.
Just Pure NATO is enough? or some other counters design?

NATO is enough, but I will not handcuff your creativity especially as your are volunteering!

I have changed some of the unit types which is why I need the update to NATO counters. Division is now slot 2 instead of 3 for example, and I have created Mechanized Divisions, Mountain Division etc.

OK I will check localisation file.
The counter I did display is a rework of my previous MOD and its just starting...
So may take time.
I can prepare some standard Nato at first, up to your units ID, should be quicker.

Do you use same nations bitmaps slots as the vanilla version (and MAJOR-6 unused)?

Thanks, standard NATO would be very welcomed at this time! I do use the same Major Slots as Vanilla as you described, there should be no surprises other then following the Localization file.

- Fixed an Axis Minor Bitmap (Corps)

Also I don't think I mentioned this, Mountain Divisions have +1 ATT, +1 DEF in Mountain Hexes, as well as 5% Damage Evasion while in Mountains. The bonuses are hidden and are not reflected when viewing unit stats.

Here is a template for Nato counters (British Major_01 only).
Just have a look and tell me if you are happy with design (any comment or change is welcome) and slot allocation (in case I misunderstood Localisation file)
Then I can proceed to others nations and think about NATO Zoom version.

I really like them! Great choices for the different aspect ratios of Land, Air & Sea. Also the slot allocation looks correct to me.

The only one I think could use a different design is the HQ, which is almost blank.

As for NATO Zoom, you can just change the size. That is what I did for the 3-D Counters. I had to use Paint.Net to change the size exactly to scale, I couldn't figure out how to it on GIMP which I used to change the counter design.

Thanks Again!

The problem with HQ's is that the "NATOflagsprite" file will cover a good part of HQ counter with a Flag image, so not much space remaining (or a really small HQ nato on upper right).
If you have any design suggest I am open no problem.

I was thinking this way, but then the units size (Div, Corps, Army) gets difficult to read after scale down.
I will find a way...

Thanks Again!

There's a few events that you could go with tbh, I'll just list big contributions Canada made in\ world war 2.

-Canada had the third biggest navy in ww2, 95,000 men and women served in the Royal Canadian navy, which was out fitted with 434 commissioned vessels. Canada played a massive royal in the battle of the Atlantic. If it wasn't for Canada bring in supplies to the UK after the fall of France it never would have been able to hold on and fight off Germany.

-The Royal Canadian air force, It reached it's peek in 1944 and had a peak strength of 215,200 of all ranks. The Canadians had 35 oversea squadrons and 43 at home, Canada had something called British Commonwealth training plan in which allied pilots would be trained from and sent overseas to fight.

-Industrial contribution, this part I feel was huge. After the fall of France the UK lost 75,000 of it's 80,000 military vehicles it had during the early bits of the war, so Canada was charged with replacing these vehicles. Canadian industry produced more than 800,000 military transport vehicles, 50,000 tanks, 40,000 field, naval and anti-aircraft guns, plus 1,700,000 small arms. 168,000 vehicles were kept for the Canadian royal army which would make it the most mechanized army in the field of ww2.

I feel that maybe there should be events for the uk where they can get more destroyers from Canada and some goes with the air force, the British Commonwealth training plan was huge because it tried most of the pilots for the war effort. So maybe some events for that so that you can boost your air force maybe. Lastly I would say maybe an event or two about gearing up Canada's war industry, we heavily supplied the allies with aluminum, which I think Canada produced around 10% of all the allied aluminum production. A side note I would like to add is that after the fall of France and the UK was preparing the defence of the island, the Canadians were the most mobile force in the army at that time, so they would have been used as reserves. I feel that Canada should be able to build mechanized units if they can't already.

Sadly I can't, it says I need to wait 7 days before I can post links. I'll try and message you the links privately and to anyone else who is interested.

Oh wow, I was dead wrong with the 10% aluminum thing, Canada actually supplied the allies with 40% of all their aluminum! and Nickel was even higher at 95%. That's crazy! Also another fun fact is that the Americans got their uranium from us, which made the atom bombs.

I also want to add that maybe another event you could do is that when Canada declared war on Germany, Canadian soldiers started to arrive in England after two weeks of the declaration of war.

Canada also fought on many fronts throughout the entire war, We fought in Dieppe which was basically an entirely Canadian operation, Operation Husky, Invasion of Italy, D-day and so on. We also had airplanes and ships in the Mediterranean during the north African campaign.

And Canada did all of this while having a very poor army, navy and air force at the start of the war, plus we only had 11 million people.

These sprites are great, thank you very much!

On the Zoomed out NATO icons (Major 6 template) some of the Symbols are outside of the box which could be very tough to see on the Map though. Otherwise, the finished Set is exactly what I was looking for, you have done me a great service.

Thanks for providing some base info I can use, I think the conscription crisis may be interesting as well. As a fellow Canadian (I notice you said we when referencing Canadian contributions) I feel I should have looked more towards Canada already

I have to find a compromise between NATO symbol size and the "XXXX" positioning and size.
Not that much pixels available, I will try different options and see how it goes.

In case you need sprites with different background colors as spares (instead of the usual grey for germany, Blue for French ect...) just let me know as its quite easy to MOD and make a custom colors set.

I do not think I will need different color sprites, I already left my comfort zone just making new 3-D unit sprites.

Canada won't be OP because I'll have to make sure to balance any changes I make. It cant be as simple as Canada gets more units and sends more MPP into the UK pool without any consequence.

