I'm starting to get really peeved about all the discrimination in this forum. Some of you think that just because I'm green and scaly that you have a license to abuse me. We've come a long way and that just isn't so anymore. Quit it.

I know: it's not easy being green!

Wonderful.

Except, of course, for the bird being chased.

We've got Cicadas. They're not the seventeen or the thirteen year broods, but we've got them. They're loud. I really like them, period. I love the sound of them in the background. Every cat I've had that was allowed outside loved them more, 'cause they would eat them. With their red beady eyes they look like servants of Lucifer, but I'm so glad to hear them.

They are cacophonous around here this time of year. I agree though-they're cool. Like crickets.

Takes one beady-eyed character to love another one ... just sayin' .

When I was a kid we had the 17 year cicadas hatch out one year. I looked for them all summer but never saw one. I'm sure the praying mantises ate well that year. We always had mantises for pest control.

We've found a few massive mantises around here. The biggest one we found last year was perched on the hummingbird feeder, awaiting the obvious. Yes, "it" is a thing. Amazing.

I have several around my house anymore. Crows hunt them mercilessly. So I started hunting crows ( I really hate those birds). Now I have hawks, and owls, in my neighborhood. It's a really pleasant thing to watch them

There's a big Coopers hawk that's been sitting in one of my bird baths cooling his heels. He just flew up on my picnic table. A neighbor came into the yard for a look. The hawk ignored him. She was too busy watching the hummingbirds. The cord from my camera is damaged so I can't post any pics til I get a replacement.

Oh, the pain. I'm watching a rabbit eat my milkweed plants. They've been eating pretty much everything I've been trying to grow from seed, but now milkweed! milkweed has latex coursing through it's veins. What self respecting rodent would eat that? I swear the Cooper's Hawks are conspiring for bribes.

Came across an idiom I'm sure I've encountered many times before, but this time I couldn't just let it pass. What does "high-powered lawyer" mean? I investigated and have discovered the answer.

So if you hire a rim-fire lawyer, and then decide to fire him, is that a rim-shot?
If you fire a high-powered lawyer, do you have to pick up the law firm's brass too?

So the hawk was back today. Spent over an hour in my back yard. When I first noticed she was in the birdbath again. Eventually she got out and was walking around. I took pics. When she was walking around I went out and refilled the bird bath as it was low, hoping she'd get back in. She could see me doing that and eventually she did get back and squat to cool her butt. She started vocalizing and I got some video of that. She was getting up on things too and when she was on the fence at least one car driving by slowed down for a look, then made a uey to come back.
