'I know not with what weapons Pig War III will be fought, but Pig War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.' -Neil DeGrasse Tyson, probably. I've only recently got into this game, and I've decided to try my hand at (rudimentary) scenario design. I figured for my first scenario I would focus on a purely air-based one, and not faff about too much with sea or SAM shenanigans. I was inspired by hearing about Canada's procurement woes when it comes to replacing the Hornet, and I had the idea of testing the F-35 & Super Hornet, the two aircraft that seemed most likely to fill those roles, against their potential rivals directly. So, the background is more or less as follows: the Canadian Government, after careful consideration, instead of buying American goes with the Gripen, Rafale, or Typhoon as their choice instead. By 2019, the RCAF has begun to take delivery of the aircraft, and eager to show off their new planes, they propose an exercise with the Americans to put the aircraft through their paces. The Americans, for their part, are willing to use the exercise to train some of their pilots with a departure from the usual aggressor exercises. When plotting out where to host the exercise, someone notes that the 160th Anniversary of the Pig War, a bloodless border skirmish is coming up. Since there are several conveniently located US & Canadian Bases in the area, it is decided that the Second Pig War will commence on the anniversary of the first, depicting a hypothetical engagement over the San Juan Islands. The RCAF, based out of Comox, has at its disposal two 18-plane squadrons of their new fighters, a legacy squadron of Hornets for one last hurrah, and a support group of Cyclone helicopters (as well as a forward observer team on the islands). The US, based out of Whidbey Island, has essentially a Carrier Air Wing at its disposal, including 2 squadrons each of F-35s & Super Hornets, as well as a squadron of Hawkeyes and Growlers apiece. The Canadians are veteran pilots, since they're mainly showing off the planes for a domestic audience, while the USN are cadets - since in this scenario, the wing is a collection of Fleet Replacement Squadrons. The objective would primarily be to control the airspace over the island, as well as potentially disabling the various other installations in the region. However, I've run into a problem - namely while I've enjoyed my time with CMANO, I am not really that great at laying out the scenarios proper. I'm not sure whether the current setup is all that balanced. I have attached the 4 variants - the 'blank' scenario, and setups for the Rafale, Gripen & Typhoons. I've not put any missions in just yet. What do people think of the premise? Does anyone have advice for a first-time scenario developer?
