Yihadi fighting between them...Funny. At least I hope that they will fight in his countries and left Europe in peace.

Vietnam to enlist 2 more new Russian-built Frigates.

Mike, it's possible an update of the God of War scenario in order to have 2 Gepard instead of 2?
Thanks.

One Chinese oil rig was besieged by several Vietnamese fishing boats two days ago, and attempted to tug the rig with ropes. In return those workers fired water cannons at them:

It is reported that the advanced rocket engine has successfully completed the test run few days ago. It will be used for developing new AAM, including PL-15 and the upgrade of PL-12, media also hinted another new variant of missile designs with this engine technology as well:

Looks like the Type 055 is now classified a Cruiser and designated RENHAI-class, according to latest DoD report.

http://www.defensenews.com/articles/pentagon-china-upping-military-capabilities-plans-base-in-pakistan

quote:

The report also briefly touched on China’s latest surface combatants, the Type 055 cruiser of the Renhai class, an estimated 10,000-ton ship that has larger missile capacity and can employ larger cruise missiles. That said, the report failed to state that open-source data has shown China is already building at least four, possibly five such ships at two different shipyards.

Ars article said it has a search pattern mechanic to find the target even the link is out. However, it's has no sea skimming ability and only dive down at terminal stage. It will be easily detected when it has 2km cruise altitude. AKA an Lo-Hi-Lo ASCM:

https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2017/06/north-korea-hits-imperialist-aggressor-barge-in-coastal-cruise-missile-demo/

quote:

According to a statement by South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff, the missiles flew at a peak altitude of about 2 km (1.24 miles)—not exactly a "sea skimming" course, although the missiles appear to have dropped down to low altitude once the targets were detected.

It may be an economic approach to make this missile fly further with high altitude flight, but Russian exports and indigenous versions never had such of thing mentioned.

However, it means one substantial thing though, NK can also make turbofan engines for their new arsenals, and Kh-35 copy could be just a beginning.

First JF-17M for Myanmar Airforce spotted. First non-Pakistani customer for the Thunder.

quote:

It was reported in June 2015 that JF-17 secured its first export contract from an Asian customer which is believed to be Myanmar. The $560m contract could involve an initial batch of 16 aircraft and the delivery could start in 2017. A recent image (July 2016) suggested that the 04 prototype has been wearing a new blue color scheme based upon customer's requirements. The first JF-17M was ready for taxi test in June 2017, wearing a similar blue camouflage.

Numerous things happens to Panama in a year, from Panama Papers to one-side diplomatic termination to Taiwan after 107 years. The ex-president is also arrested.

Military scenario based on these news are minimal, but will be significantly affect the Chinese influence to their favors:

Do you know how many AC in a Chinese Regiment? Is it organized in Squadron type groups and can it have multiple tasks or is it more of a Cold War style 'One Regt = one task"?

Are all Regts a universal size?

Thanks

A regiment should be equivalent with a NATO squadron. 2-3 Regiments are subordinate to Air Divisions.

Depending on affiliation and aircraft type, the number varies. PLAAF "heavy-fighter" Regiments (such as J-8, Flankers, and possibly the J-20 as well) usually have 24 planes (20 single seats, 4 tandem seats), while "light-fighter" Regiments (J-7, J-10; maybe J-31 will also fall into that category) have 28 planes (24 single seats, 4 tandem seats).

PLANAF (Land based naval aviation) regiments have across the boards 24 planes (also 4 tandem variants per regiment).

On a tangent: High power continuous and pulse lasers can sometimes cause damage to optical devices, including IR sensors. Here is an article with analysis from actual experiments:

http://opticalengineering.spiedigitallibrary.org/mobile/article.aspx?articleid=2613334

Of course, not that kind of lasers from sweatshops to hurt cameras:

US agreed to sell 72 F-15 to Qatar, the exact model and year of arrival are still unknown:

After the Pentagon report about Chinese investment to Artifical Intellgence could be a serious threat to US security, more economic actions against China will be done this year.