I'd be very interested in hearing about seeing the Canadian events when you make them, just so you know. I wonder how you would do the conscription crisis event though.

From some of the research I've done this is what I think would be appropriate.

1. Decision event surrounding the 1st Canadian Division, which departed under heavily escorted convoy to Britain Dec 1940, and was mainly for the defense of GB. The DE will probably feel similar to the 7th Armored but i'm unsure if I want the other side of the DE to leave the Division in Canada or allow it to be shipped to Egypt as option 2.
2. Importance of Canadian Economy - I may decrease UK initial Industrial Modifier and increase the Convoy MPP received from Canada, which will ramp up over time. It would also make the Atlantic a bit more contested Pre-American Entry.
3. The "Zombies" (Volunteers who did not want to serve in Europe) can be represented as a Garrison which can deploy in either Newfoundland or Iceland. (If Iceland then USA will not have the opportunity to garrison Iceland later.) Iceland was garrisoned at the request of Britain so the context will make sense.
4. Canadian Surface Fleet will receive 5% Reinforcement Cost (Currently only UK/USA have this cheaper surface fleet reinforce cost).
5. Canada can build 1 Mech Div, 1 Mech Corps
6. I will likely look at a scenario where Canada can supply UK with Destroyers OR a Fighter Group. The cost can be offset by having Canada's Industry switch to military production (if UK decides, which relates to #2).

Let me know what you think. I have to shy away from "Freebies" for balancing reasons, but the above should add some more flavor without tipping the scale too much.

I have not made any changes to any image file, so the mod should work I think.

What needs to be addressed really is how unfriendly the developers are to playing edited campaigns. SC2 did not require a seperate campaign directory.

Hi Crispy,

Finally had a chance to take a quick look and this is a great mod, nice work

For the separate campaigns folder this is a long overdue change and pretty much a requirement now for Windows programs since the Vista release in that all user files should be saved in the system 'User\Documents' folder and not within the installation folder which by default is the 'Program Files' folder.

Depending on your User Access Control (UAC) settings, it may have worked for you in the past, but for a lot of players this was a bit of a headache as either they couldn't write to the Program Files folder or their files would go missing (subsequently hidden in a virtualization folder) and so on. Not to mention the headache this also created for us on the tech support side.

Essentially most if not all modern Windows applications save user data, whether it is from a game, or from another application such as a word processor, to the 'User\Documents' folder now and for this game, this now includes all saved games, initialization files as well as custom campaigns.

Here are a couple of links on why this is now a necessity under Windows:

https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/7b3ada32-181d-4c55-9259-ee44f5f83b82/cant-write-to-program-files-folder?forum=w8itprogeneral

Version 7.2 uploaded

https://www.dropbox.com/s/3bvbt2ndpjfhsu7/FW%207.2.zip?dl=0

List of changes from 7.0 below:

Littorio Battleship (Italy) - The unit used to arrive upon surrender of France, now it fires after the Vichy France event in case of a prolonged French campaign.

Light Cruiser Petropavlovsk (USSR) - The unit will now arrive any date after September 1940 so long as USSR is 100% active. It was arriving in September 1941 before, I had meant for September 1940 as per my notes.

I’ve just tried out two FWII_v7.2 games as Allies (on “Intermediate” level) and my first impressions are that I really like the feeling of this mod! The many new events add lots of aspects and flavor to the game. The unit sizes & types feel just right. And SIPRES’s NATO counters are just awesome on Welk’s board game map! (I have further tweaked some nation colors & map details according my preferences.)

But what’s going on with Greece & Bulgaria?
In both my Allied games, Germany suddenly permitted territorial concessions to Greece in September 1940, which immediately caused Greece to form an alliance with Germany and join the Axis. This suddenly happened although Greece only had a 5-7% leaning towards the Axis and (in my second game) I had 3 diplomatic chips invested in Greece. In both games, I had invested in the early event to have Greece cut its trade relations with Germany. On the same turn, Bulgaria signed a defensive pact with USSR. In my second game, this all happened just before the fall of France and well after Italy had joined the Axis.

Any hints or comments on what’s going on here?

I got so intrigued by the sudden & unexpected development that I saved my Allied campaign and plan to continue it. (Although with a completely revised game plan...) But I must first try out an Axis campaign to see what happens.

Thank you, I am glad to hear you are enjoying especially the alternate unit structure and sprites!

To address your question:

Germany will have a brief window of opportunity beginning in September 1940 to bring Greece into the Axis camp if all the below conditions are met:
1. Germany is Axis
2. Italy is Axis
3. Albania is Axis occupied
4. Greece is Axis leaning
5. Bulgaria is Axis leaning (not fully active)
6. USSR is Allied leaning (not fully active)

The event is meant to serve as an alternative to Spanish diplomacy while also adding some replay-ability and alternate history. If you can keep Greece within the Allies sphere of influence (Allied Leaning) the Axis will not have the option to offer concessions to Greece.

I have tried to make the notes to decisions as detailed as possible, but it would be easiest to play each side once to have a feel for the new events. Some are very situational and will not appear in most games however. There are more alternate events to come in future package once I find time.

Ah! Thanks for the speedy reply & explanations.

I did try to keep Greece leaning towards the Allies with 3 diplomatic chips.
But I just started my first Axis campaign so now I see what’s going on…
Guess I just got unlucky with zero diplomatic breakthroughs as the Allies.

I’m having a ball with this mod!
Great stuff!!!
