I'm planning to upgrade my PC in the future although I'm just curious how much would Command benefit from it. I'm just planning to replace my CPU and other required things. My plan is to get the R5 1600X and 16 GB RAM that's at least 2666/2800 MHz.

Current specs:
Pentium G3258 OC'ed to 3.8 GHz
12 GB RAM @ 1600 MHz

In large and heavy scenarios like Korean campaign 2018 or Red Dragon Descends, my computer just becomes unusable. Chrome is lagging, explorer sometimes not responsive enough when clicking things and etc..

I'm not just really sure if CMANO is either single-threaded or multi-threaded performer.

Hi rain08...

I have a AMD 3.2GHz tri core, a nvidia 740gt with 2GB of RAM and 4 GB of system RAM, the game mostly runs silky smooth for me, even in the big scenarios.

When I get on my PC tonight I will check how many cores the the game is using..

Also what game version are you on? In the last few patches the devs have done a lot of optimization...

I do plan to get some more RAM in the near future as 4gb is not a lot these days..

Cheers

I'm currently on v1.12, B936.16. I do notice the performance improvements (sometimes slightly) when it's included in the patch notes, but there are just some scenarios that are really big where my system can't really do much.

Hi,

At large/complex scenarios Command can easily saturate 2-3 cores, which is why you may see issues across the OS on just 2 cores.

4 cores is _currently_ the sweet spot, as it allows throwing 3 (all four at a pinch) cores at the game while still keeping at least one core for the rest of the OS and other apps.

Also Command currently uses up to 4GB RAM (usually less), so the rest gets left to the OS.

Thanks for the answer guys. I may be able to play other games while CMANO is running on a scenario in the future .

Thank you, this is probably the single most elusive/relevant piece of information about this simulator.

Command doesn't bother my CPU greatly. There's always a few threads available. However, mine's not the usual. I bought it in 2010 for development work and to run several VMs in the course of said work, so it's a 6-core i7 class Xeon. There's always threads to use up.

If one wanted to build a PC primarily for CMANO what hardware would be optimum with, let’s say, a budget of around $1800?

Also, what improvements are necessary to get the game running better on existing boxes? Or is it just really all CPU?

Also, just out of curiosity has anyone heard of multiplayer coming anytime soon?

Many thanks again to the makers of the greatest computer sim/game in the world!

Imprortant part of CMANO hardware is monitors, plural. I have two and when I play it is usually map on one monitor and mission editor on the other. However, I often wish for the third one to put the log window onto.

CMANO

Hi.

For the current CMANO versions, I would recommend a quad-core (or 2C/4T, if on a tight budget) Intel CPU with as high a frequency as possible. Also an SSD (not necessarily a very fast one). If the CPU has a built-in GPU this can suffice for now, otherwise any cheap discrete GPU. RAM doesn't need be more than 4GB (plus more for rest of OS/apps) but it helps if it's fast. A second monitor, even a small & dirt-cheap one, is also a good investment.

Process Lasso has consistently been reported to help significantly to maintain good speed in large/complex scens. Windows 10 also consistently shows better performance as an underlying OS than either Vista, Win 7 or 8.

Cheers.

You don't really need $1800 (US) to build a killer PC anymore. In my humble opinion, in order, look at CPU (Intel Core i7 should more than do the trick, the current-generation i5 should also work well; it's been a while since I've even looked at AMD processors), a good solid-state drive (I have a Samsung 850 EVO; I believe the current-generation is 950), and RAM (16 GB will do nicely even though, as a 32-bit program, CMANO only uses a maximum of 4 GB). Since CMANO is not a 3D game, as long as the graphics solution supports multiple monitors, and you have the desk space, just about any graphics card (or even most modern on-board chipsets) will do multiple monitors well enough. Of course, if you're building a general gaming PC, stay out of the bargain bins and go for a gaming-oriented graphics card/motherboard/(main) monitor.

For current systems, get yourself a good solid-state drive and a good amount of RAM (if you have a 32-bit OS, the most you can put into your system is 4 GB; otherwise, you should have 8-16 GB).

If you have a tablet, you can get an app that allows you to make it a second/third screen. If memory serves, most of the apps require a wifi network, but a couple use a USB connection.