To curb technology leaks by alleged Chinese University students, US is considering to issue green cards to them after the graduation, hoping to make them stay in US long enough to forget about returning:

MAST Asia 2017: Mitsui Unveils Japanese MLP Concept

quote:

At MAST Asia 2017 (Maritime Air Systems & Technologies), the naval defense exhibition currently held in Tokyo, Japanese company Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES) unveiled its Mobile Landing Platform (MLP) concept.

Mitsui's MLP is designed for large scale transportation of LCACs, MBTs, vehicles, cargo and equipment, with multi-mission and modular features. In addition to its aviation operations and amphibious capabilities, this MLP can act as an offshore base.

The design differs from the American MLP which comes in two variants: The Expeditionary Transfer Dock (ESD) variant for amphibious operations and the Expeditionary Sea Base (ESB) variant focusing on aircraft operation. Mitsui's design appers to combine both roles on a single design.

Unlike the ESB, there is no aviation hangar forward. There are four helicopter spots on the "almost" flat top. There is an elevator for stores and equipment next to spot #2. There is also a ramp allowing vehicles access between the two main decks.

What a disaster. Speedy recovery for all the ship crews. I wonder if that is still repairable?

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/us-navy-destroyer-collides-japanese-boat-205600471.html

quote:

Seven US Navy sailors are missing after their destroyer collided with a container ship near Japan, according to the Japanese Coast Guard.

At least three compartments of the USS Fitzgerald are reported to have flooded after the collision with the Philippine vessel ACX Crystal 56 miles southwest of Yokosuka.

Coast Guard official Takeshi Aikawa told Kyodo news agency that one Navy sailor had been evacuated by helicopter with a head injury but details of his or her condition are unknown.

Mr Aikawa said the US ship was not capable of moving by itself but that no damage or injuries had been reported with regards to the 29,060-tonne container ship and its crew.

The US 7th Fleet confirmed on Twitter that it was "working with the Japanese Coast Guard to conduct a medevac", adding that any other injuries among the crew were being assessed.

The Navy would only say it was still working to account for all personnel and could not confirm anyone was missing.

In a statement, the Navy said the USS Fitzgerald had "suffered damage on her starboard side above and below the waterline" in the accident on Friday evening UK time.

It added that the ship was operating under its own power, "although her propulsion is limited".

USS Dewey, medical assistance and two tugboats have been sent to help.

Footage on Japanese broadcaster NHK showed extensive damage to the mid-right side of the naval ship, which is an Arleigh Burke-class (Flight I) guided missile destroyer built in 1993.

Just hoping it's a seamanship issue and not an attack of some sort that the USN failed to detect - cyber or otherwise. Feel sorry for the Captain who will face inquires etc. The Captain was in their position because she/he is the best of the best. There is little margin for error in the Navy. God Speed.

Here's the recent video made by a German YouTuber, about an overview of US Navy & PLAN's comparison in 2014-2017 timeline. Despite many 'incorrect' claims (e.g. US military garrison in Singapore as he said which is wrong, but viewers forget US still had resupply access to the port), viewers are easily impressed by this report, and presuming the current Chinese Navy's is only as capable as replicate the same damage as Pearl Harbor-style preemptive strikes, or limited sea route protections.

The second ship will follow by end of the year.

And as a bonus; the prow module of the 5th 055 has apparently appeared.

Is anyone else surprised that the PLAN is already building hull 5 before hull 1 is in the water? They must be really confident in the design and the development status of it's sub-systems.

The new hull indeed make it kinda surprising that they have been rushing them so fast. On the other hand, the 055 was in the development since 2009, with steel cutting only beginning in 2014.

As for the subsystems, they are largely the upgraded variants of the ones used onboard the 052D (Type 346A AESA modernized to the Type 346B standard), as well as the 850mm large caliber VLS that were also used on the 052D.

The newest subsystem would be the integrated mast with its ESM and ECM panels and the brand new X-band AESA which saw no test onboard any operational warship before.
